GMR Game - Got Cookie?

Yeah, Roman army got lucky in that pillaged iron.

So Alistair got G&K? I thought you initially resisted it or just waited for while after the release?

He said he would get it around August. I was wondering that too.

Sounds like Cookie is out of practice! :(

To Greek: Caesar found your intention, and we are building another balista and warrior for defense. We appologize if we are mistaken.

Do not worry one bit. These are just patrols. I need to keep my troops moving because it feels like I'm in a wolf den and I cant afford to look like a weak target.

Hmm. Looks like you didnt take my word for it. I would kindly ask you to stop moving troops to our borders. We have done nothing to anger romans.

The Romans have every right to protect our border. It's YOUR Calvary on our way and we advice your troops to leave out of our sight to avoid escalating tensions.

speaking for myself only -- when I see one unit at the border on its own from time to time I see it as a patrol, when I see every tile on the other side of my border occupied by cavalry or hoplites I see it as a threat. I suspect EEE may feel similarly ...

The Iroquois also scoff at the constant assertion of Greece being 'cramped' with respect to territory.

My hoplites are blocking off any troops from moving in on our lands, only reason they are standing there. And its not like "every" tile is hard to do. There are 2 tiles...

Hiawata may be happy to know that those hoplites may have to move soon. The real threat is in the south, not from some tree loving, feather wearing, tipi living nomads. Become a proper civilization already!

Those are the two tiles of which I speak :)

we don't mind the hoplites, just cautioning that as long as 'your' 2 tiles (the mountains at our border are far from yours, don't think we don't notice your attempt to claim Sidon as part of the Greek nation) are occupied by Greek troops, our closest four tiles will be occupied by our righteous mohawk warriors, ready to chop off their heads should they attempt to enter our enlightened lands. The only interest any of our troops would have in moving east of the mountains now that we have mapped the intervening territory would be if war broke out between us and we needed to come and take your scalp in your far-off Greek cities.

Yes, I did not have G&K before, but I do now. There is method to the seeming arbitrariness, I swear.

In multiplayer, I sometimes misjudge the Prisoner's Dilemma aspect, in spite of the fact that I of all people should know better. I was concerned that the folks on the other continent would somehow manage to choose 'Cooperate' over 'Defect' - of course, as is predictable, this seems not to have been the case.

I hear what you're saying. If civs do cooperate, they can wipe out the other continent. But in civ, any cooperation is usually for a limited time, and nearer neighbours tend to be seen more as a threat, or at least as competition for land and resources. The exception would be when players don't actually care about winning, maybe are playing more for the story / narrative aspect.

One thing that seems to be missing from civ 5 is the ability to form alliances and share victories. I know in civ 4, when I had a formal alliance with another civ, and won a cultural victory, my partner was declared joint winner, too. It came as a surprise, but I got over it. ;)
