GR13 - AWE on LK's world map

lurker's comment: I would stack the armies, use all but one to attack the city and use the one healthy one for cover. Then just heal the wounded armies and rinse and repeat until the city is yours.

Might take quite a few turns though.

That's a losing proposition. The AI will keep replacing the defenders with fresh units from outside the city.

Thanks for the advice, but everyone here is well versed in tactics.

M60 go for it now, I suspect they are down to just 4 to 6 units as many units past throught the town after I got through cutting the roads. If you get down to 1 army then wait.

Unless you have actually seen units enter since I pasted it on. If it is still size 12 or even 10, they have not done much drafting.

Salarakus matches my advice. I would rather heal the armies and cut all the roads. We attack and lose we lose the game. Not worth it.

If we keep wittling away at the defenders, I think we can win. The AI is not intelligent enough to stack defenders in the capitol and make it impossible to take.

I would also stack all the armies under the knight army on mountains. If it is not worth attacking out, then the AI won't move units into the town to attack.

I think rushing this without good odds is a very bad idea.

Remember the AI will also move units OUT of the capitol.

Maybe they will do some drafting if you hit the place once with just one army. It would be nice to see them drop in pop.
lurker's comment: IMO, this is the key. They're already down to size 8. Pillage the roads to stop reinforcements. Stand on the flood plains to starve 'em down. Once the city is down to size 6, go to the attack. A sword has well over a 99% chance of winning and a knight has a good chance of two or even three attacks.

You can win a war of attrition. So long as the city is small, you should be able to take out 6 or 7 units per turn. If most reinforcements are prevented from arriving, this is more than enough.

Greebley we can do both. We can probe them hard with all the armies, save one. I am very sure that if they have not reinforced during the last few turns, they are down to 4 or so units, all rifles.

If that is so we can take it now and have several armies to hold it. I would use 1 move off of the 2 move armies and 2 attacks for 1 of the knights. If they still have fresh units pop up, then heal.

If the first 3 swords win, we could very well get in with all armies and will not have to worry. No roads exist near the capitol, except just past the mountains. They will not be able to get anything to us till the turn after we get our techs.

We can abandon after we get them and use the armies to cause havok on the way back.

I also like to see some of the armies get off the mountains and sit on those flood plains. IF we are going to be awhile, lets deny them the food. I would rather they starve down than draft down.

I have the honour of reporting the capture of Karakorum. Among captured items discovered at their “Great Library” were documents pertaining to the following scientific advances: Republic, Theology, Printing Press, Education, Banking, Astronomy, Democracy, Physics, ToG, Magnetism, Military Tradition, Steam Power, Medicine, and Communism.

I must also report the loss of 7th and 9th Sword Armies that were lost to desperate counterattacks by Chinese and Mongolian forces outside the gates of the city. Their great sacrifice was noted by their fellow soldiers from inside the city who were not counterattacked. Our remaining forces are severely depleted, but are razing the town and will then seek shelter in more suitably defensive terrain. We will then attempt to heal our forces and prepare to return and link up with our comrades in the West.

What is the the news on the tech front? I know we got steam, but how close are they to SciMeth?

The AI we all love and cherish

we better start a prebuild for the ToE soon and then make sure we get 2 techs for free.
Now, with Cav armies, we should be able to expand again. I fear we have too few workers for fast RR.

Yes we are short, I did start a few, not nearly enough. We do not even have roads on many tiles. I guess we need to figure out what the max number of shields we can get with rails in some city and plan a palace to try to time it.

We must be at a 1000 shields by now for a palace. We definitely need to start expanding soon.

Great, now please tell us how many units did you face?

2 vet rifles on turn 1, 2 vet rifles and 2 draftees on turn 2.

I was unable to play anymore yesterday, but will start again tonight. Things to do: revolt to communism, figure out where SPHQ and Mil Academy go, and start railing. Markh said Leo's is in Delhi. Maybe move forces in that direction to get some 1/2 priced upgrades to our obsolete army.

Where is Sun Tzu's located? Free barracks and instant ones would be very nice. I would rather have that than Leo's in this game. Fast healing is worth a lot. We do not have to do that many upgrades if we are without Leo's.

Getting a barracks as soon as we found a town will be very strong. We can pick up a lot of maint cost and the 5 gold for selling off thehand made ones is not too bad either, once we are sure it is ours to stay.

Great work on the capture.

Remember we cannot look at the AI tech until we have built the Intelligence Agency (after which we can look at techs in diplo like a normal game).

Might be worth going for IA and espionage if it is quick.

Do we have Coal?

Also if Universal Sufferage has been started then the TOE can fall when US is built. BTW, if we revolt to Communism we will probably later need to revolt back to Monarchy when our empire gets too big. Comm will be good when we are "mid-sized", but NOT when we are big - then we do better in Monarchy when running scientists.
