While I don't wish to insult the work of scientists, but don't they do so too? What once was a mighty disease that could wipe out a small town is now avoided with a single vaccine if taken in the right time.

While I don't wish to insult the work of scientists, but don't they do so too? What once was a mighty disease that could wipe out a small town is now avoided with a single vaccine if taken in the right time.

In my field at least, there's some amount of diminishing returns, as in, we solve most of the easy problems that give us a good general picture, but getting some of the smaller things right (Madden-Julian Oscillation, cyclogenesis, etc.) can be much more difficult. Solving those kinds of problems can have subtle but still significant impacts on the general model. In some cases we can just throw our hands up and say it's good enough, but there's almost always some extra tricks you can throw at a problem to get more out of it.
