[Graphic Mod] Varietas Delectat v9.2 [civ specific unit sets]

...and if you thought v3.0 is all about tanks&planes, I added a new screenshot in the first post called "v3.0 update - beyond tanks&planes" :D

lol, this isn't per chance a reaction to my thread ? :D

Nice work with the fast updates! What logic did you use to assign the modern units to each nation (eg. zulus have an english WW1 tank). I think mamba asked something like this in his other post but you must have missed it :p

Also I know it's not your fault but a lot of the custom modern units have smoke pouring out even though they're not damaged (I questioned snafusmith about this weeks ago but he never replied). However, the good thing is I've worked out how to fix this so I'll upload fixed versions of them soon enough :)

Nice to see my settlers have been useful btw ;) Keep up the good work.

Hmmm, yes. Aside from the obvious (Germans, English, American, French, etc...) I used the usual - East(mostly Russian) vs. West(mostly US stuff) if applicable, and then I chose the MarkV for the Ottomans because of Indiana Jones III(ok, sorry about this :D) . Also I gave the Zulus a bit backward but robust modern units: e.g. MarkV, Dreadnought, Early Destroyer...
However, if you can reason otherwise, I'd be happy to change any of the sets to suit the community's needs.
Sidenote: I always felt the modern age needs even more unit classes - and techs as a side effect. Partly because there were historically some "cool" things going on in a short amount of time, and party because there are soooo many cool units available here in CFC. I'll probably do an extended modern age in a mod addition, but that will be optional so I will keep VD as is - no gameplay changes.

Oh, so it's smoke then? I thought it was the shadow (I played around with the shadow settings but obviously in some cases it was not enough) I thank you in advance for fixing those, it kept bothering me!:goodjob:

Yep, it's a cool settler pack, thank you mucho! Now only if the other nations would get a similar treatment to their respective modern settlers, hmmm *HINT* *HINT*;) :D

I second that :)

Actually with the release of snafusmith's WW1 plane pack, I am thinking about adding early fighters, early bombers and early tanks to the game, but as you said, that probably will require some additional techs to make these available.

Haha, not too sure about the ottomans... I'm don't know much about modern warfare so don't take my advice too seriously. I would probably give the chinese type 99 to other asian civs for their modern armour, instead of the american abrams tank.

It's very frustrating isn't it?! I want to replace the Holy Roman Empire with Poland in my mod but I also don't want to alter gameplay (poland will have different UU and UB). I was thinking that Charlemagne with a light reskin could be Casimir.

Yep it bothered me a lot as well which is why I spent an hour + in max and scene viewer working out how to fix it :D Also not sure if you've noticed but asio's awesome new pick up truck doesn't have any death animation :( so when it dies it just disappears rather than exploding. I'm working on fixing that too. If I can manage it I'll send asio the files so he can re-upload it.

Subtle  I'll get back to you on that, kind of busy atm. However in the mean time Siam has made an African modern settler here.

Hadn't seen that one before, you male settler using the CEO animation seems to still remember that he once had a cell phone. He still talks into his hand (which now obviously misses the phone), if you could fix that, it would be great ;)

"Subtle" is me middle name!;) :D Thanks for the hint on the African one!

...He still talks into his hand (which now obviously misses the phone)...
That's kinda ok, since the modern man has all kinds of psychological issues, so this kinda s(t)imulates it... :p

Hmm forgot about this. Well there's two options -

1. New animation which has CEO fidget animation removed, or

2. Give him back the phone..

I think there was a bug with that though because the ceo holds his phone all the time (he's only meant to hold it when he fidgets because at the start of the fidget animation he puts his hand into his pocket to get his phone - but he's already holding it?!) That's a firaxis mistake. Still if you prefer it this way adding the phone back is pretty simple. Or if you just want the settler to not do the phone thing at all that's also simple. I'll post an attachment here, you choose which option :D

Oddly it never really bothered me, I just imagined he had a smaller phone that you couldn't see :mischief:

Awesome work once again!
And as the resident Zulu nut, I want to say that I am thrilled with your choices for the more modern Zulu units!

Anyway, couple of suggestions for further additions :p :
I swear I saw a Swedish WWII era fighter somewhere around here (I looked again and can't find it), which would be a good replacement for the Vikings if it's actually real and I didn't dream it.
How about the Hurricane for India's fighter? They apparently did use it, and it's a shame to let a good model like that go to waste
Also, what about generalmatt's ironclad warship and refar's bronenosets as ironclad replacements for england and russia respectively? Bronenosets could even almost be the russian battleship, and it's so cool it hurts to see it left out

I kinda hoped you'd like it!

I only did see a Finnish plane somewhere but I didn't include it at the end. If you do find it, give a pointer.

I can add the Hurricane to India. I think the Bronenosets is too advanced for a coastal ironclad, and too early for a 40 str battleship.
But... these are all awesome units. That's why I'm gonna do a modern age revision mod as an addition to VD - so there will be place for those ships and planes and tanks.

The only swedish ones I am aware of are part of snafusmith's unreleased units, I too am waiting to add them to the Vikings :)

Alright, I'm sick of mods not working. How do I uninstall and reinstall this game.

Found it, but it's an up-and-comer for snafusmith's new modern warfare version so not actually released yet :( There's a swedish bomber there too, though. On the plus side, they look awesome.

Yeah, I know...it's just so damn cool......I was just looking for the frailest of excuses to put it in :p

@Bahmo: In Start menu I guess you should find the uninstall option (if you meant Civ4)

@Polycrates: Yep, it's a hard time to wait for those to become available. But sweet to know that the time WILL come:) [yeah, the Bronenosets is supercool!]

@siam: thanks!

@ALL:
There is this particular issue that bothers me now... namely there's something fishy going on with the Japanese rifleman and cavalry textures - at times they are black, and in the little unit overview window, they remain black! If you have info on this and what might cause this, please don't hold yourself back and share it with me. Thanks in advance!

I had similar problems with some units as well (in civilopedia window only however, not sure if this is the same issue). What fixed it was to actually use the original kfm and delete the one that came with the unit. I have no idea why that changed anything, esp. since they both were binary identical, but it did, so I guess it is worth a try.

The sad news is that I already use the default RedCoat.kfm and Cavalry.kfm. Is there no such problem with these units in your mod, mamba?
