Grand Leader Theme Song Compilation

Hello guys.

I felt that some of the civilizations theme songs were a bit plain so I decided to hand-pick a new theme for every leader

. I dont know if its possible to have music for invidual leaders (decius?) but this was something that has been bothering me for awhile so I just had to do this.

It took me over 80 hours to get a perfect fitting theme for everyone and I was quite overwhelmed by the work it required. During the process I kept forgetting how many leaders there are :crazyeye:

Overall the songs are much much more epic and melodic but still elegant and fine-tuned. I have to say Im quite pleased with the results here.

I had many criteria for the songs, they had to:

- Fit the style and atmosphere of the leaders race
- Fit the leaders persona and other possible leaders of same civ
- Fit musically for the FFHII world and with other leader's themes
- Still have some similarity with the old song

I listened to a few, and they seem good...

you should create a modmod that replaces the original with these (yes, it is possible for all leaders to have unique music, and it is also possible to have different musics based on religion, too)
just a note on why it works for different religions: in Vanilla BTS, leaders have music dependant on the age they are in. in FFH, the different ages are the different religions (this was done so that the city art could be changed with religion)

I started playing them while I edited the wikia. As soon as the Twelve Kingdoms Theme started I knew what I had to vote for, regardless of what Civ it was set up for

I'm listening to them right now. My favorite so far was Cardith Lorda, although Einion Logos was also very good. I liked the Amelanchier music the most, but it didn't fit the character very well. Generally, a lot of the music is more upbeat than I find many of the characters to be. This struck me strongly with Charadon and Amelanchier. The one exception so far is Ethne the White, whose music is actually sort of depressing in a way she shouldn't be.

Edit: Garrim Gyr's is extremely well-chosen, too.

Edit2: And Keelyn's. Appropriately creepy. But maybe I just like it because it's reflective of the original Balseraph theme, which is also spine-tingling.

Edit3: Why does Rhoanna always get the best theme? Sabathiel's is also very good.

By the way, as regular Civ4 does music based on leaders rather than civ (so Victoria, Elizabeth and Churchill have different themes), I'm sure it's possible to deal with Decius.

So I misread the poll before I voted - I chose Basium because his is my favorite in the official FFH music. For these, though, definitely Tasunke, though both Rohanna and Sabathiel are right up there.

Very nice selection indeed.

I'd actually set up Deirdra's (FF) music yesterday, but having heard Thessa's theme here, it seems to fit much more closely to what I was looking for. Any objections to me using it for her?

IMHO most of them are too bright for such a dark mod. While they probably would fit with individual leaders when placed out of context I don't think they blend well with the whole tone and mood of the world, which is quite dark and hopeless. I suspect the culprit is the use of lots of japanese composers for this compilation. They tend to be too cheerful

Anyway, kudos for the compilation. As others have suggested this would be a great modmod.

Edit: Overall I like them, but I think Falamar's is a little bit too hardcore for his personality.

Auric - too much living, changing vibrating music (thats wrong). Original ffh is much better (bte words are not power and ruler, but stasis, unchanging, eternal winter) B

about the keywords they are just something i wanted describe the tracks with. of course with my limited english they arent the most imaginitive out there.

my own favourites are falamar, dain caswallan and tasunke. the ones im not competely happy with are sheelba and ethne white.

I've already got a set of custom music for most of FFH's leaders, taken from my various soundtracks (FFVII, Bioshock, Kingdom Hearts II, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Oblivion), but I'm stealing the ones for:

Perpentach (I never thought I'd hear one better then his current... I like what you found, though. It's a bit light-hearted, but somehow, that fits Perp)
Faeryl (nothing I had seemed to fit... although I'm still not sure of this one, it's an improvement)
Tasunke (same as before)
Basium (but I'm using it for Decius, especially since Lost Painting from SOTN fits Basium too well IMHO)
Charadon (I had been using a battle theme from Oblivion, but what you have for Charadon is way more Doviello)
Cardith Lorda (but for the Bannor; it's too militaristic for the Kuriotates)
Falamar (I'd been using the battle tune from the Pirates of the Caribbean world in KH2, but it always felt way out of place)
Garrim Gyr (I was going to stick with what I had at first, but the more I listened, the more I liked it. Really, I'm a sucker for piano.)

I'd use the ones you picked for Einoin Logos, Arcturus Thorne, Flauros and Dain the Casselwain if I wasn't already so satisfied with the replacement tracks I'm using for them now.

You definetly wanna re-roll on Hannah, though. Try "Pirate seas chaos battle" or some such. Something piratical, something warlike, and maybe something Lovecraftian. I mean, really! This woman would eagerly slit your throat for a few gold coins! She's the chosen of the Octopus Overlords, the twisted nightmares of a slumbering god! She's the Kraken of the Fields, not some new-age music loving softy!

About Cassiel: I always pictured him being less new age and more... Jewish? Something about the the idealogy, his original music and of course the flag. I don't know why, but whenever I hear his "original" theme, it reminds me of a synagogue. IMHO, a replacement should do the same.

Amelanchier's theme should have a slight edge of savagery, if you ask me. There is nothing "gentle" about Amelanchier. Remember his pedia entry? Where he kills a holy priest (although with a good reason)? This is not a tree-hugging elf, my friend. This is a hunter and a warrior, the sort of man that could probably earn the respect of the Doviello.

Somehow, I see Tebryn standing upon the ruins of a modern city when I hear what you picked for him...

I think that the song you picked for Decius actually fits Cardith Lorda better, and vice versa.

Alexis' theme actually sounds a bit Balseraph for some reason... it's the laughing/screaming. Anyways, I'd say switch Alexis' and Flauros' themes around. Each matches the other perfectly.

And if anyone has the FFVII soundtrack themselves, trust me: try giving the Sheaim "Those Chosen by Planet." The very first time I played FfH, I found myself humming it when dealing with the Sheaim, even before I changed their soundtrack to it.

Oh, and where have I heard Hyborem's theme before? I feel like I should know, and I'll feel like a fool, but I can't quite place it.

Agree on Hannah.... She is so lovecraftian...... The music you picked for her used in Heroes of Might and MAgic series for Nature doods (Elves). So much differrent from crazy impulsive Octopus chosen.

Same with Auric Ulvin. This theme even have not rights to be compared to original, so much it wrong. Think of Eternal Cold, Frozen world, Stasis, Lack of any Changes, Glaciers, Lifeless ice deserts.
Some black metal related elegies and ballads (as well as instrumental passsages like Mortiis, Burzum) (mostly Norway made music) will fit here, and i think original one is from same origin as well.
