GK1- The Wrath of Khan!!

Pre-flight – Read GK’s write up again. Cut and paste it into Word so I can refer to it.

Babylon is getting huge. So are the Zulus. MM Coast and convert an irrigated tile to mined with the fortified slaves. We still have 4 extra food. We’re at 54 uncorrupted shields and we could get to 56. Ideally, we should be at 60 spt. Berlin and Ivory’s production have been hurried. MM those two cities for food.

I think it’s funny Gengis started building the Military Academy. :D Wasn’t it Gengis that said he’d give anyone who built an hard time. :spank: Good think you changed your mind.

Diplo check – No one is ahead of us in tech. We have Hammy, Shaka, and X-man at war with Gandhi, with the first two in an alliance. Sounds like good head work.

For those that didn’t know, Comrade Gandhi is ruling the Communist State of India with an iron fist.

IBT – A Russian Clad sinks our Clad. A force of 5 Cossacks set up on the hill outside Coastville.
Pollution hits Dyeburg.
Berlin: library=> Univ.
Ivory: Collisseum=> Cav
Coast: Univ=> Destroyer.

1. 1655 AD – Outside Coastville: Pull all available arty into twon and bombard the Cossacks down. Aren’t rails great! I can’t believe we’re going to play a game where they aren’t allowed.
4/4 Cav kills 3/4 Cossack (no loss)
4/5 Cav kills 3/4 Cossack (redlined)
5/5 Cav kills 3/4 Cossack (-2hp)
5/5 Cav kills 2/4 Cossack (no loss)
4/4 Cav kills 1/4 Cossack (-1hp)

Bombard Smolensk, and move cavs into position per Operation Gengis game plan.

MM cities for optimal growth. On the turn before a city grows, you can maximize food and still get the build in time.

IBT – Hammy demands 100G & TM. I check with the military dude, and he says we are weak. I wonder if Hammy would break our alliance with Gandhi. I decide not to chance it and give in to the creep.

A Cossack kills a cav.
Vine: Arty=> Cav
Dyes: Univ=> Cav

2. 1660 AD – Bombard Smolensk. Attack a Russian Clad with our destroyer and our destroyer loses! :mad:
@ Smolensk: 13/13 Army kills 1/3 Inf. (-8hp and one promotion)
5/5 Cav kills 1/3 Rifle (-2hp)
4/4 cav kills 1/3 rifle (-1hp) Smolensk razed.
3 slaves

4/4 cav kills 1/4 cossack (no loss)
5/5* cav kills 1/3 rifle (-1hp)

IBT – Watch about five Cossacks run past our infantry stack outside Uralsk.
Looks like they’re heading towards our oil colony.
Berlin: Univ=>Cav
Ivory: Cav=> Univ.

3. 1665 AD - Bombard and kill the five Cossack with the loss of a single hp on our cavs.

Russia finally is in anarchy!! No one is researching anything. The Babs own two Indian cities. Cathy will now give us a city for peace.

Because I would have to hire three clowns to keep the peace. I bump the lux to 10%.

IBT – Three Cossacks come to the west of Uralsk towards our oil colony.
Coast: Destroyer=> Coliseum
Vine: Cav=> Cav
Dyes: Cav=> Cav

4. 1670 AD – We win a naval battle the way it is supposed to go. Our Destroyer sinks a Russian clad without loss.
It looks like the three Cossacks might have been heading towards Ivory. Bomabard them to red then kill them

We don’t have any spies. Plan a spy in Zimbabwe for 96G. Since Russia is still in Anrchy, plant a spy there for 80G. I won’t even bother with India. Russia is down to 6 cossacks. Zulu have 71 Infantrymen.

Hammy & Shaka have flight. Buy it from Shaka for 3102G & WM.

Shift our cav builds to bombers. Some bombers on a carrier can kick some butt.

IBT – Two Russian clads bombard our destroyer and a third one attacks but sinks.
Dopey Indians sends a rifle/settler pair our way.
Vine: Bomber=> Bomber
Ivory: Univ=> Bomber

5. 1675 AD – Set up for Sverdlovsk to fall next turn.
Capture two Indians slaves by killing the rifle.

IBT – Russian Clads pillage a railroad.
Vine: Bomber=> Cav
Two pollutions.

6. 1680 AD - @ Sverdlovsk: Bombard two defenders to red.
14/14 Army kills 1/3 Infantry (no loss)
14/14 Army kills 1/3 rifle (-2 hp) City is razed. Two slaves.

Set up to attack Kazan.

IBT – Berlin: Bomber=> Cav (Can now produce a cav every turn)
Ivory: Bomber=> Cav
Dyes: Bomber=> Cav
Coast: Collisseum=> Destroyer

7. 1685 AD – Sink a Russian Clad
Kazan’s sole defender is redlined and killed without loss. City razed.
Capture two slaves on the outskirts.

Set up to attack Yakutsk next turn.
Cathy will now give two cities for peace. My thought here is that we get peace then raze the cities. If she gives five or six it would be worth it.

Chop the forest at Dyeburg and build a mine so we get an extra food from that tile.

IBT – The wounded Russian fleet runs for cover.
Berlin, Vine: cav=> Cav

8. 1690 AD - @ Yakutsk arty only gets two hits on units although four citizens are killed. We wait for next turn.
Set up to attack Volagda next turn.

IBT – Three Cossacks land on a hill outside Dyeburg.
Berlin, Ivory, Dyes: Cav=> Cav
Coast: Destroyer=> Destroyer

9. 1695 AD – Zulus have captured two Indian cities.
Sink another Russian Clad.

@ Yakutsk: Three inf defenders injured.
13/14 Army kills 2/2 Inf (-5 hp)
8/14 Army kills 2/3 Inf (-3hp)
4/4 cav killed by 4/4 cossack (redlined)
4/4 cav kills 1/3 inf (no loss)
5/5 cav kills 1/4 cossack (no loss)
City razed, three ironclads are sunk. Two slaves captured.

@ Vologda: Lone infantry defender redlined then killed by cav with no loss. Two slaves.

@ Dyeburg: Bombers red or yellow line the three Cossacks.
4/4 cav kills 2/4 Cossack (-1hp)
4/4 cav kills 1/4 cossack (redlined)
4/4 cav kills ¼ Cossack (-2hp)

@Uralsk: This might be too hard. 4/4 cav kills 3/3 inf (redlined)
5/5* cav killed by 4/4 cossack (redlined)
4/4 cav kills 1/4 cossack. (no loss) City is razed. Three slaves.

Cathy is now willing to give two cities for peace. But you have 14 cities. You must give more. Comrade Gandhi still has 14 cities.

Make sure to pillage the oil and incense tiles near the former Yakutsk site.

Diplo check shows that no one has Mass Production. I bump the slider up to 70% to get it 14 turns with +32 gpt. We have the cash to buy it right now and this will just make it cheaper. Might be :smoke: but we’ve got to start self-researching soon. Two more techs and we’re in the modern age. Plus Panzers mean a GA for us. A modern age GA. What a concept.

IBT – In an amazing move, Zulu sign the Russians into the Indian war on our side :D.
The dogpile is complete.
Berlin, Vine: cav=> cav

10. 1700 AD – Maneuvering.

After action report: Cathy is slowing down, and Indian is gassed. We now have a strong army compared to Russia.

I am attaching some screen shots on what I think might be a good campaign path. On the western portion of the Russian front, the two forces from Vologda and Uralsk need to join up. Dnepropetrovsk is a good next target. Using the Gengis approach I’ve move the artillery within two tiles and kept the force together. Then come bombard time, I move a cav to one tile to provide bomb damage assessment (BDA), and launch the assault if the artillery provides good damage.

The Eastern force can strike Rostov next turn. A proposed campaign for the eastern force is in the screen shot. They should be able to join up near Moscow.

There are several units healing in Dyeburg, including our Army. The western force is a bit light right now.

Cathy can probably be wiped out in the next twenty turns or so. Her production is going to be severely hampered soon. We just about have our foot on her neck. I wouldn’t let her up.

Gandhi will soon be in his death throes. Another reason not to sign a treaty with Cathy. We need to go back and find out who we go to war with first on the other continent. If it is Babylon or Zululand, we will have our work cut out for us on our home continent, and we will need to start preparing. The home defensive is a little light right now.

The cities are starting to crank. Berlin can produce a cav every turn, everything else can produce one every other turn. We have a slight WW problem, and I’m running lux at 10%. The cities are getting close to max population. When they do we will want to mine as much irrigation until we get to zero growth.

I think Brother Bede is up next. That’s two SGs you’re following me in. Hopefully, you aren’t getting tired of it yet.

I won't feel bad. Writing down what happens probably doubles the length of time to play a set of turns. I started yesterday about 1 PM, and finished at 9 PM minus four hours of eating dinner with the in-laws. So I spent about four hours on the game. Figure two hours of that was writing down what happened. That will probably be the last time I do a complete report in this game. In the future, it will probably be "razed city A with loss of two units, two slaves captured."

Another excellent set of turns by our Ace!

Now for the color comentary/very unnessasary advice.:lol:

Tis true, but I asure you I left a literal palm print on my forehead the next turn.

Pull all available arty into twon and bombard the Cossacks down. Aren’t rails great! I can’t believe we’re going to play a game where they aren’t allowed.
Rails shmails, I could live without irragation, mines and rails, but I'd kill someone for a road right about now.

IBT – Hammy demands 100G & TM. I check with the military dude, and he says we are weak. I wonder if Hammy would break our alliance with Gandhi. I decide not to chance it and give in to the creep.
Another very good move, Hammy has been trying to weasel out of his gpt payments to us for a while now. I'm 75% sure, he would have declared war.

Russia finally is in anarchy!! Cathy will now give us a city for peace. The Babs own two Indian cities....... 1695 AD – Zulus have captured two Indian cities.
FINALLY!! I've been waiting for that since my 5th turn. Hammy & Shaka taking a couple cities each is also excellent news: with the AIs mental block on naval invasions, it shows what a sorry state Ghandi is in right now.

Zulu have 71 Infantrymen.
:eek::eek: Ummm......... sounds like a job for tanks.

Some bombers on a carrier can kick some butt.
Don't forget that bombers don't have leathal bombardment.

Diplo check shows that no one has Mass Production. I bump the slider up to 70% to get it 14 turns with +32 gpt. We have the cash to buy it right now and this will just make it cheaper. Good move as well, we might not pull it off but we have to at least test the water.

I'm not positive one way or another, but I thought we already had our GA from wonders. Hmmm, at least it will be a very nice surprise for me if it kicks in.

I am attaching some screen shots on what I think might be a good campaign path.
:thumbsup: Gotta love screen shots!!

There are several units healing in Dyeburg, including our Army. The western force is a bit light right now. Cathy can probably be wiped out in the next twenty turns or so. Her production is going to be severely hampered soon. We just about have our foot on her neck. I wouldn’t let her up.
Don't sweat us being light on troops, with our arty Cathy needs more the RNG luck to save her.

Once again I agree totally, we should either wipe her out totally or take her down to 1 city if she manages to get some techs we don't have. She's on life support now, why prolong her suffering?

We need to go back and find out who we go to war with first on the other continent. If it is Babylon or Zululand, we will have our work cut out for us on our home continent, and we will need to start preparing. The home defensive is a little light right now.
Bad news........ Shaka, Hammy, then Xerxes.:( Why couldn't it be the other way around?

Truthfully, I'm not to worried about any invasion fleet that Shaka would send, about 10 Infs can fend off whatever he'll send over. I'm slightly worried about fending off his navy & airforce so they don't bomb our improvements out of existance, but then again we need something for our slaves to do. I'm absolutly petrified at the thought of trying to invade that continent.

We have a slight WW problem, and I’m running lux at 10%.
I wouldn't sweat that either, once Cathy's taken out it will back to fireworks & Ferraris for everyone.

Question: Did you renogotiate the Bab lux trade? If not some deals will need to be renogotiated in our favor.

I'd also suggest sending out 2 Inf/Cav pairs to clean up those loose roads if you can spare them.

Again, great turns & an excellent write up!

Hmm, I'm suddenly sencing alterior motives to the unusually long write up.:lol:

Say it ain't so!! Long writeups are a blast, why do you think it takes me 4 days to play 10 turns each time.;)

*shrug*

:wallbash: Didn't renogotiate.

Cleaning up some of the roads would be a good thing. We also need to make sure we pillage all resources when we kill a town. I think I neglected to pillage a saltpeter over by India.

At least you didn't build the MA.

Dispatches from the front tonight.

Wow! Must be having rough times in the monestary. Are those novices giving you trouble Brother Bede?!! Feel free to take out your frustrations on the Russians. :D

One dam thing after another, me dear
Review the excellent dispatches and General Staff commentary.

[/b]General Order 1:[/b]
The two forces from Vologda and Uralsk will join up on hill north of Dnepropetrovsk then move to forest for initial bombardment and cavalry raids.

[/b]General Order 2:[/b]
All units NE of Rostov move into position for bombardment and cavalry raids.

[/b]General Order 3:[/b]
Luftwaffe will concentrate bombing raids on Moscow's road and rail connections. The Russian trade network must be disrupted as the Zulu are supporting our enemy in Moscow.

The debate among the advisors produces the consensus that can meet our objectives. Several factors are in our favor: 1) The Exchequer is in excellent shape; 2) Our cities are very productive of both goods and food so we can reduce the luxury tax, and if the citizens become discontented can reassign them to research, tax collection or entertainment as needed without affecting manufacturing or agriculture; 3) There are trade opportunities for luxury goods if the citizenry need pacification to maintain their productivity.

T1 1705AD
The planting of a spy in Delhi (96g) reveals that the Indian Army is roughly equivalent to ours defensively but has no offensive force. They do have one Army.
The Russians come crawling: Catherine wants most of our worker force for a Peace Treaty Nyets to you She will offer either Magnitogorsk, Lahore, Tbilisi, Pune, Astrakhan, Dnepropetrovsk, or New Jaipur. No combination of the offered cities is acceptable. I continue negotiations to discover our next targets: Kiev, Vladivostok, Krasnoyarsk and St Petersburg elicit the strongest negative responses. The General Staff orders a report from the Cartographers in order to understand the importance of those cities

The Ministry of Trade appears at the Chancellery and asks: Did you renogotiate the Bab lux trade? Deals can be re-negotiated in our favor. Make it so, Minister!

The Minister reports back that the Babylonians are bankrupt but have gems to offer. The Minister of the Interior comments that we don't need them yet. Seeking to further isolate Russia the Trade Delegation suggests to Babylon an embargo against the Russians Hammi wants one of our 4 dyes so it's a deal Looking to the Zulu to join the embargo is fruitless now, but may not be soon.

A barbarian camp appears in the western badlands. The newly built cavalry are dispatched for further training and possible promotion. The camp is burned and we collect 25g but the cavalry fail the qualification test for promotion

Our slave horde is dispatched to trim the terrain around Moscow and build rails in the SW
The workers railing south of Dyeburg discover a lonely Russian settler so a cavalryman is dispatched to capture two more slaves Another Russian worker is captured south of Dyeburg. Two Infantry and cavalry pairs move out from Dyeburg to begin the PIllaging campaign in Russia

[/b]General Order 3:[/b]
The Luftwaffe in Dyeburg commences its campaign but can only reach just over the Russian border

[/b]General Order 1:[/b]
Battlegrup1 achieves the forest objective ahead of schedule. Battlegrup2 misreads its orders and the artillery heads west (rotten typists in the Ministry) Two infantry units move to cover the artillery, the remainder of BG2 reaches the forest also

[/b]General Order 2:[/b]
BG3 (Rostov) advances with no opposition. Emboldened cavalry commanders exceed their orders and advance beyond infantry coverage to destroy rails and roads.

T2 1710AD

The Minister of the Interior was wrong again The population of Berlin riots :spank: A quick tour through the Reich reveals other potential hotspots so a bunch of clowns are hired temporarily

First round of shelling wounds regular (-1hp), reveals a draftee regiment
Second round kills citizens and severely wounds the conscript defender (redlined)
Third round cripples the vet regiment and destroys the harbor
General Staff orders BG3 to hold hard and allow the shelling to reduce the population below 6 and the destroyer to move out of artillery range

T3 1715
Berlin pacifies and finishes its airport and starts a bomber. Ivoryopolis and Dyeburg finish airports and start bombers. Coastville finishes destroyer, starts another

Babylon sends a warrior to checkout our silks colonies

[/b]Seige of Rostov[/b]
Artillery bombardment wounds reg infantry defender, no other is revealed though there is at least one cossack in there Elite cav attempts a raid and wipes out the defense revealing the healthy Cossack An infantry regiment moves forward to block the road out of Dnepropetrovsk and second and third cavs destroy the connection to the rubber north of the city The raid eliminates Catherine's rubber supply (Decondomized, as it were)

[/b]Seige of Rostov[/b]
Destroyer moves in to shell and observe. Shelling kills citizens.
Artillery barrage kills citizens and severely wounds (redlines) the infantry defenders, revealing a longbow. With the city down to 3 and the defense crippled the cavalry moves to the attack and six charges later the city is burned and we capture another(!) slave with minor casualties but no promotions

The Luftwaffe bombs some more roads and the pillaging teams move toward Moscow

The Zulu deals with Russia have ended. He wants our WM and 325g for embargo. A small price to pay.

Russia is still a Republic and will offer Magnitigorsk, Astrakhan and New Jaipur for a Peace Treaty. Not there yet as she still has twelve cities left

T4 1720AD
Hammi calls and wants to renegotiate the Silks (ours) for Spices and 8gpt deal I counter with Ivory for Spices and 5gpt and he allows as how that's acceptable I offer him Silks for Gems and another 5gpt and that's good too

Vineland finishes its airport and trains an aircrew

BG3 begins to move west and the pillaging teams move into position around Moscow and Sevastopol

[/b]Seige of Dnepropetrovsk[/b]

The destroyer build at Coastville is switched to the MilAcad to accumulate shields for an Aircraft Carrier (MassProd due in 3) which will be ready just in time to load the bombers building in Berlin, Ivoryopolis, and Dyeburg.

Hammi bought MassProd from Shaka for chump change

The lux buys from Hammi and the consecutive victories let the Deparment of the Interior reduce lux tax to 0 and the Treasury goes back into the black

Catherine's resistance is hardening as she now will offer only one city to conclude a Peace Treaty (down 2 from the last round)

Gandhi is holding up well and is apparently gaining a little on the Russians

Babylon has reverted to a Republic so maybe it is time to plant a spy. Decide against it as I don't want to trigger war yet. Let's see what he does first

Choose an espionage mission against Russia instead to expose her spy. It fails but our spy is easily replaced

As Pune appears to be Russia' s only source of saltpeter a couple of cavalry regiments detach to disconnect the city

T7 1735

A Cossack appears and captures a couple of slaves but a bombing run from Dyeburg and a cavalryman take him off the count and the workers are reclaimed A barbarian appears out of the fog in the west and kills a couple of Russian slaves It seems they have reopened for business in the wasteland south of the oil colony. Staple's Basher and Infantry are sent to take out the camp
