Oh oh, here comes the Palace rank exploit in a GOTM :(

It looks like you are the first to use the remote Palace exploit in gotm and openly confess that you did it on purpose.

I also built a remote Palace in gotm 24 but it was in the middle of conquest, so in 5 or 6 turns it became not so remote. However, this had still a tremendous impact on corruption.

May be it is time to switch gotm to C3C completely... This exploit alone is far too powerful.

Ancient Age Spoiler

Thank Goodness for the extra week this month! I've been in the IA for over a week, but with all the holiday festivities and activities, haven't been able to play or post!

Reached Middle Ages in 875 BC, same turn that I finished researcing Republic, started my Revolution (5 turns), finished off the Khazars and made contact with the other continent.

Warfare: I'd signed a ROP deal with the Baekje, and still had about 10 turns left on it, but they had a lot of money, access to Iron, and I planned to take them out to connect both China zones, so I moved all my units out of Baekje territory and declared war in 850 BC. (I broke a ROP deal, but at least I didn't have any units within their territory prior to declaring war.) I only met 4 Bushis during this war, 2 early on and 2 later, so my swordsmen had fairly good control of the field. I was able to get the Goguryeo to ally for free, but I found out that embassies can not be formed during Anarchy, so I had to wait until I became a Republic in 750 BC to bring in the Rajaputana as an additional ally. Last Baekje city is taken in 150 BC, after waiting 10 turns until its culture expanded.

Flips: 2 cities flipped to Baekje during that war! One was a gem city that I had founded in the North; the other was a recently taken city that I hadn't garrisoned. Both were retaken pronto.

I was planning to attack them eventually, but the Mongols declared war on me (allying with the Baekje) in 725 BC. My Northern Horsemen destroy Hovd and take Ta-Tu, then play defensive. In 570 BC I sign a peace deal for a Mongol Worker and 60 gold. Then in 190 BC, Kaifeng decides to flip to the Mongols! I wait 2 more turns until the peace treaty has expired, and restart the war. I typically raze cities during this war, to prevent future flips. Peace is resigned in 230 AD after the last Mongol continental city is taken; they are left with 1 island city.

GL's: One of the reasons I started the war with the Baekje was to generate a Great Leader to place a Forbidden Palace near the Baekje center. It took about 26 Elite victories, but I finally got a GL in 370 BC, and formed my Forbidden Palace in New Beijing, very near the former Baekje capital (which was razed when taken :) ) in 330 BC.

Golden Age: triggered by a Rider vs 1 hp Mongol Spearman in 170 AD. Fairly late in the Middle Ages, and it will carry through into the early Industrial Age for me.

Research: took too long judging by some other posts. I focused first on Marketplaces, then on Libraries, using Taxes to rush them. Feudal Warlords and Engineering were already learned by the Scientific civs, and traded for with Republic. I started on Monotheism in 750 BC, and was finally the first to research it in 150 BC (30 Turns later!) After that it was fairly short research times, typically 5 or 4 turns, for the remaining part of the MidAges. The AI also helped me out by learning Invention, Gunpowder, Chemistry, Metallurgy, and Banking; I researched the upper track: Monotheism, Son Buddhism, Education, Astronomy, Physics, Magnetism and Theory of Gravity, reaching the Industrial Age in 330 AD.

I turned Beijing (the capital, near the North position) and Canton (formed near the Wheat/Goats/Lambs) into 1 turn Worker factories during most of the Middle Ages; this provided a lot of Jungle clearing power, and lots of workers to build up population later.

Here is my F3 minimap and army (except for about 4 MedInfs and 1 Junk):

I directly own 5 luxuries, and have been able to trade for the other 3 using Techs, so I don't require any commerce to go to Luxuries. Most of my core cities are size 12, have finished their Universities and are working on Banks. After Banks I'll have them build Riders, then Factories once they are available. Here is the F1 display in 330 AD:

I'm the only industrial age civ in my game, at this point. I plan to bring the other key research civs into the IA, see what Techs the scientific civs get, and make plans based on what I see. I don't think I'll keep the peace with the Koreans for long; they have a lot of culture and I can't take too much risk of flips, so I expect to upgrade my Horsemen to Riders and take out most of their border cities.

Ancient Age Spoiler

The Middle Ages dawned with Chinan flipping to the Mongols. In 690 BC I jumped the palace south to Shanghai, two turns before Macao flipped to the takeda – my fourth flip of ther game. I retook it quickly, and made peace with the takeda in 570 BC, as the Han Dynasty became a republic.

I had been waiting to switch governments to reap the full benefits of conquering the Baekje. I declared war in 550 BC, allied with every other civ on the continent, and took their capital with my 12 swords on the next turn. This gave me the Great Library. My plan was to coast on its free techs while I saved gold for a mass horseman upgrade. (Yangchow flipped to the Baekje – flip #5.) The Baekje had only spears and arrows, and their cities fell steadily on both fronts – I had shifted my horses to the south before the war, and they now helped to enlarge the core around Shanghai. The Baekje were eliminated in 170 BC.

A second Leader was used on Sun Tzu (150 BC). I was bloodlessly at war again with the Takeda, who had one city on the mainland, in the Korean north. I had allied with the Mongols as a means to shift all of their horsemen well out of counter-attack range. I intended to invade them as soon as our alliance ended, because my FP was right on their border, so expanding west durig a GA would supercharge my research and productivity. I researched samurai code on my own in 30 BC, then built the Hanging Gardens with a second leader in 10 AD, which gave me a slightly early GA. The Library gave me education in 50 AD.

One turn later, while I set about researching astronomy in 5 turns, my positioned Riders charged as I declared war against the Mongols. Again, wanting no surprises, I allied with the Raj, Khazars, and Korea. The Koreans were the key, as allying with me trapped the Mongol mounted units deep in Korean territory. The Mongol cities were defended by pikemen and longbowmen; my Riders didn’t have much difficulty with them, and by 170 AD they had been reduced to an isoalted city in the south, which the Goguryeo would take in 300 AD.

Another leader had allowed me to rush Copernicus in 190 AD, and research continued at a four-turn clip. I caught up the eastern hemisphere technologically in 230 AD, but they only helped with the optional techs. In 280 AD I declared war on the Khazars, who had expanded to five cities. Three fell on the first turn, the last two in the next.

Moving quickly, I delcared war on the Goguryeo in 300 AD, this time allying only with the Raj. (The Goguryeo had stout defenses, and I wanted the Raj – my next target - to expend their offensive units fighting them.) The GA ended in 320 AD, but research continued at a four-turn rate. By 370 AD the Goguryeo had been reduced to a lone iron city in the midst of the Raj (who had no iron). In 390 AD Canton flipped to the Takeda – flip #6, but who’s counting? – and I declared war a few turns later (allied with Korea), retaking it in 450 AD. I entered the industrial era in 510 AD, tired of waiting for the Raj to take the Goguryeo city-state, and about to do it myself, before attacking them.

510 AD is a fast but not top-notch date to exit the Middle Ages, and what held me up is failing to get much help from the AI. The ancient era was slow, despite my best efforts tom keep the AI current. In the Middle Ages, I made a decision to help out the other continent, but not my own. In retrospect, I think I need to do more, or will not receive the help I need to keep up with games like those of SirPleb or Kuningas. Figuring out exactly what is another story!

1st time I reach spoiler 2. The extra week's a help. I'm in 380 AD and just left MA with ToG. Researched 2/3 of all techs myself. Since 150BC I'm on a 4-5 turn research path. The last techs at 4 turns. Sold/traded all techs after having them for 2 turns.

Went to war with Baekje first (pyramids), created 1st leader. After that with Mongols, took them out also & now Koreans (still fighting). Created leader 2,3 & 4. Also had one leader from swordsman which in upgraded form became leader again.

Build copernicus & Sun Tzu myself. Leaders used for rushing Sistine, Leonardo & Bach. Used Golden age to build cathedrals. I've got 8 luxuries & with marketplaces most towns have a continuous 'we love the emperor day'.

Hope to finish off Korea soon. Than I will go after Raja. He's keeping up in tech, but cannot upgrade because of all the tech/turn he's paying. Should be easy with the 20 cavalry I'm having

The other continent is doing fine. I'm trading techs there, so their attitude towards me is ok. Hope to get a diplomatic win. We'll see.
