I disagree. Playing as them now an the extra move is powerful, but not a game breaker. Terrain still screws movement as much, actually more than the other civs.
The Llanero and generals could use a nerf. But I'm not sure how to nerf the general stacking without making one or the other useless
Decided to give them a try after all my complaining about the +1mp.
...and now I feel justified. Its so terribly imbalanced, its not even fun to play as. The civ ability to not end a turn when using an upgrade is powerful enough on its own. (That 50 heal before any attack is huge in combat).
Yeah, it's kind of ridiculous. Maybe it would be alright if that was all he got, but then he also gets a bunch of other great stuff. The fact that his special generals' aura stacks with regular generals is absurd as well, although I strongly suspect that this will get removed. Kind of paradoxical that the civ's UU is cavalry when his infantry and archers get 5 movement. They aren't even restricted to units from the era they were spawned in, so you can just save the one that got the worst retirement ability for actual use even if it spawned in the classical era. It's difficult not to conclude that the developers made this civ grotesquely overpowered on purpose in order to boost sales.
I played my first game for weeks last night. Gran on deity only seemed fitting to see how strong they were.
A sword rush Alex with the +7 Gen and another gen. When I got my second Colombian general (+1 governor promotion) I gave my best sword +7 and it became truly a joke. When you have a 6MP uberkiller sword and Kabul so early it is in the realms of insanity and I stopped taking cities.
Definitely MP ban material, sure the +7 gen was luck but It was not needed.
The stacked MP point is a bit much, I do like the MP for all, it is the generals that are too strong.
After peace the MP was still strong as expected and the hacienda was great.
I just cannot play these guys again because you only have to be vaguely competent. No idea how people can argue they are not on a tier by themselves.
I do think getting rid of the general stacking is a good way to nerf them.
The problem is most of their bonuses aren't really that easy to nerf.
You cant have +0.5 speed to all units. And you can't really have 'promotions heal half but you can still move'
Also the extra movement on all units seems to be intended by the Devs to be their core identity so I can't imagine it being removed. Actually I cant imagine anything being removed apart from the general stacking. So the question is are they still overpowered with all their other bonuses and only the general stacking removed? Since I think that's gonna be the most likely place we end up.
Not enough for me. I really did not bother with stacking them. Take that away, but you need to nerf the general. The abilities they give are great, so remove their +1 MP and maybe give them +2 or +3 for combat. That makes these guaranteed generals still on par with normal generals due to their special ability.
They seemed to make them the same as other generals so they did not have to provide different values for them in code, just treat em as generals... but it’s too much, waaay too much. Everything else is just grand.
Well personally as someone who dosen't war oftern; only doing so when I'm being forward settled or to protect city states, I love playing as Gran Colombia. Their movement really helps your infastruture and cities and the promotions are great for apostles, spies and rockbands too. I also love the hacienda too (both graphically and functionally).
Other then on civilian units and ancient era units, I don't notice the +1 movement. I do love it on my scouts, warriors and archers as it means you can explore more the the map quicker.
You can also slap on some loyalty malus to help balance him out like Governors not providing any bonus loyalty in their cities. He blitzkriegs anyway and rules from a saddle with his generals.

I finished my first Gran Colombia game yesterday and went for a domination route. It was quick because of the extra movement and other bonuses, but I didn't really enjoy it. It really felt like I was using such a cheat Civ mod. I think I will give them another chance and turtle with them (my normal play style), but then their bonuses are not utilised of course.
I do like the Maya balance in the game, but Gran Colombia is so OP it's boring to me. The 1 movement for -everything- is too much already, let alone those amazing bonuses from the new generals and the rest.
it’s different for DLC to patch over code that’s already there in the game then to create code that comes with the code it’s supposed to patch, but only actually patches it if you have certain criteria completed.
Even Gran Colombia's perk differs a little across Vanilla/Expansions. The Comandante General arrives either when you reach new empire era (Vanilla) or new global era (R&F/GS)

that’s because empire era isn’t a thing in RF GS, and it’s still easier to do that than what I wrote above bcs empire era as it is in the base game isn’t present in RF/GS, so they have to have a back-up route in the code for if someone uses RF/GS
I think someone may have pointed this out but does Colombia lack any sort of starting preference?
I've reset a lot with them for an interesting start location but so often I'm just surrounded by grassland. Not even any luxury or bonus resources. It's very strange.

To me, Gran Columbia is the Korea of domination. Once you have the civ, the game is already won. But not for the +1 movement. That's really nice but the bonus generals stacking with regular generals. That is bananas.
I honestly do not want them to be nerfed though, especially when Korea and Nubia remain as stupidly broken as they are.
