GK2- The Training Day Experiment

We could play it two ways. We could have instructors play and say what and why they did something, or the way we started it.

I'm not really interested in doing instruction on this one... just a clean cut SG to finish it off. I just don't have time time that will be required.:(

What about forming a few small teams consisting of 1 instructor, 1 "current" player, and 2 or 3 "new" players. Then we could have each team pursue a different victory condition and play it as a regular SG.

I think we should shot for Conquest (teach about palying around te dom limit), Space, and 100K as the victory condition. I think we're to late to try for 20K and diplo would be too easy.

I love DJMGator's idea. As a fairly new (six months or so on-and-off) player, my game usually bogs down somewhere in the late MA, and most of the great instructive stuff on this site focuses on early game. I think it would be a fantastic resource to have this Training Game thread take things all the way through to end-game play.

I indicated interest in participating earlier, and that still stands...I just need to figure out how to get my brother in NY to cough up my vanilla CD. If you do divide teams according to victory conditions though, I happen to suck at war (just ask Bede :crazyeye: ) so take that for what it is worth in assigning me.

To continue in the spirit of this thread, a goal of teaching/learning both current a future players, I think a space race might be the best choice. Push the expansion to the domination limit and manipulate the AI to shorten the research cycle to the minimum. Valuable discussions regarding the use of TOE and the scientific AI free tech would provide future players with new ways to improve their games.

I've found that 100K games generally follow the same path (settle new city, rush cultural improvement, rinse & repeat) and I agree diplomatic are too easliy manipulated. Winning via either military option while easy to accomplish wouldn't really add any new lessons to the thread.

I'd be happy to play, tutor or just contribute more thoughts & ideas to this thread, so just let me know what hat I should plan to wear and I'll be ready whenever the game resumes.

I'm really busy with RL this time of year, but I'll dig out my vanilla disk anyway. I'll keep monitoring and if I do have time I'll chime in.

I'm really happy that this game has a chance to finish.

denyd's notion is a good one. As I can stand to learn from the the Master of the Space Race how best to pull that one off.

So, How about it? Mistfit can start us off to space...

Sounds like a plan :)

Off to the stars

Friday before noon to late? If it is, someone else can pick it up before.

(Back to the last 10-15 pages to remember where we are at in this one :hmm: )

I'll try to keep the post as detailed as possible but no where near what we were doing at the begining of the game

One year? This is almost as bad as that Sul5b game. Why don't we set up the roster as people step up. We may even want to play an open roster.

Here's the idea. Anyone can play, you just must be ready to play in the next 24 hours. By anyone, I don't want to see any vets stepping in. If you're playing emperor or above, let a less experienced guy play. This rule doesn't count for folks like Misfit who are already on the roster.

When you play we want as much detail as possible about why you are doing things. A great example has been the recent write ups over in the Sid Vicious game. The player will need to focus on why they did something, what the overall contribution to the overall strategy the decision did for us.

Then we will wait a manditory 24 hours while the entire world evaluates the turn set. The 24 hours could be expanded to 48 hours if a critical decision is made or a new strategy is being developed. Let's make Gator, Bede, Denyd or myself the only ones who can invoke a 48 hour discussion hold. Rinse & repeat.

What does everyone think about that? By being open we can keep the game moving, new players can step in and try their hand.

Just make sure everybody understands the desired outcome: fast near domination leading to a Space Race victory.

Good goal and nice idea on the newbie pickup and play mode.

I'll start tracking this and toss in my 10 cents whenever it's appropriate.
