I know it's going to be announced any time soon what GOTM18 is going to be, but I thought I try to see just how wrong I can be.

I'm going to guess that it'll be:

Emperor level.
Egypt (Hatshepsut).
A strange map type - maybe Oasis (!). Or failing that, an Arid Pangea.

We'll see . . . :mischief:

Hmm. Anything's possible, of course, but Bismarck at Monarch has been done in GOTM08.
Washington has not been done, yet.
Hope you're right. I think I'd prefer Washington and his Financial, Organised to Hattie and her Creative, Spiritual.

I'll go with Emperor, Genghis Khan on an arid pangea map with raging barbarians.

The only part of that I'm reasonably confident of is Emperor based on the pattern of Prince/Monarch/Emperor in GOTMS 2, 3, 4; 7, 8, 9; 12, 13, 14; and 16, 17, -- 18?

I also think it will be a leader we haven't played before.

Ohhh I love guessing games :D

Count me in !!! With the following guess:

Game settings:
Civilization: French
Rivals: 7
Difficulty: Emperor
Map: Continents
Mapsize: Large
Climate: Nomal
Water level: Normal
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: Epic
Options: <none>
Victory Conditions: all enabled

I thought GOTM8 was Frederick? If it was Bismark, then I'm guessing Frederick this time :p

Mapsize will be Standard, they only do Large when they have 6 weeks to finish a game.

Now that I remember that GOTM17 was monarch, I agree the next game will be Emperor...perhaps Pangaea, but I don't think so, GOTM16 was Pangaea. Perhaps Archipelago, since that hasn't been done on the vanilla version of GOTM in quite a while.

Emporor, and I am guessing an essentially land map (great planes, highlands, or something similar). Have we done Cathy yet for a leader? I will guess her.

I guess, Hatty will take the ball

Game settings:
Civilization: Egypt (Hatty)
Rivals: 6
Difficulty: Immortal
Map: Custom_Continents
Mapsize: Normal
Climate: Arid
Water level: Low
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: Epic
Options: Permanent Peace
Victory Conditions: Cultural

NO WAR, make love. It's spring anyway:D

And serious: Let's try to play with some definite victory conditions, like e.g. cultural or space race. May be it would give a chance against those warmongering domination/conquest monsters in the first places of the every game results. Does anybody have similar opinion?

@ImperialGuard
Incredibly detailed guess !! You stand to win big if all elements of that accumulator come up ;)

There's a bunch of leaders that haven't been used yet in vanilla GOTM:
Washington
Mao
Hattie
Victoria
Louis XIV
Frederick
Asoka
Genghis
Peter
& Cyrus - but he's been used in WOTM.

@Ramzes XIII
Interesting thought. Like they have started doing in the SGOTMs?
Maybe not quite as far as they have gone, like getting war-rival Gandhi into Space as in the latest one !!
I like it!

Can I hear our organiser quickly shuffling things around so that none of our guesses are correct? ;)
Probabably no need at all - Ha!

I don't believe there's ever been a GOTM that didn't start in the Ancient age... how about, say, a Medieval start on Marathon?

Or perhaps a locked-in war or peace with another civ? Or set up as teams of 2 or more civs working together? Imagine being Gandhi and having Monty on your team...

I also would like to see large maps tried, or perhaps a Normal-size Pangaea/Continents Noble level map that is overcrowded with 10 rivals, and you have a UU that doesn't come into use in battle until late (e.g. Roosevelt), or at all (Gandhi).

The permutations are endless, so I would likely be correct to assume that none of my predictions will happen anytime soon.

I, too, feel pretty confident it is going to be Emperor. It was a while since we had an Emperor game. Personally I have never won on Emperor level, but I am ready for that now since I am regularly beating Monarch.

I also hope it will be Epic speed. WOTM8 and its normal speed made that game feel very awkward for me.

Yes.
Why do I get the feeling that Ainwood will pull the wrappers off to reveal . . . a Deity game. Arrgh!

@The Mad Swede
I think I'm a bit short of your standard. I win sometimes on monarch (perhaps 50%) Emperor is still a big scary beast to me, but one that I think I might just take down if I can just get a good enough swing at it . . .

Deity, by the way, is just an unbeatable Mammoth to me. My spears and arrows cause no damage to it. I can lassoo it round the neck, but it'll just pull me all the way over to the horizon. :(

Whatever the game, I predict that Ainwood will kick off the pre-game discussion at a time when I still haven't finished GOTM17 and have played just one turn of WOTM08. Then I'm going to really feel under pressure to catch up on my GOTM entries...

I'd like to see a Terra map.
We should know real soon, right?

Well, the game starts on Tuesday (I think), so the pre-game discussion should be under way any time. We always feel like we need 4 or 5 days to totally do it to death before we start, right? :)

It will be Korea on Chieftain.

Shoot me down if I am wrong but isn't Korea a Warlords civ???
I hope it is on Chieftan, get it over and done with quickly will help catch up on other things!!!

I'd like to see a Terra map

Me too, I love these maps, gives it a sort of proper context of history, setting of for and settling in the new world, etc.
I think match it up with a tough(ish) difficulty level to make the crowded start interesting and think we could have one of best GOTM's for a while!!!

Am a bit worried about the lack of action from Ainwood though, is normally announced on 25th if I remember correctly??? Maybe Helen has overworked him and he is struggling with fatigue!!!

You mean like how we all compare starting strategies and city placement spots, and I spend hours working out what I think is going to be my approach, cheerfully explain the details of what I'm going to do in the pre-game discussion, and then on the 1st of the month I open the game, move the warrior or scout, and immediately totally change my mind about all my plans :mischief:

 That's the one!
It's also the time when, through practice and repeat practice, I learn an opening sequence that will work beautifully on a map that is completely unlike the one in the GOTM - except for the initial 20-or-so tiles.
