Getting Civ 4 Units into Civ 5

Deliverator, I'm trying to figure out how to accurately skin my own units. I'm wondering if something is wrong with me, my version of Blender or my computer. For example, your minuteman UV map looks like this:
civ5_minuteman_origin.jpg

But when I unwrap it, it looks like this:
civ5_minuteman_mine.jpg
(I moved the islands apart)

How did you get yours the way you did?

I managed to get a skin to display properly in game...once. And I couldn't repeat the results. If it's too much to explain, is there some resource I can go study?

EDIT: Nevah mind...I figured it out.

Thanks for great TUTORIAL.

but I have some problem. I have tried to bring this unit into civ5 in accordance with this tutorial several times.
but my converted unit can't grip a sword. And she is separated her skeleton.
Because I have no experience of modeling, I do not know what is wrong.

Please guide me. Or is this tutorial too advanced for me?

Hey Deliverator,
could I borrow your pictures? It would really be helpful. I did a translation of this great Tutorial for the German Civ Webring Forum, and as you know the screenshots are very important to make it all understandable. I wasn't able to send you a private message, so I post it here.

Greetings and thank you in anticipation! ;)

Yes, you can use the pictures. No problem. I assume everything posted here is public domain anyway. :)

Great Tutorial!

when I use your ibutho file it works fine, but when I try to do the same steps with a civ 4 unit, when I remove the vertex color, the unit doesn't go from black to texture, but stays black.

And the UV window is empty. What am I doing wrong??

have you assigned a UV/texture dds to the mesh?,....if not try this....in edit mode, select your entire mesh in the 3D window (A)....then, in your UV/image editor window, click image---> open --->navigate to the appropiate dds texture file and click "open image"....see if that works :goodjob:

Whenever I try to the Nif Scripts, it tells me to go and download Blender. I already have got blender... I've tried it with loads of different versions of Blender, can anyone get me some links for the working versions?
