Russia has pleged neutrality, but if other nations insist on taking apart other nations on the borders of Russia Russia will get involved, and the only way to fight an enemy armed with nuclear weapons is to strike first.

Storm Rider said:
I assume that by my rather intimate involvement with this conflict I am exempt from this, correct?

The statement above refers to powers outside this region. Russia pleged neutrality but we will not sit idly by and wait for powers from across the globe to take apart nations on our borders for their profit.

To Russia
From the USE
While we respect your wishes for a scaling down of the war, and will try to talk to the United States, we do not respect your policing of other nations with threats of "nuclear strikes", and we had hoped that Russia had learned its lesson after the disaster of '67.

Russia withdraws the threat of use of force and appologises to the USA and the Philippines. Russia further re-itirates that a diplomatic solution to the crisis is best and stresses that if a conflict should ensue it must remain limited and not turn into a World War.

Argentina develops functioning hydrogen Fuel Cell Engine!

Argentina, long a leader in the world of hydrogen and plastics research, as successfully developed a functioning hydrogen fuel cell, which can create enough power to power, eventually, a vehicle. This is a great leap forward for Argentina, and, if Argentina can find a way to produce a steady and cheap amount of hydrogen to fuel this engine, then it will be the world leader in this technology, and this will revolutionize the Argentinian Economy, and perhaps the SADETO economy as well. Argentina's next challenge is to find a steady source of hydrogen. Argentina is also the world's leader in synthetic plastics, and, while not having made a breakthrough, they have made synthetic plastic a lot easier and cheaper to manufacture. Argentina has also helped to make Bolivia's election, as we shall explain later, go successfully.

Bolivia finally holds successful election

The political turmoil and Constitutional Crisis has finally ended in Bolivia, as the People's Socialist Party sweeps to victory in the tightly contest Bolivian election. Bolivia had been paralyzed. Hugo Banzer did not make it in, thankfully, for some, and the new leader is promising to make life better for Bolivians, and is promising much closer ties with Argentina, clearly banking that Argentina will help him keep his promises. Amnesty international reports that no new cases of Human Rights abuses have taken place thus far, leading many to hope that this new leader will treat all Bolivians with respect.

Cambodians riot as FRSEA jail Pol Pot!

The FRSEA has jailed Pol Pot, and arrested many of his followers, in a stunning move, which has left Cambodians, who revere Pol Pot as their leader to liberate them from the clutches of the ethnic Burmese majority, who effectively control the country, to riot, and protest, and demand his release. In the Cambodian region of the country, the people have staged a number of strikes, and large protests, into the millions, at times. The Government has remained firm, stating that Pol Pot is a terrorist. Cambodians say that the Burmese are cracking down on Pol Pot, which is cracking down on the rights of Cambodians. Amnesty International released a report condemning the FRSEA move, denouncing it as undemocratic, and is calling upon nations like China, Vietnam, and Malaysia to step in, and force the FRSEA Government to change its mind. Ethnic Burmese do not seem to concerned about the move, and are going on with life as normal. The FRSEA has started to pump money into Cambodia, building new roads, factories, schools, and the like, but Cambodians reject that as a bribe, and demand the release of their leader. No armed uprising as taken place yet, but the conditions are ripe for it, and the FRSEA could see itself split down the middle, unless they do something, and fast.

Romania uncovers plot to overthrow Government!

The Romanian Leader, Nicolae Ceausescu, has claimed to have uncovered a plot by his former Minister of Defense to overthrow his Government. The plot involved secretly funding Ukrainians to secede from Russia, and then, while Russia was sidetracked and coping with the Ukrainian situation, the Army would stage a coup d'etat. Nobody is sure if the former MoD actually planned this, but Ceausescu claimed this, and provided “proof”, and executed 24 people, broadcast on National Television, that showed Ceausescu forcing the 24, including what appears to be the MoD, and his family, and some other top level officials, to read statements declaring that they tried to overthrow his Government, and that they are inherently evil people. Amnesty International has strongly condemned these as capital murder without a trial, but nobody will ever know for sure what happened, given the tight security in the nation. The MoD has been replaced by a Ceausescu loyalist.

Yugoslavia relaxes some restrictions

Yugoslavia has relaxed some of its Communist-era restrictions, by encouraging more tourists and foreigners to come to the country, and by allowing Religion. Now that the nation is no longer atheist, Religion is flourishing in Yugoslavia, as churches and mosques are re-opened, and built. Pope John Paul II, of the Roman Catholic Church, took a 4 day pilgrimage to this nation, shaking hands with the leader, and visiting regions of the country. His visit was seen as a test to see if Yugoslavia is truly open for Religion. Hundreds of thousands of Yugoslavians welcomed him, and he seemed pleased to be in the country. Some were wondering if he would be accepted into the nation, given his strong anti-Communist speeches in the past, but he managed to hold his tongue on that subject for the 4 days. He praised Yugoslavian officials for allowing Religion, and for opening its borders more. On that subject, Yugoslavia is now totally open for trade, according to Yugoslavian officials, as was demonstrated at a very public ceremony where the Yugoslavian leader opened a Gate leading into Yugoslavia. No word on the Muslim uprising in the South, but reports of fighting have slowly trickled in. In other news regarding Yugoslavia, the Yugoslavian Democratic Party has been formed. This is a small party, but they represent the growing voice of Yugoslavians calling for Democracy. They also are not calling for a revolution, but a peaceful transition, such as occurred in China, and Russia. Increased Foreign Investment and Tourism has led the Yugoslavian Economy to do well.

Austria and Hungary join to create Hapsburg Empire!

Austria and Hungary have joined, and a new nation has been formed, the Hapsburg Empire. The new nation now has an Emperor once again, and is a Constitutional Monarchy, with an election Parliament, and PM and the such. Most Austrians and Hungarians are relieved by the arrangement, as they are justifiably nervous of their neighbours, Communists in the Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and Romania, the neo-Nazi Germany, and the USE. The Hapsburg Empire is reportedly undergoing a huge militarization project, but has not officially said anything yet. When the announcement was made that Hungary and Austria would unite, millions took to the streets throughout the country, cheering, and denouncing the Fascists and Communists whom, they say, want to take them over.

War adverted between USA and RF as USA changes its Military

War was adverted between the Russian Federation and the USA, as the 2 rivals bickered over the exact wording of the agreement signed that mandates that the Military of the USA cannot exceed 100,000 Active Duty Personal. The Russians threatened to invade again, and fired a Cruise missile over the USA, landing in the Gulf of Mexico, which just heightened tensions more. Congress quickly passed a Bill that made all personal over 100,000 people part of the “Reservists”, which are, legally, Military Personal which work, and can be called into duty. These Reservists work for at least a Month in the year at their civilian job, and the rest of the time in the Military Corps. Clearly, however, the issue of the American Military is still a very thorny one, and a great irritant between the 2 countries.

Millions of Americans denounce Russia, protests

In the USA, the anti-Russian sentiment just seems to rise and rise. Americans, frustrated at the seemingly cowardice in their Government, are taking to the streets in the millions, chanting anti-Russian slogans, burning Russian flags, and making things miserable for Russians living in the USA. In fact, the American National Guard had to be called in to stop a huge crowd in Washington, DC, from destroying the Russian Embassy, which was firebombed. Thankfully, no real damage was done. Several anti-Russian groups joined forces and collected a record 6.9 Million signatures on a petition that they presented to both the Russian and American Governments demanding that Alaska be returned to the USA, and that the restrictions on the American military be lifted. The Russian Government denounced the move, and the Russian President publicly ripped to shreds some of the pages, while no reaction came from the American Government. The Democrats, in the US, are pledging to take a stronger line with Russia if elected in the next election, which might win the election for them. Clearly, something needs to be done here. The American Government is eager to avoid a war with Russia, especially since Russia and the USA cooperate closely on these matters, but opinion polls show that up to 60% of Americans would be in favour of going to war with Russia to get Alaska back, and to lift the limit on their Military.

Panama chooses to become the 53rd State of the USA!

OOC – The USA today has 49 states. Minus 2 for Alaska and Hawaii. That is 47. Plus 5 for British Colombia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario brings us to 52. Plus one for Panama makes 53, right?

In a National Referendum, amid new demands by Colombia that panama re-join that nation, Panamanians voted in favour of joining the USA. 63% of Panamanians voted to become the 53rd State of the USA, with 5% wanting Independence, and another 32% wanting to remain a Commonwealth of the USA. While most Americans seemed happy, Panamanians were even happier. Since they are a part of the USA, they are experiencing a flood of investment, as American Equalization Plans come into force to ensure that Panamanians enjoy the same levels of health care and education that all other Americans receive. Politically, this is dynamite for both the Democrats and the Republicans, who launched huge campaigns to try and get Panamanians to agree to support their party. In the past, panama has been fairly Conservative, but it is another battleground state for the 2 parties, vying for control of the USA. Around the world, most countries didn't react very much. United Korea used this to show that Americans are Capitalists, but not much reaction besides Colombia. Colombia still claims Panama has a part of it, and is extremely angry with the USA for allowing Panama to join the USA.

Massive Diamond, Gold strikes in Nunavut

American Prospectors are reporting that they have uncovered what could be the second largest diamond strike in history, only behind the strike in South Africa. In a separate strike, a large Gold Vein was discovered. The Prospectors did not release the locations of these fines to the WNN, but did hint that it was near a Lake, perhaps Great Bear or Slave Lake. The Diamonds that could come out of a future mine could be worth up to 5 eco, and the gold up to 3 eco, but the Nunavut Government refuses to allow anybody to come and mine it, stating that it would disrupt the migration of animals. In fact, Nunavut has cracked down on all Foreigners, mandating that a Guide must accompany all Foreigners, and prospecting in Nunavut lands is illegal. They are apparently very concerned about disruptions to their way of life, and the influences of modern society. Calls to the Nunavut Government by WNN Reporters were unanswered.

China annexes Mongolia!

In a surprise move, China moved its army in, and attacked, invaded, and annexed Mongolia. Chinese were shocked at the news, and some went out and protested about this move. Chinese parliamentarians also passed a Resolution denouncing the President and Minister of Defense for committing this act without consulting them. Chinese, for the most part, thought that Mongolia should be part of China anyway, but most Chinese were against Chines actively conquering Mongolia. Nonetheless, they did, and now they assume this poor country, and the 6 eco debt to Russia. Internationally, most accepted this, although some in Russia were concerned if China would agree to pay back the debt. China has allowed gambling in Mongolia, and has reconstructed the Genghis Khan shrine, which has meant more tourists are visiting the shrine. Mongolians were celebrating as investment from China started pouring in. Some in Mongolia, mainly the old die-hard Communists, have formed a small group which is battling the Chinese military, but to no avail. Clearly, Mongolia will be better off in China now. China has also started a project to give scholarships to its poor children to encourage them to attend University and the like. This might have an effect later if more is invested.

Chinese-Indian Borders clashes!

Chinese and Indian forces arrayed along their common border clashed recently, in the Aski Chin region, which is disputed, and claimed by both sides. It is now clear that it was started by an Indian soldier accidentally stepping on a mine, which killed him. Indian Officials thought it was the Chinese, and ordered a retaliation, which quickly turned into a shooting war, as both sides rushing thousands of troops, tanks and planes in. It was over quick, though, as Chinese and Indian officials met, and agreed to not fight, and uphold the cease-fire. This incident shows how fragile the peace is between India and China. The number of lives lost in this is unknown, it is estimated to be able 1,000 on either side.

Israel faces economic slowdown as trade between UIS and USE stops

Israel might be facing some very tough economic times, as the UIS-USE war starts, which has effectively stopped most trade between the 2. The Israeli Government is scrambling to solve the problem, which has cost them an eco level already,. and needs to do somethings, and fast, or it will see more of its lucrative trading income drying up.

Ivory Coast close to AIDS cure as AIDS continues to ravage Africa

The Ivory Coast is reportedly close to an AIDS cure as that virus continues to ravage that continent. AIDS cases spread to all parts of Africa, with several cases showing up in Algeria and Libya. AIDS is killing nearly 100 people a month. This seems small, but AIDS has infected millions. This virus, is spread by either by sharing needles used for drugs, unprotected sex, or accidents during surgery. Basically it spreads by blood. There has been one drug released in 1960 that does, in about 10% of cases, slow down the virus, which disables the immune system, leaving the victim susceptible to infections. The Ivory Coast is apparently close to a cure for this ailment, although nobody knows how close they are, nor the cost of such a drug. Also not know is if this drug would cure the disease, or merely slow it down.

Genocide in Southern Africa!

Genocide is being committed in Southern Africa, according to Amnesty International, Freelance Journalists who dare enter the region, and Religious Missionaries. They are reporting a well-armed, well financed group has been going around the parts of the African Federation not under control by the African Federation, and murder, in cold bloody, all those that oppose the African Federation. The AF Government has strongly denied any wrongdoing, and strongly denies that it was their forces that committed this action. Reports of Genocide have come in from as far north as the Congo and Tanzania regions of the AF, but no further north, which probably means that the militias committing the genocide were not able to get that far north. Reports of deaths are not clear, it is estimated that it might run into the millions. The AF also has begun a military campaign to gain control of land in the north again, with a major push with half a million man. It is meeting heavy resistance from local guerilla fighters. many of those in the South African and Namibian portions of the AF think it would simply be easier for the AF to let all those parts of the country go, and not fight. Experts all agree that the AF will never again gain control over all that is previously owned. Meanwhile, Kenya and Cameroon have declared Independence, which is, of course, not recognized by the AF. Casualty Reports are next to impossible to determine, so the following are rough guesses. Meanwhile, Foreign Investors, nervous about the renewed militarism in the AF, started to flee the country, taking their money with them, which led to a drop in the AF Economy.

Jamaica, Dominican Republic vote for Independence!

In elections held in the former Philippines Colonies of Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, those 2 former colonies voted for Independence, by a landslide. It was over 70% in both cases. After they agreed to allow the Philippines to maintain a Military Base on both of their land, Jamaica then agreed to join the People's Republic of Central America, and the Dominican Republic the Democratic Union of Central America.

Insurgency in the Philippines calms down after actions by Filipino Government

The Insurgency in the Philippines is largely over, thanks to the good actions of the Filipino Government. They initiated a highly successful series of Unity Advertisements, and passed a Bill which gives all Philippine States a large degree of autonomy, much like the USA does. This allowed the Muslims in the South to have what they wanted, which was a Muslim orientated system of Schools, Hospitals, and laws. In the South of the Philippines, Women may not be seen without their Burkas, and the strictest interpretation of the Koran has been implemented. The insurgency is mostly over, and only the extremists, and hardliners who demand a separate nation, battle on. They are few in number, and the Filipino Army has had increasing success at detaining them. With the stability in the Philippines increasing, Foreign Investors are once again coming back to the Philippines, to exploit the large cheap work force. The Filipino economy has increased by one eco level.

Maoris demand more compensation, more land

The Maori people of New Zealand are demanding 2 additional ecos from the CU Government as compensation for their lost land, and they are demanding that the CU grant them land equal to half of what the CU Supreme Court stated that they were owed. If they don't get that, then they are threatening to go to the Supreme Court again, where analysts predict that they will get what they demand easily, and perhaps more. The CU Supreme Court seems to be firmly on the side of Maoris, as well as most CU people. In other CU news, their economy continues to recover.

Kurdistan created!

Kurdistan, the long-awaited homeland for the Kurdish minority, has been created, taking with it a large chunk of Turkey, and smaller chunks of Iran, Iraq, and the UIR. Iran, Iraq, and the UIR did not really mind giving up that land. After all, it got the problem of the pesky Kurds rebelling, and whining about a homeland off their plate, but the Turkish people did. They lost a good chunk of their land, and several million people. Kurdistan has very close ties to Russia, and in fact has about 10,000 Russian Military Advisors in it, to give advice to Kurdistan on how to build its country up. The Kurdistan Worker's Party, a Socialist Party, verging on Communism, won the first Kurdish election, and it seems those close ties with Russia will continue. There is a lot of animosity between Kurdish and Turkish representatives in the UIS Congress.

IBM Relocates to Moscow!

In a move that shocked the Business World, but didn't surprise it, IBM has moved its International Headquarters from the USA to Moscow, Russia. Russia has been undergoing a Economic Revolution, of sorts, and is now considered the best place in the world to conduct business, with many Foreign investors taking advantage of low interest rates, and other Government incentives which encourage companies to relocated to Russia. IBM is the biggest company to have done so, and this will, over the next few years, provide immense benefits for Russia as IBM continues its work on Computers. Russia has the lowest corporate income taxes in the world, no restrictions on foreign and international corporations, and no sales tax for its stock exchange. These bold policies are attracting so many companies into Russia that Russia has the lowest unemployment rate in the world, except for the Falklands. Clearly, Russia is booming, and its economy just edged up another notch to make Russia a Powerhouse economically, and barely behind the USE in sheer profits.

War erupts between Pakistan, India as bombs go off!

Everyone saw it coming a long time ago. With hundreds of thousands of troops on either side of the border, it would take but a minor push to have India and Pakistan at war. Well, they got a fairly large shove. It all started when Muslim extremists, or what looked like Muslim extremists, planted several bombs in Northern Indian cities, and set them off, killing over 30 people. The Indian Government was furious, and blamed Iran and Pakistan. Then simultaneous explosions took place in Mosques in Pakistan and Iran, infuriating Muslims. Muslims blamed Hindus, who blamed Muslims. After 3 days of intense rhetoric, the shooting began. Nobody knows who pulled the trigger first, both sides blame the other, of course, both the giant armies of Pakistan and Indian have swung into war. That is, Pakistan and India are in a de facto state of war, a shooting war in the mountainous region that they share their common border. The war has been raging for awhile, and thousands of soldiers have died. Truces were called 4 times, and both times, each blamed the other of breaking it. Currently, a very sketchy cease-fire is in place, but soldiers still continue to die. Millions of Muslims and Hindus on either side are answering the call to take up arms, get some training, and kill the other. The only certainty about this war is that neither side will win, unless WMDs are used, and that will be disastrous for either side. This is a story of 2 ethnic groups who hate each other, killing each other in a bloody war of attrition. Any ground gained is almost instantly taken back. Another factor that is starting to play a major role in this war is a deadly new virus which was unleashed, either by man or by nature. It affects the respiratory tract, and makes people feel weak, and sick, but not necessarily die. It has been causing havoc in Pakistani lines, but has yet to have a real negative impact on the Indian side.

Indira Ghandi delivers on promises for India

The newly elected leader of India, Indira Ghandi, is delivering on promises that she made during her election. She has invested billions into Education and Health Care in India, with free college for all Indians, banning Child Labor, and encouraging tourists. People are still wary of India, and Foreign Investment has not picked up, as Investors need to be absolutely sure that these new policies are not simply a trap, and will indeed be for the long-term, but some are starting to re-invest in this country. Indians are being encouraged to have more Children, and people living in overpopulated parts of the country are encouraged to move to less populated parts of the country. The Tamils, Khalistani, and Sikhs have all gotten more autonomy in their local affairs, which has largely ended their complaints. Indians are being encouraged to join the Army, and many are volunteering, especially the unemployed. While all of these policies hare having a net benefit for Indians, India still has many challenges to overcome before she can become a Superpower. She faces a potentially very costly war with Pakistan that is unwinnable, and possibly with China. Inside India, poverty is still bad, but getting better. Foreign Investors need long-term, stable planning by the Government in order to invest in India. India's past, the genocide of Muslims, and political upheavals, are also road bumps for India to get over. The caste system, which India has been trying to eradicate, still exists. Some are lower in the Social system, and suffer because of that. India still also faces some sporadic fighting among ethnic groups, and the Sikhs and others still demand a separate Khalistan, although cries for that are diminishing. If India can get over that, then India will one day rival the likes of Russia and the USE for the Most Powerful nation in the World. India has been forging a very close relationship with Germany. It remains to be seen what will become of this. Germany and India have been doing some War Games in various types of terrain, many have been centered around an invasion of Pakistan, say experts.

Mafia, Gangs, becoming a problem in Russia

Russia has solved many problems that she once had, but another is emerging, and that is criminal activity. The Mafia has been growing in power in downtown Moscow, and, while the Russian Police and Special Forces have been having good luck in brining it down, it seems to be like the fictional multi-headed monster, operating is small groups, each group separate of one another. The new tactic of the Mafia has been to sell illegal drugs, either Heroin from Afghanistan, or Cocaine from Colombia, to get young Russians addicted, and then extort money from them, with which to do evil deeds. this problem is not out of control, but more attention needs to be paid to crime in general in Russia.

Morocco and Western Sahara Granted Independence

The former USEian colonies of Morocco and the Western Sahara have been each given 1 eco by the USE, and granted Independence! This is a stunning change from just 13 years ago, when the USE and UIS fought a very bloody war over those 2 parts of Africa, and others that the USE held then, and many historians are scratching their heads thinking “why did we fight for them again?”. But, some good came from it, Democratic Elections were held in those 2 former colonies, and they have joined the UIS. Normally, this would improve relations between the UIS and USE, but, as we shall see later, it didn't.

IRA terror campaign gets worse

The Campaign by the Irish Republican Army, demanding that Ireland be granted Independence, is heating up. The attacks by this group have been fast and furious, and gunfights and explosions are now commonplace on the streets of Dublin and Belfast. It seems clear that they got funding for their renewed attacks, but the big question is from whom. Meanwhile, in Italy, given the war, the noises for Independence by Italians has quieted down, but polls that just came out show that over 60% of Italians want Independence. Over 70% of Irish want independence, and the numbers are about 25% of French want Independence. Experts say that keeping Ireland might be impossible, as even the heavy USE Military Presence in Ireland cannot halt the violence. The USE has lost about 4,000 troops there, and 20 tanks, overall.

Battle for Cyprus turns into stalemate!

The War over Cyprus began as Turkey, who has always maintained a claim over all of the small Island of Cyprus, began a war for Cyprus. Turkey, after losing a lot of land to Kurdistan, demanded that the UIS help it get back all of Cyprus, of which, 2/3 is Greek. Well, Turkey tried, and the UIS, but the might of the USE and Greek Navies presented an insurmountable problem. The USE blockaded the Suez Canal and Gibraltar strait, not allowing any UIS ships in or out, and then used their immense naval power to destroy a lot of the UIS Navy, and stop any attempts by then to take the rest of Cyprus. The Turkish attack against the Southern Cyprus failed because the USE and Greece had reinforced their troops. This is a war for which the UIS cannot win, not until it seriously improves its Naval and Air Force capacity. Things did sort of go right for the UIS, though. They managed to trick a USE Carrier and some USE and Greek ships to pursue UIS ships up the Dardanelles region, near Istanbul, where they set off a Nuclear Weapon, destroying those ships. At least, the UIS is suspected of setting off the Nuke. They immediately blamed it on the USE and Greeks, and used that as propaganda to rally Millions of Muslims in a Jihad against the evil Spanish.

Amnesty International claims genocide as Mexico tightens Security

Amnesty International is claiming that a genocide against Amerindian people is occurring inside Mexico. They claim up to 25,000 have died in Hitler-esque concentration camps, and more will die if nothing is done. Mexico also announced that it is clamping down on security, and no Foreigners, besides diplomats, are allowed in the country. The Mexican-USA Border also have been militarized by Mexico.

Acadia face Oil Crunch

Acadia is facing an Oil Dilemma. It needs a constant source of cheaper oil. It used to rely on the USA, but it cannot any longer, due to increasing prices. The Acadian economy has yet to be affected by this, but it could be, soon, if something is not done, and fast.

Pope continues touring the world

As we reported earlier, the Pope visited Yugoslavia. But that is not all he visited. He did a blitz trip through Europe, stopping at the new Hapsburg Empire, visiting Poland, several days in Greece and Germany, and then the Scandinavian countries. He then went to Jerusalem, where he had a historic summit with Orthodox Christian, Jewish, and Muslim leaders. After that, it was North America, and to huge rallies in Quebec and Acadia, and smaller ones in the USA. He visited, shortly, with Native Elder in Nunavut. After that, he took a break before heaving to DUCA, and panama. He made a couple stops in South America, before going on a 1 month tour of Asia. He visited huge crowds of cheering Christians in China, Japan, Vietnam, and other such countries. This Pope is setting records for the number of countries he is visiting, and the speed. He is taking criticism that he is not taking care of Vatican activities.

Germany continues Military buildup, rhetoric

Germany is continuing its Military buildup, and the rhetoric. The Germany Army is very large, and, after extensive training with Indian troops, very well-trained. Germans support Droeger, and his policies by a factor of 70%, and that number just goes up. Droeger did shock the world by admitting to being a neo-Nazi, but he did promise that the mistakes of World War II would not be repeated. Germany is on the road to something, and many think what is it is about to come to fruition.

20,000 Bulgarians fleeing to Greece per annum

The number of Bulgarians fleeing to Greece has risen to 20,000 per year, as more and more Bulgarians flee Bulgaria's crushing poverty for the promise of Greece. The Greek economy, growing at a blistering pace, can take these new migrants, but eventually, these migrants will have a net negative effect on the Greek economy. Some in Greece also complain that these could be terrorists flooding into Greece.

Finnish Referendum yields in no clear result

Finland's crisis over political ideology continues. It held a referendum on the future of the nation, and the result was conclusive in only that Finland is split right down the middle. The Southern part of Finland voted for closer relations with Germany, while the Northern portion voted to join Russia. Some think that Finland will split in 2, with the Northern half joining Russia, and the Southern half becoming Fascist, and being a close ally of Germany. nobody is quite sure, and the political wrangling continues.

Korean-Japanese tensions continue to escalate

In a controversial move, Korea landed several troops on some small, desolate islands that both Korea and Japan, which increased tensions between the 2 neighbours. Korean and Japanese ships also briefly traded fire, after Korean ships attacked a boatload of Korean Refugees being helped by a Japanese Destroyer. This did not turn into an armed conflict, but just shows how tense things are. Korea also announced that is has 25 nuclear weapons, and is ready and willing to use then to defend the Workers of Korea.

Muslim insurgency continues in Thailand

The Muslim insurgency demanding independence for the southern provinces of Thailand got worse, as Muslims carried out a string of violent attacks against Thai forces. The Muslims are demanding either Independence, or to be allowed to join Malaysia. As the fighting gets worse, many expect Thailand to simply let them join Malaysia, rather then fight a costly war to hold onto them.

Sunni insurgency crushed in Iraq

The Shiite force in Iraq achieved a major victory in Iraq, as they have appeared to have totally crushed the Sunni uprising. Led by the Baath Party and Saddam Hussein, the insurgency demanded more rights for Shiites in the country. The Iraqi army managed to find and kill the leaders of the insurgency, ending the uprising.

UIR manages to overcome Ethnic grief

The UIR has managed to end some of its ethnic strife by allowing greater control in Government for minorities. This has caused the country to be more united, as it prepares for its first ever elections. Along with Iraq, this might be an indication that things will get better inside of the UIS.

Brazil Battles Aboriginal rights in Supreme Court

The Legal Battles continued in the Brazilian Supreme Court, as Brazil decided to fight Court Orders that specifically allows Aboriginal groups to keep the land that they had been promised. Some Companies are making deals to exploit the resources on those lands, and give the aboriginal groups some of the profit, but the Brazilian Government is not happy with that agreement, and is continuing the legal battles.

The next update will be next week, either May 9th, 10th, or 13th. I will probably do it on the 10th, unless I cam called into work, in which case it will be Friday the 13th. Lucky ;)

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE RUSSIAN MID

USA, Philippines and the UIS/USE Crisis

Upon USA's or any other country's intervention into the UIS/USE crisis Russia will intervene against the outside force and will use all means necessary to destroy that country. We will prevent another World War and we will prevent more nations from getting involved even if it means a pre-emtive nuclear strike against that nation.

I will help my ally, whether you like it or not. The Russian MID basically has just said, that if a nation outside the region attacks UIS, they'll attack that nation. Interesting, no? Espically since they have just mentioned trying to keep a World War from happening. Hypocritical Russian diplomacy, once more. Here's a statement by the American Government.

If Russia uses threats of pre-emptive Nuclear strikes along with convential military attacks agaisnt another nation to force it to follow Russian diplomacy, the United States will consider this an act of supreme agression by the Russian government, and will declare war.
