[Graphic Mod] Varietas Delectat v9.2 [civ specific unit sets]

:help:HELP NEEDED:help:

Dear Community,

I'd like take Varietas Delectat into a direction that will lessen the number of late game MAF (Memory Allocation Failure) errors. I've already done some work in this direction (you asked why is it so that the dowload size is smaller even as I added content), but as the number of added units is steadily increasing (well, this is good, as this is the aim of the mod in the first place), we need to take some measures.
So I'd kindly ask your help in this task.

Please help:help: me:
- identify units with too high polycount (I've seen 2000 polys/units limits), but let's just identify the worst units in this regard
- correct these units by reducing the poly count if possible
- identify units with wasteful/bad texture handling (I mean I've seen units use just a small part of a bigger texture(s) -> this is a waste of resouces!)
- correct these by creating new combined textures, or
- identify the most commonly used textures and have them in a shared folder, and modify the units to use these
- any other idea to ease the MAF problems

I'd like to thank in advance for any help provided,

avain

Cant you make a religion pack. With shinto, vodoo, Helanisme, Babylonic religion, Carthage religion, celtic religion, mesoamarican religion and indian religion

Something like this?

i hope you are aware of this thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=312800 , unfortunally iirc the texture size were not covered there (and the difference between a 512*512 and a 256*256 texture are already 250 kb - a 1024*1024 has a size of 1,3MB, to compare a leaderhead nif with 8500 poly has around 600 kb).

Also you can have a much lesser polycount if you use NiTriShape instead of NiTrStrips (see F22 example, original all objects NiTriStrips ~30000 polys, all transformed to NiTriShape ~5500 polys) so not sure if a hard poly cut makes sense, perhaps better look at the file size, because both files have about the same size (478 kb to 448 kb)

Imo you can gain more gain if you check first the textures (size, how many are used (total memory), can some put in the shared folder (reduce total memory), can some be merged, ...) and the file size of the nifs. If there files with let say 150 (or better for a first run 200 kb, or 250 kb?? ) they are worth to check [and here i can assist you]

what i ment was: Cant you make a expansion to this mod whit new religions??? Like you have maked the expanded native amaricans???

this is just an idea.
You could ask just a tourist if you could add his religion pack to Varietas Delectat.
If its possiple of course. I dont no anything about modding. You could also add Tengriisem (turchis and mongolian religion) and caanaisme (carthage religion) and Babylon / sumerian religion.
I love religions and im just asking becuase i think its a bit stupid that greece, Egypt and rome always become jews or christians. Not because i hate them but its unrealistic.

Yes, thanks, I knew about that thread, but now I read it through. Most of the offending units are also in VD.
I did a triangulate change on them, and usually it halves the polycount. What do you think, does lower poly help in reducing the overflow of video memory? (I'd assume yes of course) The files sizes are about the same for me, too.

I can probably do the texture changes up to do point of merging different textures, now that I don't know how to do.
Yes, I was doing a methodical check with Total Commander for file size even for v5.2, and reduced some extra big textures (there were some with over 1 Mb!)
Now I'm running with lower limits, like 400k, the going down.

Any help is more than welcome!

That native prophet uses Sitting Bulls head so it has about 7990 polys or so.
It can be fixed by loading it up into blender and reducing the polygons on the head but one may as well create a brand new native prophet...:dunno:

Just the simplest solution would be good.

Take it easy, ginni! You are overloading the forum system;)
In my plans currently there's no religion mod. But if you look around and learn some basic modification tricks, you can easily merge this mod with an existing religion mod.

Well I'm making Viking units at the minute avain, I'll probably be able to do something with the native great prophet by the weekend though.

I'll probably just make a brand new native great prophet, I saw some interesting pictures of a coyote/wolf native shaman that I want to try to make.

Yes, I would like a native prophet too. Did not include the current one thanks to its high polycount.

Avain : Zervers modern units frequently have overly large textures, those can easily be reduced. I did so in my mod.

Oh, these are great!
But don't let me stray you from your schedule - do as you see fit!
