GK2- The Training Day Experiment

i think what Bede is suggesting this my fellow teamates:

Sell a tech to them for cash. not GPT, but CASH. Quick rush some MW in corrupt cities that we're not using for Infra build. This should be about 5-10 cities, where we can quick rush some fast movers, (knights now?) and we can use them to help.

I'm going to sugget doing this. Pull all MWs out of surrounding towns, besides Pasargadae, and launch a massive assult on their capitol at once. We don't have to worry about them coming after us... with the SoD we'll have on their doorstep, they won't leave their town. we can starve them down, but with that many units we won't need to. even if Persia can mantain a 4:1 kill ratio, we'll still take thier capitol. We can then sue for peace, claim Susa, and ait the 20 to wipe them out like we did Japan. Their capitol will be a tiny little speck in the middle of the jungle, so it won't matter.

Besides they are GASSED. They won't try an assult, unless things have changed more in C3C then I realize.... but this is Civ3 vin, so my thinking should be sound.

Edit: Great, first post... I'm never gonna hear the end of it now.:p

Close, but no cigar.

Elizabeth Offers 87 gold and 28 gpt for chivalry
Joan can pony up 41 gold and 11 gpt for it
Kathy offers 72 gold and 3 gold per turn for chiv
We can get 28 gold from Biz for Rep or Feud
Plus we get WM all the way around.

Turn down Science to 50% which we still get Theology in 2 turn

Which brings us to 426 gold and +111 gpt
With some minor MM'ing we can get the gpt up to 115gpt

If we wanted to wait 3 turns for Theology we could get 210gpt (2 Knights per turn)

We could upgrade 5 MW's to Knights preturn. And 2 every turn there after. I would suggest not attacking Arabella untill after Persepolis has fallen. I would also think about razing the city unless it has a needed wonder in it. Our flip probabilities are pretty big. Another thing of note: There is a lone Persian warrior wandering around the ex-japanese lands. We have one unguarded city over there and he will prolly pillage things unless taken care of.

If this is correct I feel pretty thick headed...If this is not right I may change my nick to Block head. :D

Hmmm.... not sure about this. It's not like 18 MWs are a small force. Just today I took a capital in a Monarch game (which I'm kicking butt on, thank you all!) with 3 MWs and 6 catapults. There were 6 spears and an archer defending. Actually, I think I also had a knight or 2... But my point is, we shoudl have plenty of units to take Persepolis. Of course, I guess it depends on how many you're willing to lose.

As far as the gold, the simplest (which I think Bede is going for) thing to do is to upgrade MWs to knights after rush-building a 'rax in persian territory. All except the elites.

Flip risk is minimal, I think. Even if it does, it won't have enough defenders to pose a threat.

Crap, now the "pull everything out of Tarsus" gambit has been replaced by something that is

1. intelligent
2. sound
3. more likely to work and work well
4. something I wish I'd thought of first

This is exactly the sort of thing where I get to learn how to think conventionally - it's a good reminder that sometimes the best ideas are right inside the box ;)

How many upgrades do y'all think we'll need? I doubt it'll take 18 knights to take Persepolis. Three? Six? Nine? Something in there, fewer if we want to throw catapults at the problem as well. No sense in throwing money into upgrades we don't really need.

Of course, we don't yet yet if this is what Bede had in mind.

On another topic, what is our research path? We'll get theology in 2.

As my old man used to say: "That's the ticket".

It will take every knight you can muster to take Persepolis.

Suggestion: pull every mountie you have into Susa for upgrade. Do whatever you need to to raise the cash to upgrade.

When the capitol is in your hands the "flip risk" in the other towns diminishes and a smaller proportion of the captured populace becomes resistors.

Go for the throat! The rest of Persia will fall into your hands like an overripe persimmon.

Your choices are:

Education:to kill the GL and head towards Music theory for Bach's or Banking and Astomony

or behind door #2

Printing Press: for the beeline to Democracy and other deadend techs

and last but not least door #3 has

Engineering: a nothing tech (except for Arbor Day enthusiasts) which can lead to Invention and Gunpowder.

Yeah!!! do I get a

for figuring it out?

I don't think engineering is a useless tech. Don't forget the "bridge building" effect. Not wasting a move crossing rivers can be a HUGE bonus.

I like going the economics route. Build banks, Wall Street and Smith's Trading Co. Money makes the Civ go 'round.

Scarcasm..... Engineering would be very nice to heve right now for getting troops moved to the front. That being said by the time we get to engineering/invention/gunpowder our fighting will be over. So IMO it is not the most important branch to follow.

I to think that the Econ is the way to go.

BTW we will be changing governments soon yes? Our GA can't have more than 4 or 5 turns left on it.

I have new found respect for Republic. In JumpmasterB we are using it as our gov't even though we are going for a domination/conquest win. I have learned just as much in that as I have here. Although I must admit that this is WAY more indepth.

And we do need to fulfill the varient rule of each goverment type. As soon as the GA ends, we should revolt and reap the benfits of a lower corruption rate. Then when we go to war with the AI over on the other side of the world, switch to Commies, then when we go for our space race at the end bring it home with Demo.

Troops to the front, eh? Workers have to plow through the river? Remember, every turn saved in worker moves is a turn earned.

THAT being said, I don't think engineering is a priority either.

Amazing SG, I wish I came back to C3C a couple monthes earlier. 104 pages.... Still some 60 to bridge the gap.

@Bede: really good socratic work there

@Sir Bugsy, Bede: Someone has already mentioned Smith's...and we're at the stage of the game with all the nifty wonders. With all due respect to Ision, I think it's time to let these guys build a wonder.... and teach 'em how to pre-build stuff.

@Coletite: Are you comfortable with the current situation?

@Sir Bugsy, Bede: Are we ready to turn Coletite loose?

Coletite is turned lose.

Let's build some wonders brick by brick. Let's not use any leaders though. We can use a leader for an army and we can learn some more stuff there.

In C3C, that's the only way you can do it (unless someone has SGLs active which isn't very common these days... OK in RW2 we have them) Consider it practice for C3C. :D

With prebuilds and timing your reserch you can build alot of Wonders brick by brick, even on emporer level (usually not the AA ones though).
