In the governor menu, there are a number of automation choices. I only ever use the governor to manage citizen moods. Do you use any of the other options, and to what extent?

I don't use them. Even if you tell the governor to focus on food, it'll focus on production if the city growth stalls (i.e., size 6, size 12).

Used to use them, haven't used them in quite a bit. Really, if you're at regent or above, MM your cities....it'll go better for you.

I use governors to manage citizens moods. Lately, however; I have been turning them off in key cities to increase or decrease production. Like when you are building wonders or using palace pre-build to amass shields for a wonder. :)

I only turn him on, and immediately off to help with remicromanagement after a gov't change.

I'm trying out Monarch and I have decided to play the entire game with the governors off. I used to have them manage moods because I was terrible at keeping up with civil disorders. But that always bothered me to have it turn off just because I want to move around some citizens. I'm liking the governors turned off now.

I have used governors for citizen mood, since I keep forgetting to check. I have actually noticed a difference when checking off emphasize this or that. In despotism, this rarely matters, however it can have an effect. I never, ever use governors to decide building options.

I use them in 2 instances when they can do the job better than you -

On all citys I have "emphasise production" on. This means that the turn the city grows, when it cannot store any more food anyway, it has the highest production possible. This is especially important for setler factorys.

When I have captured a city, it usually has close to all the citizens revolting. Even if you set any that are not revolting to entertainers, then the city may riot next turn if you quell many people. If you get the guvnor to manage moods in the city, it will not.

I only use the Governers to set the city moods, but I realise that they do make huge silly mistakes such as empahsizing food when the city is at maximum. It's just that I can't be bothered to check up on my citizens. Thats the making of a good war-mongering dictator.....
