GOTM 115 - second spoiler, Germany, The Middle Ages




Reading Requirements:

  2. Must be able to research an Industrial Age Technology.

OK, finally, here is a Middle Ages spoiler for GOTM115. Emperor level and Germany - perhaps you have a thrilling story of the Germans asserting themselves during the MA. :)
 
Goal - Spaceship Launch

MA lasts from 350BC-730AD
There was a fair amount of trading and war going on - MA cruised along at a nice clip. By the end of the MA I have a total of 5 GL for the game - two of them occur very close together, 700 AD & 730 AD. I am prolonging wars for the leader fishing and it seems to be working okay. Only problem is that one the enemies I am bleeding is France and I had hoped for them to make a good trading partner. Once we are at war, they fall of in research. Russia and Rome pick up the slack - for now. Aztecs buy the farm in 620 AD.

350 BC – Draw Feud as my free tech. No one else will give anything reasonable for republic so I hold it. Start on Engineering but don’t know what Russia will draw.
330 BC – Teo builds a barracks. Rush FP. 5/5 sword vs 3/3 Impi – win, -1hp – and GL (2)! Decide it is meant to be. I will make a sword army and hurry the destruction of the Aztecs. Build an army and load with swords.
310 BC – FP builds. Russia drew Mono. That’s very good. Advance Sword army towards Zulu lands.
290 BC – revolt. Draw 5 turns. Not bad.
230 BC – Sword army attacks Ulundi, kills 3/3 Impi flawlessly.
210 BC – Army takes Ulundi. Capture worker.
190 BC – Germany is a Republic. Ulundi riots when a horse appears on the horizon. 11/13 Sword army vs 5/5 horse – win but my army is mauled and horse only retreats. Make peace – they give Mono, I give 55gp. Give Rome Mono for Monarch, WM & 19gp. Start moving forces towards Aztec lands. Building MDI for Aztec destruction.
130 BC – Teo’s influence spreads out and pushes back Aztec borders.
110 BC – Feud is out. Everyone but Aztecs have it. They are still down construction.
30 BC – France builds the GW. DOW on the Aztecs. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 archer – flawless victory. 5 MDI advance on Cali. Army advances on Texcoco.
10 BC – Galley #2 sinks in deep water from a stupid move. Grr. Teo riots.
Battle for Cali – 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – win, -1hp from an archer. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – flawless win. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 archer – flawless win. Capture Cali and a settler. Garrison Cali with 3 MDI. Move slaves to road back to 1st core. Need roads bad. Move army next to Texcoco but will cross river before attacking.
10 AD – Battle to keep Cali – 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 sword – win, -1hp. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 sword – flawless win. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 archer – flawless win. Aztecs still have 1 sword on a mountain. 50/50 chance it kills my exposed MDI on hill.
Russia and France have Theo. That’s good. Keep going that way.
IBT – Aztec swords fails to kill my MDI and MDI promotes elite.
30 AD – Battle for Texcoco - 13/13 sword army vs 3/3 spear – win, -4hp. Advance MDI on Tlatelolco. Get galleys back into place. Russia gets top billing for size; I’m #2. Russia must be pretty big.
50 AD – HE builds. Berlin is at 20spt – a MDI every 2 turns.
Battle for Texcoco – 9/13 sword army vs 3/3 spear – win, -1hp.
70 AD – Battle for Texcoco – 8/13 sword army vs 3/3 spear – win, -1hp. Capture city and a settler. Aztecs have lost their iron.
Battle for Tlatelolco – 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – win, -1hp. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – flawless win. Capture city & 2 workers. May eventually need to disband.
4/4 sword vs 3/3 spear in the open – flawless victory.
IBT – Aztec sword again dies to MDI on hill.
90 AD – Teo riots again. Need a road really bad. 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 sword – win, -1hp.
110 AD – Advance 6 MDI against Tenochtitlan.
150 AD – 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 sword – win, -1hp. 6 MDI are parked outside Teno. Sword army also advances.
IBT – sword sallies out and dies against MDI.
170 AD – Engineering comes in. I’m not the first there. Trade it to Russia for Furs, WM & 21gp.
Battle for Teno – 4/4 MDI vs 4/4 spear – win, -3hp, promote. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – win, -1hp. 4/5 MDI vs 3/3 spear – win, -2hp. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – win, -1hp. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 Jag – win, -1hp. Capture city, oracle & 1 settler. Also capture ivory.

210 AD – Battle for Tlax – 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – win, -2hp, promote. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – flawless win. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – flawless win. 4/4 MDI vs 4/4 archer – win, redline, capture city & 1 settler.
Battle for Tlac – 10/13 army vs 3/3 spear – win, -3hp. Send MDI reinforcements.
230 AD – Battle for Tlac – 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spea r- flawless in, promote. Capture city & 1 slave.
I have 3 MDI outside of Xochicalco. Moving units for war against he Zulu.
IBT – archer kills one of my MDI.
250 AD – Battle for Xoc – 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – lose, -2hp, spear promotes. Of course, NOW they fail. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 spear – lose again, -2hp, spear promotes. Great. Give them peace for WM, 7gp – all they have.
I’ve got the lead on the histograph.
260 AD – shuffle units, lose my monopoly on Engineering. Up research on invention so it is due in 7t.
280 AD – Russia demands silks. My general tells me we are strong vs the Russians. Tell them to shove off . . . and they do.
IBT – see Celtic boat off my western shore.
310 AD – DOW on the Zulu. Capture 2 workers on our borders. Move 2 stacks into Zululand – one with my sword army, the other a stack of 5 units. The zulu have no resources so they should be pushovers.
320 AD – Battle for Hlobane – 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 Impi – win, -1hp. 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 Impi – win, -1hp. 5/5 sword vs 3/3 archer – win, -1hp. Capture Hlobane.
5/5 MI vs 3/3 archer in the open – flawless win. Army & stack advances on Zimbabwe.
IBT – archers move, not counterattack.
330 AD – 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 archer in the open – win, -2hp. Advance Army next to Zimbabwe.
4/5 MDI vs 3/3 archer in the open – win, -1hp. GL(3)! Send Hengest so he can rush a wonder. I’d prefer Bachs, but I’ll take Sun’s. Swap my Sun build for Leos. Start in on gunpowder now that invention is in. Don’t bother to trade because I’ll capture the GLB in the next turn or two.
IBT – a Russian horse kills a MDI & more units appear, including a LB. Grr. Invention is already out.
340 AD – Use GL to rush Suns. 13/13 army vs 3/3 Impi – win, -2hp. 3/5 MDI vs 4/4 LB – win, -1hp. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 Impi – lose, -2hp, impi promotes. Grrr. 3/5* MDI vs 4/5 horse – flawlessly forces a retreat.
IBT – Russian archer commits suicide against MDI.
350 AD – Army vs 4/4 Impi – win, -2hp. 2/5 MDI vs 1/5 horse – win. Capture Zimbabwe & GLB.
5/5 MDI vs 3/3 Impi – force a retreat, -2hp. 4/4 sword vs 1/3 Impi – flawless win.
IBT – bunch of archers/LB try to push past my army and take some hits for their troubles.
360 AD – learn Theo, Chiv, Education. So much for the GLB. Units are all standing so nice for leader fishing! 5/5 sword vs 3/3 archer – win but redline. Whatever. 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 archer – win, -1hp. Move army to cover.
Make peace with the Zulu for WM & 7gp.
I need to re-organize my 2nd core.
380 AD – abandon Calixtlahuaca into a settler to put it on RCP5 from the FP.
390 AD – rush a settler.
400 AD – abandon Tlateloco into a settler to put it at RCP 9.
IBT – Russia builds Sistines.
420 AD – Pick up Gunpoweder. Start Chem. Once again, one of the AI pulled gunpoweder the same round as me. Must have been France because Russia doesn’t have it and France is my only other rival. Can’t they go for something I’m not going for?
Since it is already out, give Russia Gunpowder for Furs, WM, 2gpt & 27gp. Now that my second core is building and my 1st core is maturing I hope I can start to out pace them at least in my chosen techs.
Furs do allow me to drop my lux and increase research so that chem is due in 9t.
IBT – Rome builds leos and I eat a 500 shield university in Berlin. Stupid, stupid.
450 AD – give Rome Gunpoweder for WM, 9gp & worker.
470 AD – Astronomy is now known to the AI. Chem in 3t.
500 AD – Finally I manage to pull a tech first – Chem. I think my 2nd core is finally paying off.
Rome and the Celts seem to be the richest people. I wouldn’t have thought that.
Give chem to Rome for Banking, Astro, 9gpt & WM. Give it to the Celts for Music, WM, 59gp, 19gpt. Russia gives up Incense, WM & 1gp. France has nothing real to give so Joan gets nothing. She doesn’t even have banking yet.
Start building bachs. All the trade allow me to drop my lux to 0% and crank science for Metal in 5t @ -25gpt.
520 AD – rush a settler to finish filling my 2nd core’s 2nd ring.
530 AD – Abandon Tlaxcala into a settler.
550 AD – learn Metal, start MT. Hope that the AI pulls physics soon. No one has anything worth trading. DOW on the Aztecs.
IBT – 2 Aztec archers suicide against knights.
560 AD – 4/4 knight vs 4/4 spear – win, -1hp. 3/4 knight vs 4/4 spear – flawless retreat. Knights retreat to heal.
Give Zulu Music for WM & 28gp. Give Rome Metal for WM, 39gpt, 150gp.
590 AD – the AI seems to be floundering. I’m hoping they can keep pulling a few techs?
600 AD – Battle for Xoc – 4/4 knight vs 4/4 spear – lose, - 2hp. Grr. 4/4 knight vs 3/3 spear – win, redline. Retreat to heal.
Navigation is available. Russia has the best deal – metal for Nav, WM & 72gp. Give Celts silk for 50gp & WM. Give silk to Rome for 46gp & WM.
IBT – Russia demands Salt. That’ll be the day. I see I’m strong vs them. Tell them to shove off. Russia declares. Okay.

630 AD – 1st Core is cleared of Jungle. DOW on Zulu. 5/5 sword vs 4/4 archer – win, -1hp. Capture 2 slaves. 4/4 cav vs 3/3 LB – flawless win. Move army & stack against Zulu.
640 AD – 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 Impi – win, -3hp. 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 Impi – flawless win. Capture Isandhlwana.

660 AD – 5/5 MDI vs 4/4 Impi – win, -3hp. 4/4 cav vs 3/3 impi – flawless win. 4/4 MDI vs 3/3 impi – win, -1hp. Take Bapedi and the chokepoint. Set to walls.

670 AD – looks like France might try to attack me. Crazy.
IBT – sure enough, the French declare. They lose 1 knight to a 5/5 cav ad a knight retreats after attacking my sword army. They move 2 MDI to attack.
680 AD – retreat my army to heal completely. It was not safe from attack at 9/13 army. Rush walls at Bapedi. 4/4 Cav vs 4/4 MDI – win, -2hp, promote elite. 3/5 Cav vs 3/3 MDI – win, -1hp.
690 AD – defense of Bapedi – 4/4 cav vs 4/4 knight – flawless win.
IBT – France loses a knight to a 4/4 MDI in a walled city. ToG comes in. Start Mag, due in 4t.
700 AD – defense of Bapedi – 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 MDI – win -3hp. 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 MDI – flawless win. 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 MDI – flawless win. GL(4). 4/4 Cav vs 3/3 MDI – win, -2hp, promote elite. All of France’s Units are dead.
Hurry a musket in Teo and then move GL to Teo to rush Bach’s next turn.
710 AD – rush bachs. Swap bach pre-build to cops, due in 1t.
720 AD – build Cops. That starts my GA. Fine by me! Bach’s builds. 5/5 cav vs 3/3 MDI – flawless win.
Celts build Magellan. I hold the tech trade for one turn to make sure all the cascades are done. Only thing left is Military Academy and Newtons but those techs are not known yet.
IBT – Russia lands a knight & LB by Berlin. Yeah, that’s going to work. France lands a MDI by Tenochtitlan. France also moves a stack of MDI towards Bapedi.
730 AD – Berlin: 4/4 cav vs 4/4 knight – win but redline. 4/4 cav vs 3/3 LB – flawless win, promote elite. Teno: 4/4 cav vs 3/3 MDI – win -1hp. Bapedi: 5/5 MDI vs 3/3 MDI – win, -2hp. 5/5 sword vs 3/3 MDI – lose, -1hp. 5/5 cav vs 3/3 MDI – win, -3hp. 5/5 cav vs 2/3 MDI – win, -3hp. GL(5). Geez. Change Newton’s build to a cav and rush GL back to Berlin.
