GK2- The Training Day Experiment

You gave up a city? An Industrial Age, full fledged CITY?! That's insanity! INSANITY! But I guess it worked, so good thinking.;)
Now that you've spoiled it, I'll go you one better. It had a market, a factory, a coal plant, a courthouse.... and some other stuff, IIRC. And it was RCP5 from the AI capitol. It was spitting out Infantry at a 2 or 3 turn rate even for us.

By the way, if you guys like running over the AI with ... "several" modern armor, I posted the "pre-slugfest save" for Mistfit's benefit in my after action review. You're all welcome to download it and run over Russia.

Has anyone found a way of getting past that annoying pop-up that covers half of Bede's post? Google pop-up blocker doen't seem to work.

Great thread BTW guys, I check it most days and it's really improved my game.

Team Bugs should be done by the weekend. I'll check it out as soon as I can. Sounds very interesting.

I initailly mentioned it half kiddingly and then began to expand on the idea as real possibility and the expertise of Scout, GK, Tallanas, and Northern Pike made it happen. This was a bunch of fun. I suggest it to everyone. (SGOTM -- not giving away cities)

Edit: Wow..almost 27 hours since a post in this thread. With GK Missing, Scout with his JumpMasters, and Bugsy trying to finish SGOTM this one's been dragging a bit.

Wow we are about to fall off the 1st page...well I can't let that happen.
Well let's see... GJ posted his homework assignment...

Don't interpret my lack of posting as a lack of interest. I'm still here. When I've got something to add, I'll add it. ;)

Heh, I'm not done... I've still got to think about improvement plans for the cities. Sooner or later and hopefully sooner :)

I'm waiting for the go ahead to play my 10.:) Everything you have in the homework assignment is going to be in my preflight check.;)

Well to start on your questions:

1.) What would you do to finish the Zulu? How to pursue campaign? MW?

Ok we have a few healthy swords left in Zulu lands. The majority of them are around the city of Bampedi. By the looks of things the city should fall next turn. The galley to the south should be unloaded immediately and the galley sent back to the mainland for reinforcement ferrying. Once the two other galleys that are being built on the mainland are done they to should go to ferrying troops.
After the troops have taken Bampedi the troops should wait for reinforcements to move out to take the last couple of cities. Or guard our workers around the Ex-Japanese lands against attack. (note these workers have spent enough time working on corrupt towns. either get them in a city so they arn't taken or ship em back to the mainland.)

Bapedi should fall next turn it looks as if there is only one defender in there unless there are more than one wounded units.
Yes MW's should be sent to the Zulu land woth the terrain being so poorly improved we need all the speed we can get. I would change all of the builds in the mainland from swords to MW's for Zulu
Once 4-6 MW's show up, advance on the last two cities and the western Deserts will be ours.

I'll work on the City questions tomorrow.

I *believe* that defender is the only one in Bapedi. I think all my losses were outright. I'll check the turnlog... I remember thinking Bapedi was doomed, though.

Edit: I had three fights in Bapedi, won two, and lost one to the spearman you see guarding the town in the 190 AD save. So unless there's a weak warrior in there, I suspect Bapedi has only one defender.

How does the game determine which defender to put in view? Has someone done a study of this?

I believe it was a 2 or 3 hp Zulu warrior IIRC.
The game will always show the strongest defensive unit in the stack on top. Note: that ZW will be fully healed next turn. It dosent seem to matter if the AI have Rax or not in the city they always seem to get full HP the next turn.

IIRC, a unit fortified in a city will get 2hp back without a barracks. So a redlined regular or 2/4 vet will come back to full strength next turn. I've seen instances of 3/4 defenders on the next turn. Rarely, but I have seen it.

Well at least you guys have learned about superior force. At the most you will need two MWs over in Zululand. I wouldn't switch any cities to military, you guys have the strongest military by far. Start building up your infrastructure.

Hi. I've been following (I guess the term is lurking) you guys since you started. I am so new to this that I still cannot remember the names of the levels. Suffice it to say that I was getting my lunch handed to me on the second level. After reading your thread, I have had two wins at the third level!! One was conquest (or is it domination?) (the one where you get a certain percentage of territory) and the other was a spaceship launch. Thanks a lot for all of your great instruction. I will admit my wins were sloppy but still so much better than my earlier games. And just in case this ends up the first post on a new page...a special thanks to Alerum.

@Indigotwo: Welcome to CivFanatics! :thumbsup:

Congratulations on the wins. IMO, it's better to "win ugly" than lose pretty. ;) Domination is the one that involves 2/3 of the world's land and 2/3 of its population. Levels: Chieftain>Warlord>Regent

I'm sure Alerum appreciates you giving him his due.

Your welcome Indigotwo... for what I'm not quiet sure.;) Welcome to CFC... hope it doesn't stay at post 1 for much longer though.

Hey guys, sorry for not posting in a while... wish I could say it was because of school/work, but really it's because I've been wrapped up in Suikoden 3.

Anyway, I'll look at the save this afternoon and answer Scout's questions.

@ coletite: Suikoden 3 for you...

...Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town for me.

There, feel a little better? :)
