Graphical Quibbles...

Wow - I like the idea. Sounds really cult-like! Hmm, I would suggest something with a head, given the SMAC ingame description of mindworms. A problem might be that we already have one using a head, the Psychic Terror promotion - maybe use its icon for infest? Or a kind of mindworm duplicating himself?

Perhaps Psychic Terror with the X in the head taken out, and replaced by a worm. (Though this might be harder to notice when looking at enemy unit lists.)

A worm sticking out of a smaller head may work as well.
 
Ahhh... was waaaay too long since I last uploaded (or posted here) - moving, exams, end of semester, summer... and the new patch a couple of days ago - but I'm finally done with a new cityset for the Data Angels! :)

I've uploaded screenshots here, but please use the files attached to this post - this download includes the XML changes (only for cities, not for farms, though) and a new Data Angels HQ.

The models/textures are pretty much emulating the look from SMAX, but I added more windows to the models to give the cityset a less industrial and more urban feel, same for the colour choice. I hope it gives some sort of arcology-like vibe.

If you want changes to the cityset, etc... you know the drill, ask me and I'll try to do it. Also, I hope GeoModder is kind enough to put it into the PlotLSystem later...

That was pretty much the idea - should work unless I forgot something (in that case see yourself as betatester! :p )

I also attached two attempts at an "Infest" promo button. I think I like the second one a little more, but I'm not quite sure...

Since you're in a button creation mood, I figured I'd bring two other issues to your attention.

1) The Atmospheric Processor and Weather Control share the same button. Do you have any ideas for a different button for one of them?

2) Pfeffersack suggested adding a Blitz spec ab. I figured Zero Point Module, available at Antimatter or something, would be a fitting name. Do you have any ideas how a button for that could look? :mischief:

1) New archaeology button - more or less stolen from the universal translator; better then the alien head, I think (and frees up the "progenitor psych" icon if the alien factions make it into the game).
2) Atmospheric processor - uses the flask like the bioreactor to show that it's sort of a atmosphere generator, can't mistake that for "control".
3) Weather control - I've grown to dislike the current weather control icon, the dots just seem to be out of place. This uses the "controlled singularity" box to signify control - might work for the tech as well.
4) Weather control satellite - I actually prefer this button, but a satellite is a change in flavour (though I'd prefer a satellite, there are not a lot of orbital structures in Planetfall, I sort of miss them, besides weather control satellite just sound like cool concept - like the ones in Dune)
5) Zero point module - used the nano-tech shape to show that it's sort of harvesting energy from the vacuum.

Furthermore, I attempted to make some buttons for the Morgan Corps. I used the economy grid to show the coperation idea and to tie them together. With the bi-colour scheme, they stand out, so you can't mistake them for generic buildings. What do you think?

Hmm, while the symbols look fitting, I must say I kinda feel the colours clash when used right next to each other.

I'd like to hear Pfeffersack's and GeoModder's opinion about the matter first.

Hmm, I not sure. I like the two-coloured buttons for that they are clearly distinct from the others. They stand out...of course it is not easy to see how they will actually fit into the game, together with the rest of the base screen. You said that you feel the colours clash - do you mean inside a single button or if more than one of these buttons is located next to each other?

Perhaps - if it is not too much extra work - we could have a single colour version as comparison?

Sure, will do so tomorrow. In the meantime... a little preview. Not final yet, I need to come up with some additional 2x2 and perhaps some 1x2 or 2x1 buildings and I'm still not 100% happy with the colour scheme - so I'm hoping for suggestions! :)

The cycon wallpaper shows some browns for small support stuff and fittings of the larger structures. Perhaps you could add it to your color scheme for the CyCon set?

As on the buttons, I'm more in favour of the bi-colored ones. To my eyes, the background grid would 'overwhelm' the foreground symbol in cases where it's rather fine-lined, like with the helix, book, and outer triangles of the power symbol, if a single color was used.

Btw Maniac, haven't you tried to link some of those SMACX secret project movies to the Victory conditions of Planetfall? For instance, the BulkMatter video could fit for the Interstellar Gate victory?
And no imprisonment movies when a faction is obliterated? :(
 
That's three people in favour of bicoloured buttons, and one not sure. Sounds like there is a big majority for bicoloured. I'll use them then.

That would require extra coding. I have no idea right now what that code would need to look like.
