What amazes me about sannabas's date was that I've only beaten it once...

on warlord.

with 5 sgl's.

I had another warlord game where I would have done better than that, but I forgot that Internet gives you free research labs and ended up with a domination win. Yeah - I'm trying for the best date ever in a 20K game. To do it without 7 SGL's probably requires ironworks (I was 1 tile from ironworks in my capitol in that game, too), and perhaps regent level, so the AI can help with research some.

I am novice in 20k, but I dont think ironworks will help:
by the time You get RR most of the good wonders are built, and there shoudn't be too many turns to go. So any increase in cpt can save You a turn or two (that was wasted in building IW).
OTOH, the cheap early optional wonders (SoZ, HE) can really make a difference, as well as a few (6) cows.

PS. On higer levels U get more research help from the AI -- @SID they're willing to run Your towns too

well, iron works has 2 CP, anyway. And I would (hopefully) rush it with an MGL.

But the way I play, I run for shakespeares, then beeline as fast as I can for steam - this is where the AI can help, by maybe researching invention or gunpowder for you.

To get a really good 20K score, you really need an SGL for Pyramids - both for culture and to grow your civ, since you don't have time to build a granary.
