Will be adding more to the post as I get them, so far just the techs, wonders and Atomic era.

Atomic Era:
- "The Future has a way of arriving unannounced" - George Will

- "Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done" - Louis D. Brandeis

- "This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for Mankind" - Neil Armstrong

- "Progress is the realisation of Utopias - Oscar Wilde

CN Tower
"Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws." - Douglas Adams

Great Firewall
"Distrust and caution are the parents of security." - Benjamin Franklin

Great Mosque of Djenne

Hubble Space Telescope
"The wonder is, not that the field of stars is so vast, but that man has measured it." - Anatole France

Leaning Tower of Pisa
"Don't clap too hard - it's a very old building." - John Osborne

Neuschwanstein
"...the location is one of the most beautiful to be found, holy and unapproachable, a worthy temple for the divine friend who has brought salvation and true blessing to the world." - King Ludwig II of Bavaria

Petra
"...who drinks the water I shall give him, says the Lord, will have a spring inside him welling up for eternal life. Let them bring me to your holy mountain in the place where you dwell. Across the desert and through the mountain to the Canyon of the Crescent Moon..." - Indiana Jones

Terracotta Army
"Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death." - Sun Tzu

Technologies

Architecture
"Architecture begins where engineering ends." - Walter Gropius

Ballistics
"Men, like bullets, go farthest when they are smoothest." - Jean Paul

Combined Arms
"The root of the evil is not the construction of new, more dreadful weapons. It is the spirit of conquest." - Ludwig von Mises

Drama and Poetry

Telecommunications
"The more we elaborate our means of communication, the less we communicate." - J.B. Priestly

Not a single Bible quote and one from Indiana Jones! Even on the quotes front Firaxis have upped their game :D

While hilarious, I don't think it's a very good quote.
Same for the one of Neuschwanstein, but the rest are very nice and fitting IMHO.
...okay...besides Great Firewall. Benjamin Franklin would probably rotate in his grave if he saw how one his quotes is used.

The beauty of taking a quote out of its context. I do agree about the Neuschwanstein quote though, quite the bore that one. the one for the Leaning Tower of Pisa must be my favourite from G+K so far.

They have to pay the voice actor, but not for the quotes. I wish they'd just gather up a metric ton of quotes for each tech (ok maybe a handful) and randomize them.

Well...the intented usage of both is the same, so...

The beauty of taking a quote out of its context.

Right, right.
But it doesn't make it unsuitable.

Ooohh...you'd think so.
But while I was searching for quotes for my Civ4 mod, I realized at some point that I wasted a few hours for only finding a handful.
It seems easy, but finding good and fitting quotes takes quite some time.

Most of the quotes are at least OK with a couple standouts (Industrialization and Telecommunications, for example), but is it really so hard to find quotes for some of these non-Western wonders that you have to dig up things white people have said that maybe kind of relate to them just a little bit? Especially the Petra quote. Why not give the Statue of Liberty a quote from Gurren Lagann Pokémon while we're at it? Also, minor gripe with the Armstrong quote. What he said was "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." He rehearsed the line before and during the mission, and he messed it up. That's why you never actually see it written out, because it's hard to fudge it that way.

He later wondered if history would forgive him for not saying "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." Most people don't even notice .

This is very true. Although granted, by saying that, it does mean he also said the quote correctly, although you'd have to start it with an elipses to be completely accurate. ;)

I thought he did say it right but there was a blip in the transmission and it wasn't heard on earth.

More quotes, this time technologies from the Civil War scenario (removed from final release)

Civil War Technologies:

Balloon Recon
"I have the pleasure of sending you this first dispatch ever telegraphed from an aerial station - T.S.C. Lowe

Cavalry Raids
"Jeb Stuart is my ideal of a cavalry leader, prompt, vigilant, and fearless.” - Thomas Jackson

Entrenchment
"I have always regretted that the last assualt at Cold Harbor was ever made..." - Ulysses S. Grant

Field Hospitals
"The conflict is one thing I've been waiting for. I'm well and strong and young -- young enough to go to the front. If I cannot be a soldier, I'll help soldiers" - Clara Barton

Ironclads
The turrets and other parts of the ship were heavily struck, but the shots did not penetrate; the tower was intact, and it continued to revolve. A look of confidence passed over the men's faces, and we believed the Merrimac would not repeat the work she had accomplished the day before" - Lieutenant S. Dana Greene

Military Railroads
"The North can make a steam engine, locomotive, or railway car; hardly a yard of cloth or pair of shoes can you make. You are rushing into war with one of the most powerful, ingeniously mechanical, and determined people on Earth — right at your doors - William Tecumseh Sherman

Repeating Rifles
"Our best officers estimate one man armed with a Spencer is equivalent to three with any other arm" - General James Wilson

Rifled Artillery
"The Yankee Three-inch rifle was a dead shot at any distance under a mile. They could hit the end of a flour barrel more often than miss, unless the gunner got rattled." - Confederate Gunner

Scorched Earth
"War is Hell" - William Tecumseh Sherman

although it's not from g&k, i enjoy the irony of the george w. bush quote for the most advanced tech you can possibly research in the game

I think all quotes should be by white people. Why not? Are you some sort of sicko racist? Siss. :crazyeye:
Moderator Action: Such flaming is not allowed in this forum. Please post in a civil way.

There are at least 3 quotes for removed techs:

Main game:
TechHydroelectrics.mp3

Hydroelectrics would obviously unlock Hydro Plants.

Scenario:
TechMedReformation.mp3
TechMedCounterRef.mp3

They obviously came from a time when Reformation was initiated by researching a tech.

There seems to be no removed tech for the steampunk scenario.

Moderator Action: *snip* *snip* *snip* *snip* *snip* that was a bit much for here, even after self censoring.

Oh, sorry...thought you were looking for my quotes during the game.

Best Civ quote ever wasn't really a quote: the picture of Al Gore when you researched The Internet. :D
