pre-release info Gameplay Mechanic Discussion: Ages

pre-release info
If the player has xxx gold at the end of age 1, will they start age 2 with the same amount? If not, how much?

Maybe you start with the same amount of gold, but there are gold resources in the New World in Era 2 and as soon as someone discovers them, the value of gold is devalued and the gold:hammer exchange rate goes up?

We got some info about the advanced start from the last video, but I did not notice anything age specific.
Should this info be worked in, what do you think?
Definitely should... the current "Legacy bonus" shown is only the Advanced Start... the regular "advancement' Legacy bonuses were shown in the previous livestream.

Maybe not the most important thing and forgive me if this has been mentioned before but I wouldn’t mind an option in settings where you have the game change the names of your existing settlements when you switch to a new Civ as you switch from Antiquity to Exploration and again when going into Modern

Just so your Spanish cities aren’t Greek anymore

The player should have complete control over how the names of their civ and cities change through the ages.

I think this would be highly confusing to the player, if it happened automatically everywhere. You would not know anymore where your cities are, or if you plan to wage war, where the enemies cities are.
I could see a slow transition though, where names change gradually, and not all at the same time. And maybe even event-based, that you get an active choice.

The way I would see it

At Age Transition...after you choose your new civ (ie package of uniques)
1.you choose what your civ name+city list will be for the new age (same as last time/adopt your new one/ get something totally left field)**
2.Any of your Cities that stay Cities ask if they should change their name... if they don't match the new City List)

Whenever you upgrade a Town to a City, if it doesn't match your current City list (either because it was settled in a previous era or because it was conquered from another civ), then it asks if you want to change the name to match the current City list**

You can always customize the names as well

**These should be Narrative events with a small lump sum Culture to your Unique civic (change)/lump sum Happiness to next celebration (stay same) as rewards
