GHANDI THIRSTS FOR BLOOD

Diety/Pangea/Standard/Standard

Average starting position, although I have a strong dislike for coastal starts.

Build order:

-Elephants
-More Elephants
-Spearman

Tech Order:

-Animal husbandry
-Wheel
-Luxury techs
-Mining/Bronze working
-Writing

Scouted surrounding area. Thought about trying to steal a worker from washington. Decided not to and to hope for peace until I am ready to invade, then I'll sell my gpt/luxuries and get them right back.

Unfortunately Washington has other plans and decides to DOW me 12 turns later

No real problem, I very rarely see warrior rushes ever work. At best they delay you collecting resources for a while. Which can be a problem if the AI follows it up with swordsmen/chariots/etc. No problem here though, his attack is repelled.

Hard built a couple of elephants and rush bought one with money I got from selling the marble. Sent them towards Washington, decided to kill some time taking on a barb encampment since he wasn't sending anything more at me.

Sold my GPT and spices for cash, bought an elephant, finished building another elephant, built a warrior, bought a spearman. Attack commences.

Started attacking Washington DC. Ghenghis DOW Washington at some point, probably killed a few units so I didn't encounter many initial units from Washington. Doesn't really matter though because 4-5 elephants make quick work of pretty much anything he could throw at me at this point.

The capital is mine! Although Washington thinks he is going to launch a counter attack. HAHAHAHHAH GHANDI LAUGHS AT YOUR PUNY WARRIORS AND SPEARMEN
Spoiler :

After beating back the counter attack Ghandi sets his sights on New York City. The GG that spawned earlier has arrived.

HAHA FOOLISH AMERICANS NEW YORK CITY WILL SOON BE MINE

Americans eliminated, Ghenghis declares war. Should be easy from here.

Conclusion: Like all strategies, there may be instances where it may not be the best course of action. This just provides an option. From this point I could repel the Mongols, then set up a 4th city to the south of Delhi and go vertical for a science/diplo victory since Ghandi isn't really too good for warmongering. This was more to just get out of a sub par/average starting position and gain some early momentum.

Gandhi Elephant Rush = one of the easiest domination wins in the game. Glad to see someone posting this, few people seem to realize how good this unit is early game.

They are annoying in multiplayer. I always build more spearmen than usual when i'm close to a human(and well known) Gandhi. You are right, few people realize this.

I'm not a nerd btw

Elephants are easily slain by melee units/other cavalry though. They do great damage, but they can't really soak much damage. :(

thats simply not true they survive a normal warrior attack with ease (spearman should be the same since the dont get the bonus anymore).

but later on, you can bring as normal for range units a blocking unit in front of them.

Like all strategies, it is situational. I've found the biggest threat is not spearmen, but horsemen, especially companion cavalry. Which is funny considered the companion cavalry were only stopped by indian war elephants.

Didn't notice that. Been a while i got attacked by them. Months ago. I will build horsemen then if a similar threat happens. Humans rarely pick Ghandi in mp.

This thread inspired me to my latest Immortal game as India. I didn't do a rush, but I used the elephants for early defense against the AI onslaught. It worked extremely well combined with a couple of warriors/swords!

So thank you for this thread, Kevster :)

More people need to see it and use them elephants!

Really? I've always used the UA for population happiness to build a huge successful puppet empire. Granted I usually only play on king, but the results usually are exceptionally good.

I agree, India is good for warmongering. They are even better for warmongering on higher difficulties, because the AI cities are bigger there. As India you can conquer more cities before you have to start razing or getting colosseums/luxuries/etc. Therefore you are less likely to lose your momentum during the conquest.

Of course, other civs have UAs that are better for warmongering, but still.. there are far worse civs to use for this purpose than India.

I might be wrong I just kind of assumed that they weren't decent for warmongering.
