Goverments

I used to use Democracy exclusively, but I recently started using Communism and I realized the full extent of the overwhelming production availble to you with this Government. I still use Republic through the Middle Ages, before Communism, when I can get tanks. I then load up on tanks and slaughter my remaining enemies.

The hardest thing to do is always the funniest for me. I use Democracy all threw the modern age and I am always at war during the modern age. Hence the name Hardest thing. This is generally on Monarch difficulty.

Doesn't Facism have the best worker bonus?

Yup. Did someone say Republic has less corruption than Democracy? Last I read, that wasn't the case... (Democracy: Minimal, Republic: Nuiscance)

I prefer Communism, probably because I always play huge maps, and often have cities on two or more islands.
It's a decent government for making enough money to either build a great military, or pull ahead in science. You can't rush build thing with money, so I usually just build a courthouse in the small towns and switch to Wealth until they need an aquaduct. Works well for me. Besides, it's the preferred government of the Incans, my favorite Civ.

If I'm not mistaken Republic has support for the following number of units:

Town=1, City=3, Metropolis=4

It is for this reason that I ussually go with a Republic Government. There is still some unit support yet minimal corruption. Before I use to stick with Monarchy for quite some time because of the valuable 2, 4, 8 unit support, but typically corruption gets too high when playing on levels above regent so it has been Republic lately.

Does your answer change depending on what civ you choose? Would you stay in Monarchy if you were say Commercial? Or would being commercial make you love republic even more? Does being Commercial make Communism much more appealing? I ask because my war-mongering experiance during a republic is none, I have had the anti- republic bug since I got Civ3 because of Civ2... I find if I am in a peaceful builder situation and I don't have Dem I will go Republic, but usually I am the Boring Despotism, Monarchy, Democracy, finnally Communism for a war I know I can win and Fascism if I think I need the worker, huge support help(which has been once or twice...) I have very rare experience with the Commercial trait(I like agricultural and industrial, maybe religious/scientific) and I just wanted to hear from more experienced players about this subject...

At the start of the game, I always become surprisingly rich with despotism, but when I switch to republic, It goes all the way down to -20 gold per turn!!! :shakehead

Probably too many units to support per city, cities are too small, and not enough improvements such as marketplace. I don't switch to Republic until I have a few large cities and am not at war. Otherwise Monarchy is far better this early in the game. Remember that with Monarchy units "force" unhappy citizens to be content, so you may need temples and/or luxuries for Republic to be worth it.

I just recently switched to conquests and from what I can see Im well on my way to winning my first domination victory on monarch (since the switch). Im playing on a large map, Contentents, with a wet environment. Normally I stick with Demo or Republic for as long as I can, but this has been a pretty bloody game so far. So of course the BIG choice came. I decided to try out Facism for the first time. Communism is good, but in a world full of not much more then Jungle and Wetlands, the better workers have made the difference. It doesnt take long to reduce the poulations of rival cities (when you have at least 10 artillary and 20 bombers hitting it every turn) and I havent had one city flip on me the entire war. (in some turns when I was making REALLY good progress I'd take 5-8 cities in one turn) So I have to say even if it's not the best all the time, Facisim has some really good points to it in a total war.

I am living proof that u can win with "Monarch" as your government. I am a Monarch + player. With Monarch I can war all game if I wish with no war weariness, my hurry method is cash, my feudal vassals pay for my troops, up too three military troops in each city (shuts up the populace) and I can draft 2 units from any city with 7 + population. It's just simply great.
Draw back - out of sight out of mind. The furhter the cities form your FP or your capitol - the more the corruption and waste. But in conquest you can fix this with police & engineers.
Bottom line: "It's good to be the king"-Mel Brooks
