GR13 - AWE on LK's world map

Yes flight is very useful to us. With arties to damage ships in range and bombers to finish them off, we can start to slow down those annoying frigates.

Yes, all information is fair game now. We can check to see if a civ has oil or not.

If they do, it might be on islands and hard to reach.

One possible thing we might want to do is send Cav armies to quickly pillage around their capitols. If they don't have oil, then pillaging will stop them from trading for it.

Russia has the biggest fleet, but doesn't have a lot of cities left. I am not sure I have seen many mongol boats, the next player should check, but India is going to be the biggest threat (in terms of Destroyers).

I think we will make progress forward for the rest of the game. Taking out cities will be slow.

We have one size 3 army that fits on a galleon. I suggest we leave it at that size so we can try to take out the rest of the islands off the coast. It is currently on the island near freetown after just taking out the city there. In general though I don't think we will have sea superiority until we have transports.

We should also plan ahead and have Harbors in all towns that might build destroyers. I would go ahead and take the time to do that now rather than having to build them instead of destroyers when we get the tech.

We get sea superiority through air superiority. Frigates will rapidly disappear as our bombers come on line.

We will then be facing bombers ourself. The Ai's will be making carriers this time around. We won't be getting to those non contiential civs soon enough to stop it.

lurker's comment: Is the only way to get a full world map view is to by researching satellites?

Or are you allowed to trade with a civ when you first meet it (before declaring war) ?

No we were not allowed to make trades at any time, We were not allowed to use F4 or CA2 to see what they had or knew, until we planted spies.

You can get the world map by stealing it at this point I would think it has been all explored. May need a couple of civs maps.

Since Greebley said all information is fair game now, I would point out that India is the one holding obscene piles of cash. It would be nice to transfer some of that wealth to where it belongs. ;)

I know you stole a map, I just don't know how complete it was. I was just responding that in any game like this you could expect to get the world expose with one or two stolen maps. Depending on whose map you selected.

How do you guys manage to play ten turns of this monster ? :) It took me two complete evenings to play 3 turns. I will continue tonight and hand it over to the next one then. Maybe I should consider to upgrade my equipment. :mischief:

I razed a freshly built Indian town and got 523 gold, so we are in this business. Unfortunately Gandhi has not yet settled another one in our range.

Yup, two slaves that have to be escorted to safety are not that useful, but 500 gold or so is of use.

IBT : Russia and Babylon sign an MPP

1) 1710AD : raze Heidelburg
raze New Punjab for 410 gold
raze Magadan

IBT : nothing important
France starts Smith's

2) 1715AD : get a leader, but not enough cities to form an army
raze Argos
raze Shuruppak

lose a fully healed knight army on a redlined rifle.
This allows us to build an army in Kahun and form another army with the fresh leader

IBT : Grand River completes Smith's

3) 1720AD : raze a few towns, cannot remember exactly as the computer crashes in turn 1725AD

IBT : a rider captures a stack of artillery, but we will get it back next turn as they could move on a hill only. Saves unit costs, but that was not my intention.

4) 1725AD : replayed as best as I could due to the crash

raze New Dacca for 429 gold
raze Krasnoyarsk
raze Kazan
raze Eridu
raze Zariqum
raze Telloh

get a leader

I stop here as it is an even turn (335).

I began to merge native workers into cities, so we do not have any units costs at the moment. We have a leader in Istanbul IIRC. I ordered 5 stock exchanges to enable us to build the Wall Street and we could do an immediate steal. A few more turns for a safe steal.

Sounds like we continue to make good progress. With our towns all coming on line, I expect we will start making a serious dent in Asia soon.

Agree the turns are long. I only was able to play 10 turns by dedicating a full day to the game. 5 will likely be the norm and sometimes even that will be hard. Don't worry if it itakes 3-4 days to play - also any number of turns is fine even if the number is small ( if your time is busy).

I think this is my favorite part of AW games - even if it is slow - I find the complexity of the tactics great fun.

Roster:

Greebley
ThERat
markh - Just Played
Northern Pike - Up
vmxa - On Deck
M60A3TTS

Sounds good. :goodjob:

I've got it.

Yes, it is great fun, but a little frustrating if you have just used all the artillery units and decided where to merge workers and gave orders to the slaves. Then the PC just reboots. :badcomp:

I would just scrap one of those sword armies, if they are still around, as long as you have cavs to fill a new army.

well, it also took me almost a full day to play 10 turns. The shuffling of artillery and strategic planning was immense and I don't recommend to attempt to play this game in a rush.
It's great fun though. The epic proportions are something one can't find in CIV which is a real pity. This is waht I always loved the game for.

Good idea. If we do this find a town that can be seriously helped along by gaining 100 shields. A good candidate might by a low shield coastal city that needs a Market for happiness and Commerce.
