Everyone has seen this before. Happens all the time. Some cities/units/terrain basically burns onto your screen and serves as an overlay to the actual terrain. It may or may not disappear if you go into city view, diplo screen or hit next turn. Even if it goes away it might just happen again next turn.
It's fugly. It existed from 1.0.0.0 and still is here with the current version. I had it with 3 different graphic cards (currently hd5850) and on 2 different computers.

Any chance for a fix with the expansion?

Maybe you could do it right after bringing the combat animations into multiplayer? :mischief:

PS: Didn't try dx9 and I won't. I shouldn't have to. If it happens only with dx11, it still needs to be fixed.

It doesn't happen as much as it used to for me. It's annoying, but I can play through it until I'm done for the night and reloading fixes it completely.

You do know multiplayer animations are coming with the next patch, right?

I've had it, yes.

I don't get it now though; one of the patches must have fixed it for me. I also had some customised settings in the GPU driver that I got rid of. I'm reasonably sure that it was fixed before that though.

This doesn't really seem to belong in the expansion forum.

Haha I thought I was the only one with this problem. If I click somewhere on the minimap, it will usually go away. But I'm with you, this shouldn't still be a problem, over a year after release...

This is also a common problem with my pc.I experienced it really often until the game received the second big patch. I still experience rarely this bug. I have an ATI 4870x2 so perhaps it could be a bug with ATI gpu?

I have this a lot too. But mostly with units and forests, I don't recall seeing cities like that.

Is this a bug in the game or is it a hardware issue? It happens to me fairly often; has anyone ever identified what causes it?

Have an nvidia and have out sometimes as well, so it is not an ati issue. Annoying though! :(

I only play with DX9 and it still happens.

First by "ghost city" I thought you were talking about cities that are here but do not appear. (only a cut road if there's some). This happens since the foundation of some rare cities or few time after it. This is really annoying too.

By the way, what you are talking about happens to me also, but only with units. (for now)

Here is how to have the problem,
and how to relieve the symptoms:

Move your view so you are overlapping the right/left map edge. Next, JUMP (don't scroll) to middle of the map (or anywhere you aren't overlapping the edge) by clicking on the mini-map.
PRESTO -- instant 'ghosts'!

To relieve the symptoms, move back to the map edge (same or different locale, doesn't matter) and SCROLL (do not jump) away from the edge (arrow keys or mouse) enough so you aren't overlapping the seam anymore.
PRESTO -- 'ghosts' removed and no ghosts formed.

Moral of the story: If you're going to click the mini-map, confirm first you aren't overlapping the map seam. Scroll away or zoom in first.

I'm really surprised some of you vets hadn't figured it out yet.

It's a hardware issue late-game when you have a bunch of units and things slow down. I used to have it before I got a better comp. :D

Same here. With a better computer and video card, this problem hasn't reoccured for me.

My favorites are when the unit being attacked/bombarded moved but the graphical subsystem is not yet aware of that.

LOL, I've seen a trebuchet fire at something 6 tiles away before, but nothing quite as impressive as you've got there
