[Graphic Mod] Varietas Delectat v9.2 [civ specific unit sets]

I was playing a game the other day, and one of my opponents were the Native American indians, I noticed their drednaughts looked exceptionally large. You might want to check that out.

Yes, thanks, that is noted by RPG as well (it's the same dreadnought)
I was waiting for more error reports but if I don't get in a few days I'll update the MEE anyway with a fix for the dreadnought.

you know making the greek warlord was fairly easy - renaming the holite Bips to match that of the warlords bips. If you could recommend which units to use I could do it for more units, especially ancient ones (like persia). or other people can try.

That's great, I'll check for units suitable for warlords!

What about this one?

Maybe with a different shield and a sword instead of a spear.

Since were on the topic of error reporting on the new v5 (after playing the first game). Dutch Gunship (haven't been at war with other moderns, so there could be others) fires barrages of arrows??? They sure do look like arrows to me, or are they crooked missiles. And the Khmer Axeman is void of animation (just stands there with his arms spread wide).

And playing the Holy Romans I sure I felt like I was missing certain flavor units, for instance a vanilla curassier, which has french lillies on its sadle :(

I noticed JustATourist's Sailingship skins made it in. Haven't been able to check yet, but were the Dutch East Indyman and the Portugese Carack reskins also included to make them fit in?

Keep up the good work :goodjob:

It's not arrows, it's missiles! ;) I agree they look pretty odd, but unless someone fixes it in the animation, I cannot change it...

Thanks on the Khmer Axeman, will check it.

Yep, the Holy Romans lack diversity, I admit. I couldn't find really good ones (and I really feel that the Holy Roman Empire should be swapped out. Yep. Even if for Malta or Feroe Islands... :D)

I can't remember about those ships, but will check.

Thanks for the reports!

The problem with the Holy Roman Empire is that it was usually Germanic in arms and armor. There was some Spanish influence in the early 16th C with Emperor Charles V (Carlos 1 of Spain), but one could just put the Holy Roman eagle on the shields and surcoats of the German set and that would be it.

It crashes during this turn, playing as Ramesses II on the Balanced map. Please adress it.

I could not reproduce the crash. I played a couple of more turns, and nothing seems wrong, I attached the new savegame.
Are you sure you are not using anything else besides VD?

Nothing else. Is this mod known for overheating low-end computers?

I've not heard of heating systems based on Varietas Delectat as of yet...?

On a more serious note, note that VD adds several hundreds of new units, that can really strain your graphics card and CPU...
You could check your own savegame and check if the crash is reproducible, also if you can load the savegame I posted.

I had crash problems playing VD4 too. Playing on a powerful PC I observed strange graphic phenomenon; playing on a less-powerful PC it crashed always at the same point.
I attributed these problems to the high number of units of the mod; anyway, the game is worth the candle! ;)

The problem with the Holy Roman Empire is that it was not a civilization, but an over-national istitution, inclusive of tens of civilizations/peoples.

I think that an Austrian civilization would have been more appropriate

but one could just put the Holy Roman eagle on the shields and surcoats of the German set and that would be it.

Good idea! I'd like it! :goodjob:

The Holy Roman Empire IS (mostly) of what is nowadays Germany and Austria (and more) so yes, the units should fairly look the same. Wolfshanze replaced the Holy Roman Empire with Austria (Austria-Hungary) because of the same reason. The Austrian Empire superceded the Holy Roman Empire. the Holy Roman Empire doesn't really contribute to civ. Don't know why the creators have put it in in the first place.

But I also agree with the not changing gameplay bit. But you could consider it a correction: changing HR to the Austrian Empire, just like changing some unit names because the weren't acurate anymore (maceman -> heavy footman e.g.). The Austrians also have the same Eagle (the Habsburg eagle) and the Austrian Flag (historical) was also collored black and gold. But then again: wolfshanze has changed more in his mod, than just this.......

I think you just have to tally how many pro's and contra's you can think of ;).

But I would prefer German flavor units to fill up the current gaps, over the vanilla units. Seeing french lillies on a Holy Roman currasier feels just wrong.....:(

(great bridge back to topic:goodjob:), that's what!

That, too. But the fact remains that at the time of founding it was also a number of thrown together people, although more closely related then the different groups in the US.

The crash has something to do with units stationed in cities. It occurs (without variation) either when I train an archer and the camera snaps over to the city that produced him, or when I order him to garrison. I was able to train archers up to before that point, however. I also played a whole game as China with no such errors. I will try your file, but naturally having this sort of glitch go unfixed in the truer sense is not going to be tolerable if the bug happens many more times.

Edit: Sorry, but you're replacement file crashes, too. It's safe to say that whatever the problem is, it involves Egypt.
