Summary

America is pretty dead. We lost a few workers to a barb uprising. Not much else of note.

That broke Lincoln’s back. He now gives us all 3 remaining cities +31g for peace. Thanks buddy :D

Ottomans take the undefended Philadelphia and raze it. They kill the 1/5 horse in Chicago and capture it. Redline an elite horse and force another to retreat.

T10: 550BC Lose a horse, kill a spear at Kafa. MM Copenhagen off forest and onto roaded grass. Workers near the town finish with BG and move to hill.

Well, I thought that was going well for a second there. We should be ready to hammer New York and Chicago in a turn or 2. Kafa is a PITA as it’s right in the way of our road.

Workers on the Road are trying to straighten in out to cut down on the time it takes to reach the Ottomans.

There is a barb camp somewhere SW of Kafa, probably near the white-topped mountain.

Bergen could benefit from a cultural expansion and an aqueduct, but we need horses while Rey and Copen finish infrastructure so I waited.

Mayan are the only ones who know Fuedalism. We can do a careful steal now if desired.

Ok, punish Osman a bit and make peace, that's my idea to get out of this mess.

Pre-turn - Get a few more gold by using ocean-tiles, without affecting builds.

Make peace with Aztecs, give them Republic for 28gpt and 274g, throw in ROP for good measure and they are polite.

Sell CoL to Egypt for their 88g and ROP and they are cautious.

30% luxtax for 3 turns after we lost warhappiness.

We have enough for a safe steal, but 1180g is a lot and we need to rush lots of stuff. Instead I research Lit at max possible, 70% and we'll get it in 6 turns. With no iron, no pikes or no knights and we have to thread carefully here. Plus, we can't afford a fight with Maya too, we might get dogpiled up on.

Rush aqueduct in Reykjavik for 184g.

We are already playing 32gpt on mil. support, disband the conscript warrior in Trondheim, shortrush a worker for 32g and swap to horse due next turn. I intend to use that army, as we have nothing better to fill it with, it will be a horse-army.

Use the rest of our gold to rush walls in Houston and Washington.

530bc - We build an aqueduct, 2 horses and 2 walls.

Horse take a peek in to Ottoman territory and see heaps of turkish delight, we are outnumbered here. Fill army with 2 horses and move it towards the front.

Cut the roads betwwen us and Ottomans, they have a bunch of archer and spears coming.

Move a couple of workers back to do some chopping.

Take out barbcamp for 25g.

510bc - Inca completes the Lighthouse.
Maya starts Sun Tzu.

Rush barracks in our American towns.

490bc - Incense is online, lux down to 20%. Lit in 2 turns, so I swap some cities to prebuilds for libs.

470bc - We take Kafa without losses. Pretty useless town, but I keep it.

Kill a spear and 2 archer, get a leader. We only have 7 cities, so no FP yet. I keep the leader for now.

Kill another archer, a superspear retreats 2 horses and redlines a third before he dies.

Still a dozen units around, so I rush spears in our outback towns.

450bc - Maya knows Engineering.

Lose a horse killing a spear and 4 archers. I love horses when they retreat.

Army goes 10/13, killing 3 archers.

430bc - Lose spear IT.

We learn Lit - Mono with scientist for now.

Ottomans will talk, but doens't take straight up peace.

Kill 2 spears and 6 archers, no losses.

Our army is still weak compared to them, we need to hurt them more.

Spend some gold on short-rushing (temples) to get libs faster.

410bc - Kill 2 spears and 2 archers.

390bc - We take New York and 4 slaves.

Build army with our leader, but it's out of reach to kill something. Elite horse kills spear and we have another leader? This is silly.

No FP to build, dunno then what to do with the leader. Is FP ten cities? I save the leader in Washington, so next player can choose what to do with him. Rush court in Washington?

I make peace with Ottomans for Engineering in return for Lit and 177g. I tried to get 2 cities for peace, but that was only close. Maybe I should've waited.

Turn up research on Mono to 80% - 20 turns. We have some libs built in the next two turns.

370bc - 3 libs built, Mono dropped to 15 turns, but at -28 with 376g in the bank. It will be tight.

350bc - Trondheim got its library too and Mono dropped to 12 turns.

We can make peace with Inca and Rome for techs, too bad they don't have any gpt. I don't want any surprise alliances though.

I suggest we rush a court in Washington with the leader.

hm, I am a bit stumped here - we are researching Mono, but need to get to Zerks and faster ships to hurt AIs before they have Muskets all over
We need to use our units as they are costing much upkeep, but have 8 peace to go with Abe and 18 with Ottos.

This will take some thinking.

Can I by our rules abandon Kafa and rebuild it? Or abandon it to keep another conquered city?
 
@carlos -> we can have 8 cities in the MA. you may disband and replace at will :) Not sure why we're doing mono instead of invention, but maybe the thought is that we'll buy or steal it? berzerkers don't require resources so I don't see the logic either, maybe gozpel can explain.
 
Feudalism is the most expensive tech in the beginning of the era, that's why. It would've been different if I tried to steal it, but I didn't want Maya against us as we surely would've been dogpiled. And I needed the gold for better purposes. We get our GA when we are ready and we should build up our little civ before we haul ourselves into a golden age that would be wasted on small towns. Remember, we can only have 8 cities for now and they should be at least pop 6 before we get GA.

My thoughts (somewhat hazy as always) was to get to Mono first and then broker. We only researched for a couple of turns, so we can switch it off if that is preferred and try for another steal later on.

Another thing! In XCC games we will need culture, that's why built those libraries. We will also need temples, cathedrals etc. I've seen cities flip over long distance and we can't afford that.
 
In XCC games you want culture, but every building, from a library to a stock exchange, takes on greater significance.

The biggest problem in these games is the limited amount of land you own. The more culture you have the more you stop the AI from showing up trying claim an odd spot near your borders.

More land = more potential future resources.

I also understand your Mono plans, though in seriously doubt we get it first.

Kafa is a bother, I think we do better with +2 GOld atm than eternally slow growth there, so I set it on a taxman.

Then I have an idea: I kick the Ottos out and they declare. :mwaha: (how I miss that smiley). Now we have a use for all the troops while we research and grow.

(to explain why I raze: the flip risk is extreme and I see no short-term solution to that - we must rather take Chicago, which draws our armies the OTHER way. That means re-take risk is high - no thanx!)

We are strong enough so Trondheim comes off Horses and builds - a settler (to join to captured cities or replace one if needs be. I simply think it is a good idea to have one handy, so I skim one now).

I expect Chicago to fall in 2 so I will buy a worker then to abandon Kafa. This means we can finish one prebuild project there, but I see no attractive option (troop or ship).

Aztecs have Lit by now - time to sell around as I can see the demands coming:

Peace and 42 Gold from the Inca, only 2 Gold from Maya and 4 from Egypt (but both go one up in mood). Dogpile danger lessened :)
Ami give us a worker for Philo - why not?
