[Graphic Mod] Varietas Delectat v9.2 [civ specific unit sets]

I just wanted to say that I've been using this mod for a few days and I think it's absolutely fantastic! Exactly what the game should have been like from the beginning. I particularly like the sleek, ninja-like Japanese axemen...

I think, it isn't a bad idea to use fankish units for early times (axemen, riders and earlier units), slightly reskinned german units for later (heavy footmen, knights an later; I think there are more german units, that you can for germany only) and perhaps austrian in late industrial modern era (if there are enough).
This would be the best solution. I volonteer to make Austrian Napoleonic Era type units if nescesary (reskins).
Rifleman, Cuirasier, Cavalry, Grenadier and Cannon? Avain, let us know what you think...

@snipperrabbit!!: Ummm, I cannot get hungry enough to eat snails ;) :p

@OscarWildebeest: thanks, I'm glad you enjoy it - all these units are the commulative effort by the community

@the issue of HRE:
Well, I didn't want to do big things about it. There were some good Italian units not used by Rome, thus I added them to HRE, so it's not true that HRE lacks diversity, just check these:

Does this mean an update is coming?

& how's the Hungarian mod coming along? All the screen shots you've posted for it look really good!

This is only my opinion:
I'd like to see more late-time italian units for roman empire (those in your picture are from Bakuel's Italy Industrial Unit Pack), especially the «Alpini» Infantry, just to represent continuity from Rome to Italy. I think also that those units look too much.. italian :mischief: to be used by a frankish/german/austrian and less italian civilization.
Also I'd prefer them for Rome instead of those fictional half-pretorian half-modern units (i.e. Musketeers with crest?)

And at last I like the proposal of JustATourist for HRE too.. :p

@RPG: These are all in VD5 already - but anyway, I'm thinking about the next step - whether it'll be a smaller patch or additional content like VD5.1

The Hungarian mod could be released already, I'm just waiting for Bakuel (he promised 2 additional units), but I'm using the meantime to improve the mod.

@10lire: I understand your view. I might check the possibility of swapping some units.

Thank you! You are our hero!
:worship:

Don't worship me (yet) ;)
Pro primo firstly, I don't deserve it:mischief:
Pro primo secondly, I just checked the current Roman set and I realized I draw a dividing line between Rome and Italy at 1900 AD (ie. Infantry and mech. units...)
This is highly unrealistic, but if I did move the line back to where the Roman Empire ended, I'd need to remove quite a few quality (even though "fantasy" or "what-if") units.
So my proposal would be: Why not have a new additional civ for VD: Italy? I already thought about this: there are quality leaderheads such as Garibaldi and Mussolini (completely not good for the Roman Empire), there are cool Italian units by Bakuel and others, and there are alternative Roman type units for the really ancient units, and the dividing line could be much closer to 476.
Are you up to the task?;) I'm willing to provide you with support if needed...

Great idea, would Italy be optional, like the Modern Era Expansion/Hungary Addon?

no news about an eventual industrial and modern pack for meso-americans civilizations(in place of the mexicans)?

If the Franks replace the HRE, I should design a new flag for them and use the HRE flag for Austria!

Actually, I think Sid Meier put in the HRE in the game the first place because he wanted a way to fit in Charlemagne.

Looks to me like you did more than TRY. Is that going to be part of VD5 or not?

If not could you post the unit. In fact, could you just post it anyway.

Ok, I'll upload it for you, but I cannot guarantee I won't make changes to the unit afterwards...

avain, any chance you have an idea whats missing?

Currently I can say that we'd need:
- a good Carthaginian set (Bakuel promised it already;))
- a good Viking set
- more variety in the Byzantine set
- more ethnic settlers and settlers for different ages
- more variety in the Dutch set
- some more ethnic ships (mainly privateers, but others for Africa, and I guess a Frigate for Soutch America)
- more variety in the Portugal set
- a quality Spanish ancient set

So at least these.
