Sell Monotheism to Aztecs for Feudalism, and 18+9gpt. They are still at war with Maya so can't trade it away to the big dog, and everybody else has only chump change.

When I call on Smoke discover he has Invention and will only offer a pittance for Monotheism and adding everything we have only makes him "maybe-ish" on Invention.

Otto offers wines and his treasury (24g+6gpt) for Monotheism. The extra cash can finance our research on Theology and cut our luxury impost while Trondheim builds the Heroic epic (more culture than a cathedral for the same cost in shields). Decide that Invention can wait a while and start researching Theology at maximum on the way to Astronomy.

Cleo comes calling and demands Republic. Suggest she leave the way she came in and she declares war.

Maya start the Great Library.

Inca land a archer/settler pair near the silks and a Turkish pair scuttles away.

In 90BC Julius pays a call wanting a peace treaty and 140g. Peddle your monkey somewhere else, Julius.

In 50BC Rome and Ottomans learn Invention and Ottomans found Salonika on the silks while the Inca pair heads east.

Rome lands a horseman at Trondheim who is impaled on the spear of a newly produced horseman from Rekyavik.

In 30AD TurKish troops infest Ammurica, Inca finish the Great Lib and start SunT's and everbody else with Invention starts Leo's.

Not much to report in 50AD. One more mined plains at Trondheim and we are at 20spt. The Heroic Epic is due in 4 and Theology is due in 4 at +3gpt to the treasury. Invention is getting spread around. We should have Theology at monopoly or at least duopoly. That being the case Invention will be significantly devalued and we should be able to pick it up plus all the cash.

Note: this is going so well I had to check Seedbeast to make sure it's Deity. :)

In another ten turns our core towns will be size eight or better and the gringo lands well developed and even productive. Go leader fishing against the Ottos and/or Americans in time to build caravels and send Berserk armies on the rampage overseas.

Pre-flight – 50 AD – MM Bergen for a three turn galley factory. We need ships for our berserks!

Early – A Roman horse is dropped off next to our capitol. We place his head on a pike at the entrance to our harbor. Both Caesar and Cleopatra demand a city for peace. Oh, what a grave error the two of you are making. Have you never heard of the legendary berserkers?

Produce a granary, a horse, a galley.

Middle – Theology =>Education I sell Theology to the Incas for Invention, 73G & 19gpt. Sell Theology to the Mayas for 17G & 45 gpt. Kill another Roman horse. Upgrade two archers. Kill a War Chariot. Because we can, and we have the armies, I decide that Abe has become a pain in the neck and declare war.

Produce the Heroic Epic, an archer, a galley, and two berserks.

Late – Load up our first galley full of berserks and sail for Egypt. Atlanta is burned to the ground and St Louis follows the same turn. We capture a catapult and a slave.

The second berserk razes the city. Crank up the science. Education due in six with positive cashflow.

After Action – Cleo has seen the error of her ways and will now give us straight up peace. It is too late for that my dear. We probably want to sail in pairs of galleys (four berserks.) With sets of four berserks we should be able to take a city a turn, well at least once they are within range.

I always prefer to take 3 Galleys, as occasional losses (e.g. if oyu raze and the Zerk is exposed) then do not mean you have to go back ;)

Our Zerk hops back on board his ship to rest and await more of his brothers to arrive.

I dial up Caesar. We come to peace terms that net us Gunpowder for Theology, 146g and 6gpt. I sell Theology to Aztecs and Ottomans for some g and gpt.

I notice that Maya have beat us to Education, so I drop science so we get +57gpt with it still due in 3.

Also, we have native saltpeter.

IT- Trondheim riots, I forgtot about lost War Happieness. I fix all others.

Summary

The Egyptian coastline is filled with smoldering rubble, just as it should be. Our second core is developing nicely. Our research on Banking looks like it could very well pay off nicely, as we should be able to easily get Astronomy and Chemistry once we get it.
 
note to team: i got housework that must be done tonight and i cannot play my 10 till tomorrow. if the next player wants to play tonight, we can swap. otherwise, it'll be another 24+hrs for me.
 
Preflight check: Things look good, but sure to slow down without a GA. MM between Houston and NY to save some time on the ‘duct in Houston. MM Bergen to get a little more growth but zerk still in 2T.

Galleys only have 1 movement point. Disband the city, netting 8 workers. Disband 7 of them and load 1 onto the galleys for future use.

Man, we should really have a fleet of ships trailing the zerks, picking up all these workers. I’m disbanding them so Egypt can’t get them back but it hurts like hell.

IBT: Egypt WC kills ¾ zerk on the ruins of Alexandria. They also drop off a sword and warrior next to Trond.

Washington: zerk -> zerk; Bergen riots due to lack of gold from GA, scroll ahead to prevent Copenhagen from doing the same.

Pre-turn - Cites are in a mess as always when I get the game from grahamiam ;) Just kidding.

I sell Education to Aztecs for 3gpt, 27g and spices.
I buy ivory from Maya for 15gpt and 11g.

I can lower luxtax to 10% and up science to 80% to cut a turn on Physics. And we're at 14gpt positive. Thanks for luxes, use them!

I remember the comment on rushing the aqueduct in New York and do so for 80g.
Upgrade a galley to caravel.

Now, the war on Egypt. What do we want with that, we already crippled them enough to give up 4 cities? I make peace for 4 towns, which I immediately abandon.

Next time we take on Egypt, we should have a settler with us, so we can grab the iron and fur spot on the N side of their island.

Our next cities should be in Ottoman lands, or at least 2 of them. 2 more towns can be allocated to other areas.

460AD - I start banks in our first 4 towns.

Start moving back our ships from Egypt, the leader might be good for FP.

Play tag with 2 Ottoman settler pairs, I will block them in so we have some free slaves when we give them a go.

470AD - We lose wines from Ottomans, I don't renew it and turn up luxes to 20%.

480AD - Renew peace with Romans.

490AD - Some civs knows Navigation and Inca starts Magellans.

Up research to 80%, Physics due in 4t at -14gpt, 86g in the bank.

500AD - Here comes a third turk settler, lots of future slaves here :)

510AD - I take the opportunity to trade our WM for some TM's, which reveals that Maya and Rome are monsters.

520AD - I squeezed out a couple of settlers for rearranging Ottoman lands later and will join 2 american worker to New York to fix the loss of pop.

I take a look at the tech-tree, there's nothing else for us to research atm after Physics next turn, so I will take Metal for whatever and max possible research to MT.

530AD - Someone is building Smiths.

We learn Physics.

Trade it to Maya for Metallurgy, Navigation, 14gpt, 47g and WM.
They already know MT and so does Rome! Crap!
Sell Physics to Rome for what they will give as they must be researching it already, we get WM, 16gpt and 316g.

I wasn't willing to pay 135gpt for MT and had to take a break to contemplate the two techs remaining of the era.

Magnetism or ToG? no reason to research a known tech as we "could" buy it if we were desperate. We can take out Ottomans without that.

So I choose ToG at 80%, due in 14 turns. That will go quicker when the banks finish in a couple of turns.

I was almost tempted to research at 90%, with a bunch of scientists, it could be done in 10 turns. But this will suffice.

That damn FP, I keep on forgetting we need 10 cities for that and be in next era, so I set up stuff for next player. I think everyone should look at the map and decide where the FP should be located. Maybe Salonika will be better and removal of Denizli can make things better. (Hey gozpel, stop it, we're not there yet!)

Upgrade a few galleys to caravels.

540AD - Inca demands Physics, get the finger and we are at war.

We complete 3 banks and a market.

Warhappiness is great stuff, we can research at 90% now, ToG in 11t.

550AD - Aztecs demands Astronomy, I tell them to bugger off, and they do.

Maya demands TM and 31g. Sure my friend, here you go. :) Choose your friends. :lol:

Copenhagen finish my builders galore with a bank.

I have to move out some units from Otto's territory, as their border expands.

I played around with the 3 settler pairs all the time, just move the zerk E or W.

2 zerks attack Incan town (name forgotten) near Washington, first one dies against pike and second raze the town for a slave.

When I think of it, we should attack Ottos when we get in to next age, and raze and replace. At least 2 towns. I want Salonika where it is, but Denizli should be moved one W to the hills. It will be a powerhouse one day if we build FP in Denizli.

There are some units that can be moved, like the army in the first core.

No, we needed 8, and it was build in Washington, iirc ;)
 
Sorry, your memory isn't as good as it used to be :) I actually opened the save again to have a look and there is no FP. And no option to build it.

I think we discussed that before and Carlos? rushed a courthouse when we couldn't build FP.
