Goz8 - Silence is Golden

Oops, I forgot about you TheRat.

Since Lee doesn't seem to be overly enthusiastic, I guess he has his hands full already.

So you're in Rat and of course you too KB.

We have a roster: (not necessary playing order)

If Lee still wants to join, he is of course welcome.

so, are you throwing in some starts? :)

I think I like start 3 for the gems and river, although we would probably want to move either inland or to the coast.

Start 1 is OK also.

If we use 1, we should settle on the hill SE and a later town could go to the hill NE-E. We will have a few more good tiles to work with here I think. I actually like 1 better with those BG's.

3 is alright too, only because of the river and the gem, but pretty shield-poor.

i like No 3 too, if we take No 1, I would settle SW one the hill. that way, we get river and ocean access plus defence bonus (might be good for this variant) and have only 5 coastal squares to work.

wrt #3, we are standing on a BG. moving inland (E) would seem alright. we'll want those gems in our capitols radius + the extra river tiles as we're going to do most of our own research. it'll also give us 4 chops. worker can stand still and just mine in place too.

wrt #1, i don't see it having much over #3. it has one more BG (3 vs 2), but has a lot of coast and too many hills & mountains for proper growth.

my vote would be for #3, just due to the extra available gold. we'll need it for research. then again, i'm usually all wet with this stuff :crazyeye:

Why did I say SE, when I mentioned No1? I'm idiot, that's why! SW I meant of course.

But it seems like we have 3 players already favoring 3, so let's go for that.

Who wants to start this? I do!

Ok, roster:

gozpel
grahamiam
Sir Bugsy
TheRat
Kaiser Berger

Are we alright with that?

Although we're already decided on #3, I also throw in my vote for it just for kicks.

The order looks good, although I'm suprised you didn't put me right after you and then play immediately to put me up in all three of your games  :joke:

The settler stands on a BG and I decide to move him E, so in the far future the capitol may benefit from the gem. The other option would be SE and would cover the visible tiles better, but I like the extra river-tiles.

Worker starts roading the BG.

3950bc - Ur is founded and we have 2 more BG's within expanded borders. Start enkidu.

So what to research? We can't buy techs easily and Alphabet is 42 turns. I'll try the Wheel - 34t, as that will be of great importance to know where the resources are. I was almost going for Alpha or WC, but with horses there might be a trading opportunity later if the AI wants to talk to us.

But then, they probably demand it

And yeah, I know, normally I would've gone for Alphabet. But didn't this time, so live with it! :p

3850bc - Road finished, mine. Cut research by 7 turns.

3700bc - Ur enkidu, start another.

3550bc - Ur enkidu -> enkidu

3500bc - Scouting enkidu find ivory 6-7 tiles NE! Our first settler has to go there.

3450bc - Ur enkidu -> settler.

3400bc - Find another ivory up there.

3350bc - Find goodyhut S.

3300bc - Pop it for 25g, was hoping for barbs to promote our mighty enkidu :)

3200bc - A few tundra tiles S, we sit pretty good here with ocean to W and S.

Another gem far NE.

3100bc - Ur settler -> enkidu. Settler pair is going for the ivory.

3000bc - That was pretty eventless.

After Wheel we should go for Alphabet. With another city we will get it a little bit quicker. Or do we go for IW? I like to know where the resources are, as I said before.

Ur can start granary after the enkidu, the worker is already chopping.

I provided my idea of a dotmap, IF we get in to wars, I like the AW approach of placing cities. Of course that can be thrown in the bin, depending where you want to place towns. But I think the ivory is important.

Defiance games really want the 3 apart city placing plan. It is the best for AW, but good for any heaving fighting variant.

Preflight check: nothing to do.

T1: 2950BC Found Sweet Salmon -> Enkidude. See a barb nearby so I move the Enkidude towards it.
Northern Exploring Enkidu meets an Otto warrior/spear pair.

IBT: Ur EW -> settler

T2: 2900BC Enkidude kills barb warrior and promotes.
Turn down science to 80% to gain a penny.

IBT:

T3: 2850BC Enkidude rests, Other 2 EW’s explore some more. Switch Ur to a granary as we won’t have enough growth to match the chop.
Science down to 60% to gain 3 more penny’s.

IBT: Wheel -> WC (12T), I have a feeling we’ll want something with more than a 1 attack rating soon.

T4: 2800BC Crap, Enkidude dies to barb warrior guarding BV! Easterly one begins circling back.

IBT:

T5: 2750BC Find the Ottoman town of Edrine.

IBT: Sweet Salmon EW -> worker

T6: 2710BC Moving EW’s.

T7: 2670BC Easterly EW attacks barb camp and dies without scratching it
Btw, horses are near Sweet Salmon.

IBT: Ottomans are building Oracle.

T8: 2630BC Northern EW sees purple border.

T9: 2590BC Moving

T10: 2550BC Worker begins roading mined BG.
See a Babylonian spear and Viking town of Copenhagen.
Adjust Sci/lux Slider for growth in Ur.

Granery due in 2T, WC in 6T.

yes, but would it be advisable to put the next town near the ivory 1st, then fill back or do you fill in an orderly progression (ie, dist 3 first, then distance 6.5 near the ivory on Gozpel's map)?

next town should be the dot between horses and ivory. then backfill maybe. do we want to go for SoZ? would help a lot in a defiant game i guess

In AWE you don't want to depending on filling in the gaps. Take a look at LK71 and how much of a strain a distance 4 city cost us that had the Hanging Gardens. It took forever to close the gap. Look at the dead iron city with the gap problem.

We know the AI beelines to luxuries. You are NOT at war yet. Get the ivory and horses. I agree with ThERat.

As for Zeus - it is good in ANY game.

thanks, both of you. my insticts are the same (go for horses and ivory) but it's nice to get it confirmed with this different (defient) setup :)

btw, it looks like bugs is up.
