Just throwing out an idea of a region specific mod, much like the Asian mod also proposed. Several civs will overlap a bit between that and this one... roughly covering an area diagonally from Thailand to New Zealand. My expertise doesn't really cover south east asian history that much, but I've come up with a few civs, including leader names, city lists, and possibilities for uu's.

If you feel you know better than the lists I have here, please feel free to criticise.

Tribesman Yagan of the Nyungar (Civarmies Neanderthal leaderhead seems appropriate. Aborigines are NOT neanderthals - the leaderhead actually looks quiet human enough - but aborigines migrated to Australia 10,000 years ago, so there are probably some close ties in there).

Why not an Oceania/Polynesian Mod my friend?

Just add the Maori, Samoans, Hwaiians and Rapa Nuians to the list of civs. I could possibly put that toghether quickly. What kind of mod do you have in mind? Just a Oceania map with the civs(and leaderheads) in it, with the unique units or something? I don't think there are enough Oceanic units for a huge mod unfortunately

Heres a list of units I know of:

Koori: Crocadile Warrior(By Utahjazz)
Samoa: Samoan Clubman(In the works by Kinboat)
Hwaiians: Islander(Utahjazz's Polynesian Warrior)
Rapa Nuians: Matato’a(Utahjazz's Polynesian Spearman)
Moari: ?

Peacemaker Trigunani of the Palawa (while ideally will have her own leaderhead, may have to use R8XFT's Sojourner leaderhead in the interim).

Why not indeed? That's essentially what I'm thinking about... the only thinig is that a real map of Oceania would have loads of Ocean... which is why I'm thinking of limiting it to New Zealand in the East, and adding a bit of South East Asia for a bit of fun. I also thought of tweaking the map to make New Zealand a little larger to fit both Maori and New Zealand Civs on there.

I want to keep the map reasonably siezed, as larger maps slow things up a bit.

Maybe we could work the Easter Islanders in as Fijians or something?

Elder Douglas Nicholls of the Koori (leaderhead done by R8FXT)
Attributes: Religious and Expansionist
Unit: Recognising that there is a pikeman, it would be inappropriate for this civ in this mod. It was a fantasy crocodile warrior... there are no crocodiles anywhere near Koori territory. I'm still hoping for a boomerang warrior archer replacement.

This sounds great. Are you planing on making the mod?

BTW I noticed your avatar and played around with it a bit:

The first one is plain and the second has some lighting effects

I'd love to see this happen, so I'll do what I can... unfortunately, I don't have the programs or a good enough pc at present... I have to wait a couple of months. Thought I'd get planning underway. Might try and make a map at some stage. Hoping others might offer lists/ideas for other civs.

I guess their aint much interest in the Pacific... but here is a fourth aborigine tribe anyway, to fill the gap in north western Australia on my map (which is now finished - encompasses Indonesia, Australia, PNG, New Caledonia, Fiji and New Zealand).

Only tribe left to do is Indonesia/Java (haven't yet decided which) and perhaps a polynesian civ to chuck up in the top corner of the map.

Sounds like a good idea.

Just a couple of things.
With the Aboriginal tribes, why are some of the cites named after European settlements and not the native tribes?.
There are plenty of Tribes in WA to use instead of European settlements.
Check this site out. I used it for my Settling Aust scenario. It puts all the Aboriginal settlements in their exact locations. It should help you a bit.

The Maori civ should feature the towns of Taupiri and Ngruawahia, probably somewhere near the top due to their being the seats of the Maori King movement. Waikato should not be a city, it is a very large region. And, I do wonder, why did you make Te Kooti a science leader? I do recognise that it could be justified but he was first and foremost a guerrila warrior in my book. Otherwise, I'm impressed, especially considering that you're an Aussie.
The Pakeha civ is perfect.

@Sir Eric - Thanks for that site, I'll use it definitely. The main reason I used some European names was the lack of info I could find on local tribes.
Sometimes, however, I've doubled up with both the European name and local indigenous name (as in Tasmania) simply for the sake of lengthening the city lists. When I find time to redo these, I'll but all the European name cities down the bottom of the lists.

@Furius
Thanks for the cities info, will amend mistakes as suggested.
Regarding Te Kooti, as well as resistance leader I believe he was considered a prophet and founder of a church movement, and inventor of a 'cultural advancement' if you like. He could have gone to either camp, and as three military great leaders existed already, I thought he'd make a good balance. I'll change it if you think he must though...

No, don't change it. You do have a point, in that there are 3 military leaders already. And Te Kooti did invent Modern Trench warfare so a case could be made.
And, I must admit that, on passing it yesterday I discovered that I spelt one of the cities wrong. It is Ngaruawahia, not Ngruawahia. Very sorry about that.
