Whack a barb camp in the tundra hoping to promote a 'zerk, no joy.

In 620 decide it's time to rid the island of Inca so send the horsemen army to wipe out his little settlement south of Washington and a boatload of zerks to nail a barb camp in the tundra.

In 630 attack the little town and kill a spear, another is left in the garrison.In the meantime Inca has learned ToG just as we do. It's time to take the war to Inca. Raze a couple of his one horse towns across the strait and maybe we'll get more than a kiss at the Peace Treaty. Accordingly shift the caravels to the east coast for a little dash across the straits. Set research at Magnetism to minimum.

We are staring at what I refer to as the XCC wall. With only eight cities we are having a hard time economically keeping up in research with techs costing more than 2000 beakers. And right now we are all dressed up with nowhere to go.

In 640 destroy the Inca town in the tundra.

In 650 the Inca Expedition sets sail from Reykjavik and Houston. It will be facing pikes but no muskets and the terrain is so rough it is unlikely Pachuti will be able to reinforce. Caravels will reach the assembly point in 2 and be in position to take and burn Vitcos in 3. If all goes well Inca will have learned something useful and we can take it out of his hide. And get on with the Ottoman war.

Pre-flight – 650 AD – Cleopatra quickly recovered. We have a serious case of WW. Bump lux up 10%. We can buy magnetism at the moment, but it would cripple us. We’ll want that just before the ottoman war.

IBT – Build two zerks and the Romans complete Bachs

670 Start planning for the Ottoman war.
@ Vitcos – Kill the lose defending spear and raze it.
@ Arequipa – kill the two defending spears, lose a zerk. and raze the city. Still can’t get anything decent in a treaty.

IBT – Egypt an Rome sign a MA against the Aztecs.

680 - @ Atico – Kill the spear and raze it. Operation Abbot is complete. Admiral Bugs evaluates the situation and calls a council of war among his ship captains. “send an envoy to see what we can learn in exchange for peace.” They won’t give us anything of value.

IBT – Cleo builds another city on our south coast.
Mayans declare on Rome. A sword is dropped off by Chicago.

690 - Kill the dropped off sword. Note that the Incan workers are wearing overalls.

IBT – Three more Incans are dropped off.

700 - The cost of magnetism would be 1069G & 59GPT from the Maya. I look at what a steal would cost (1066G) and decide that would be worth a war. We succeed, steal magnetism and we enter a new age. Julie doesn’t have any IA techs and Smoke only has nationalism.

We press on with the war. @ Huanaco – We kill the two defending spears and keep it, temporarily. Also kill the invaders.

IBT – Build a zerk. Mayans build Newton’s

710 – Whack a settler pair. Sell Physics and 6 gpt to Cleo for iron, furs and WM. Lux rops to 10% and we gain 11 gpt. Upgrade a horse to a knight.

IBT – Rome signs in Osman against the Mayans. Rome signs a peace treaty with the Aztecs.

720 - I decide to take a city for peace. The only other thing we can get is Music Theory. Berserkers don’t sing! This way we can build the FP. I also get 56G & 8 GPT. Of course we lose all that war happiness. Lux up 10%.

730 – :smoke: Then I forgot to hurry the market in New York last turn, spend 88G getting it done right now.

740 – Rush the FP in New York with the leader. Upgrade two muskets in preparation for war.

IBT – Renew our ivory deal with the Mayans for 16gpt.
Build the FP. The FP is worth 23 gpt to our economy.

750 I demand that Osman remove his forces so he declares war. I abandon Huanuco Pampa and Chuito since there are Ottoman units right next to them and they are undefended.

We keep the city… for now. Canute runs to New York.

@ Riza – Lose a zerk killing two muskets.

@ Aydin – Army kills two muskets and it is ours.

@ Konya – Kill the three muskets and take the city.

I should of course have waited to abandon the two cities until the end of the turn so we could have built an army. :smoke:

After Action – Moved a stack next to Salinka. The fast movers are fortified. I also brought a settler a long to raise and replace.

Made an error and placed two muskets in Aydin and none in Konya. Use the leader for an army. We may want to save the army for cavs.

We may want to plan the best locations for our new cities and raze and replace as necessary. Otherwise we’ll have a huge flip risk. I refuse to do that now with all the :smoke: moves I just made. My apologies to the team for my ineptness.

I say grahamiam is right and Ottomans are dead.
I also say Rome is the next target (before Zerks become useless vs Infantry!). Cut them down a bit... Same is true for Maya, they need a coastline shave.

I will let all Knights finish, then shift back to Zerks.



preturn: adjust happiness in NY, Chicago, Houston, MM Wash to food loss and bank in 1 not 2.

(1) Note the Otto runaway settler, mark him for zerking.
Trond finishes a Knight and will be skimmed a worker (for now, maybe settler?)

the settler is taken (LBM takes no HP off Zerk) and I get an idea for a free lux for a few - worker will go to the gems and colonize. As the gems are connected through Rome and Inca this will give us Gems until the borders there expand.

Horse army kills three Muskets, 2 Zerks 2 Knights finish the business. We capture 3 settlers :whip: Raze the town as we will refound and can always use more slaves (2).

@ Riza:
zerk promotes, another takes the city. I keep it, which turns out to be s good decision as there are 2 LBM beyond it that could kill the zerk. Ship moves in, Zerks kill LBM. :p Built the army, now what to do with the new leader?

Now, decision time: The more I look at the Ottomans land the less am I enthused by the idea of having 4 cities there. The land can be comfortably coveres by 4, but 2 suffice to cover the luxes and most of the area (the silks are in Washington's influence already)! This would allow us to keep/found cities on the other continents to help an invasion, e.g. healing ships and troops, but also (later) allowing airlifts there!

Shifting Denzili 1 tile NE or keeping it and moving Bursa to the hill between the wines looks like a good idea to me! Obviosuly, once the units are on the ships again and a road detour around Riza built that sucky hellhole will have to go. Then we are at 12 cities with Konya and Aydin to be disbanded at will (maybe take Uskudar for one of them until NewDenzili has grown in culture? Or maybe keep it for good and have only 1 valence city?). Urfa will be abandoned at end turn.

All this thinking makes me aggressive, so I kill Muskets (2 in Uskudar), decide not to lose our Horses @ Bingol (redlined one for no gain) and go for a coffee.
 
I am an idiot!

IT: we luck out three times (LBW vs Spear @ Bingol, archer vs Horse @ Bingol, LBM vs Knight @ Riza) but lose the Knight to antoher LBM. Musket next to Ankyla survives LBM.

I am even more of an idiot: I could have rushed the Pentagon last turn and we might have gotten another leader from the elite horse defending.

(2) Zerk Army kills 2 LBM, take Uskudar killing 2 Knights with Zerks. Keep it for now.
Bingo @ Bingol - it gets razed.

I trade Physics and Metallurgy to the Aztecs (I hate it when I lack stupid dead-end techs and thus have to steal or buy at far higher prices!) to get both Music and Eco, WM and 3 Gold is all they can throw in.
Can't get Egypt to give us a reasonable offer for Mil Trad. Pity.

IT: useless LBM get clobbered by Muskets.

(3) what? Trond had no Granary? :eek: Order one! Start a Frigate to have *some* protection for ships.

grab a settler killing Musket and LBM, Zerk Army knocks Denzili down 2 Muskets, lose a Zerk and get a leader in Zongudak (razed). Bypass Bursa and head ships for Izmit (why give capital bonus to each town we take?)

Though the map would look better without Izmit it has SunTzus, so I keep it for now. This means the end for Riza.
Our income jumps significantly as lux goes to zero - we now have Gems :D

Mugla gets hit, too, but there's a musket left. Expose two zerks when the Horseman army loses too many hit there. :weed:

Horse army loses 10 of its 11 leftover HP to 3 HP LBM :crazyeyes: - phew!
2 Zerks redline @ Busra, 2 more do better and the continent is free of the orange pest :D This destroys the hanging gardens, but they are not needed atm while SunTzus gives us a real (if small) saving.

IT: Inca join Maya vs Rome. Good, Andawhatever threatenes our Gem colony.
One Otto city is nixed by someone.

(7) Stockholm takes over for Iznik and gets us all the wines now.

OK, I declare myself officially crazy: disliking the fact that the Inca (weak) lack Rifles and get beat up by Rome, disliking the fact that we lack both Rifles and Cav, i decide to risk a risky steal for almost all our money with Rome.


I succeed :D and get WM, 124 Gold and Mil Trad from the Inca for Nat.

IT: super, Rome wants Incense! I say no and we lose the Gems colony. Well, War happiness makes up for it :D
I expect an invasion soon, so I hupgrade 2 Knights to Cav ASAP. Antoher will follow next turn.

We should really think about getting to rails fast! ATM, we can research Steam @ neutral budget in 22 - no go!

(8) a bunch of berzerks put the Ottomans out of their misery and I keep the city as a flycatcher for Roman Cavs (for now).
2 Cavs go into the empty army.
More Caravel upgrades give us a ship for the 3Zerk army :mwaha:

There will be a Roman landing somewhere soon - two Frigate 1 Galleon near Bergen. Upgrade a Knight in anticipation, start moving the cav army that wa (as the ex-Otto/US lands have enough defenders.

Send out two amphibious groups for Roman cities.

I found a 12th city for us, even if the location isn't great. Better than nothing.

I disband our horse army and form a new one to fill with cavs.

We lose no units and raze Tzinzuntzen.


Summary

We're on the warpath now. We can pretty do with the Romans as we please. Our cav army can really lay down the smack with cannon support. Burn em all :evil:
 
Great work, team.

Rome can be a nasty piece of work if they get too strong, so hurt them bad when we have the chance. Don't be shy to raze half their empire and take some good stuff for peace.

Who's up? I'm confused too, but I "think" it's grahamiam.
 
since i f'd-up goz8, i am going to have to replay 4 warturns in that game. there is no way i can get to this game tonight + play that game as i have to get the house cleaned for a visit from my parents during the weekend.
