This month I had not much time. To much to do at work and lot of practising music for a concert.... so I had to change to play an EC game after 1000 BC...

I won at least before 1 AD....but to capture the cities was very easy...1 or 2 elephants were enough....
If anyone is interested in more stats (2000 bc, 1000bc I can add them later).

675 BC first ship to English

Magic did you build lighthouse? I couldnt find a route to England without it.

I finished 100 ad, without much difficulties. I should have built Polo & Lighthouse sooner and I would have finished earliear. Also i got maps for England just as I set sail, and didnt check my intelligence to realise they had built 2 more cities while I was in transit, I could have traded maps and ended sooner as my men were out of position for one of the cities!

No I did not build lighthouse. I went to the west to get t0 them without the lighthouse....Blackclicking was the trick after trading maps with all civs after Marco Polo.

I could finish much earlier if I had made up my mind earlier:crazyeye:....but I started early in June till around 1000 bc and had till today no time to play civ....so I had no choice/

Interesting didnt see that. I think though the direct route is faster, just have to build lighthouse earliear. I was thinking of going for a spaceship so was not rushing, but decided to replay gotm 16 instead, so no time

It took me ages to get off the intial island. I went for currency then trade, then realised I was on an island and it took a long time to get map making. I went for conquest as well, but it wasn't quick. I also had to find the english the hard way, eventually went west and got them that way but only after exploring east for quite a while. I tried to build as many wonders as possible to counteract the barbarain penalty, but it took me a long time to find the last english city. I finished 450ad.

then realised I was on an island
You could have used something called blackclicking to discover you were on an island. In our case we were on continent 11, right click on a known square say a forest square and it says Loc: (77,27) 11
11 being the continent. Now right click on an unkown square and it might say Loc: (80,22) 1
1 being the area# and is thus a sea square, though you may have land with a continent #1
rightclick around the area and quickly discover this is a small island with only 1 more land square

(edit)
Sorry I would have said it was a small island, but with the island almost revealed I thought people would know(/edit)

You could have made peace/cease fire with the English, give them tech to make them worshipful, then trade maps

Hope this is helpful:cool:

I've never used blackclicking, I've heard about it, but never really done it. I don't tend to analyse much at the start of a game, just get stuck in. That's probably where I go wrong.;)

I've used the peace/gift/swap/kill tip before, but forgot all about it this time. I didn't have a lot of time this month and so rushed it a bit.
