Greatest (favorite) Rock Vocalists

:nope: Ozzy is a terrible singer. He's famous for his songs, not his ability to sing them. He sings in a monotone.

The thread is about greatest/favourite vocalists. Ozzy fits that category. And you can't teach a man about taste… so stop insisting :)

OK, I'll take your word for it. Geddy is obviously the extremely high pitched antagonists ;)

OK, they BOTH sound like Mickey Mouse on helium then ;)

Great album however.

EDIT: My fave on that album

Sorry.

I just noticed Rush seem kind of libertrians, so they suck obviously.

Watch this for an anecdoteantidote (very very strong language)

Van Morrison has a great voice, but Freddie Mercury was a better singer.
I suppose that really comes down to it. Are we just picking people who happen to be vocalists who we like? In such a case I'd have to list Jim Morrison, David Byrne and Dr. Phinneus Waldorf Steel. But if we're going to go by the greatest vocalist, it's very hard for anyone to stand up to Freddy Mercury.

I made the thread thinking of a little of both. "If I could have any one of these guys voices" may have been a different way to phrase it.
I picked the rock singers I liked because they're great singers in regards to talent and originality. There are bands I really like, but I might think that their singers aren't very talented (Ozzy Osbourne and Dave Mustaine may be two examples brought up) or not particularly unique. Just as there are bands I don't really like but I think they may have really good singers (Rob Halford, Steve Perry).
I kept it to rock singers because there are so many r&b or pop singers that are amazing talents, but I wouldn't be caught dead listening to them (Celine Dion, Mariah Carey). That's not to say I don't enjoy certain r&b/pop singers.

For sheer talent I don't think there are many guys out there who challenge Jeff Buckley or Freddy Mercury in the genre of rock.

If it is Alex Lifeson I can't tell the difference between him and Geddy. Why would you pick a backing vocalist amongst the best singers?

Personally, although my first ever cd was King for a day- fool for a lifetime (by Faith no More) i do not see why Patton is considered that great of a singer. I find it distastefull how he murders most of the songs live with his voice alteration.
He has a theatrical quality, and a good voice, which combined make him distinctive, but he is not in my view that exceptional in either fields by themselves.

Steven Tyler
Axl Rose
Ian Gillian
Grace Slick
Robert Plant
