Do they go together?

No

Or should you play in "C3C clean?"

Yes.
Well, mostly anyway. Some minor adjustments

Just try it! It is a great tool to learn. Especially if you look at the spoilers after you have qualified. You can learn a lot from the good players, just as I do. :)

To add to the other answers...

1. If you have RaR installed, you can still Play a regular "GOTM" game, but GOTM does not make any use of the RaR mod.

2. I'll second Darkness's statements. When I started playing GOTM I was a decent regent player, but not much more. GOTM brought me to the level where I have a few Diety wins under by belt.

 GotM and RaR have nothing to do with each other.

If I play using RaR & a GOTM, during that game the RaR "rules and mods" will not be available?

Wont it be "confusing" to play "random" games using RaR and play GOTM "standard"?

Just trying to get a feel.... and maybe try and get a bit better. Last Regent game I played ended up beeing a space victory in early 1900s, while getting my butt kicked around by a mountain of units (100+ or so) from Carthage, tho the were "lowly" units like geurilla's vs my TOWs, the shere numbers kept knocking of my city's (and razing them) one by one. 1 turn would take 10 minutes from all the attacks...

They were city's on another continent and farly corrupt, I kept building armors & tows but just could not keep up. Also boating in any units kept getting killed by a SoD of Ironclads :(

Lucky on my "own" continent I was able to finish the space race long before any other had even thought about starting :)

When you are playing a COTM the R&R mods and rules are not involved at all. You are playing standard, out of the box, Conquests, with the barbs fixed if you apply that patch.

I don't know R&R, but I've had a quick look at Double your Pleasure which was its predecessor. DyP and standard Civ are two different games, with different techniques needed to do well. You can't expect to use the same strategies successfully for both. I expect R&R and standard Conquests are equivalently different.

Whether it's confusing or not to try to play both depends on whether you can separate them in your mind and treat them as different games.

Re. your game, you won, didn't you? What's the problem? If you choose a non-military victory condition have to decide whether to sacrifice military strength in order to maximise research. If you do you may get kicked around a bit. Did you build mainly defensive units? If so you might want to try building more offensive units and using "active defence" - kill before you are killed. The AI respects offensive strength more than defensive, and is less likely to attack you in the first place if you have more offensive units.

Try a C/GOTM and see how you get on. Submit your games. Compare your approach with that of the leading players and you'll improve your Conquests play. Will that improvement rub off on your R&R play? I've no idea!

When I started playing XOTM I had primarily played Chieftan with just a few Warlord games under my belt. Now, due to XOTM games and reading everyone's spoilers, I've managed to win at Regent level. Plus now I only play at Regent level when playing normal games.

One thing I've found that really helps, is when players begin discussing in the pre-release thread pay attention to what victory condition everyone seems to be doing the most, and choose that one. I've found this works great as I have more players to learn from and figure out my mistakes or what I could have done different. This may sound odd but for now awards aren't worth achieving or even trying for, it's the learning from the game and other players that matters.

Even on the harder levels (for me that means Monarch and Emperor) I will at least attempt them. No matter what I go for a QSC submission.

BTW, my thanks to everyone here, I have learned more from the players and comparing their games with mine than from the War Academy. Don't get me wrong, the War Academy is great, but XOTM games and spoilers are easier to learn by for me. Thanks!

They're even further apart, considering in RAR you can sacrifice, the AI has Armies, 11 luxuries do have an effect etc.

I am not aware of any side running a 'RAR of the Month' game.
We tried to set up something like that for DyP about 2 years ago, but someone objected :mischief: .

However, I was thinking of trying it again; more in the way the SGotMs are run, with required victory conditions.

Feedback?
Is there interest at all?
Are there objections from the current GotM staff?

Well I think you know one player who loves RaR. ;)

Hmm, never played a SGOTM game, though I'm unsure I'm experienced enough too.

As I recall isn't RaR a little over 900 turns long? I believe this may be a bit much for a 'once a month' game. Of course I believe I may be talking about the expanded version, can't remember off hand.

RaR is a very nice mod and I plan on eventually taking time to enjoy it more (once I can get away from XOTM), so yes, I would be interested.

If it was played as a XOTM would it be a RaROTM?

I would be interested. Personally the tech tree scares me, but I think a trial game (regent/monarch) for a possible bimonthly/quarterly game would be nice :) .

It would be nice, i personally love that confusion. With so many techs, improvements and wonders its a lovely mess. But as MeteorPunch stressed it would have to be no more than a game every 3 months or so...

IMHO, Rise and Rule is still quite immature to play tournaments. I hope bugs will be fixed in the next version 1.03.

I dont know... I just started my first ever game, as the Zulu. I find myself (in regent) quite firm in the driving seat. Having 2/3 of "the continent" (the only land i know to exist. All but distroyed 2 civs i started with....

While in "normal" civ i do OK on regent, in RaR i seem to rock....
