Greecemod: Not a Byzwank, Promise (EU4 althist mod creation/discussion thread)

Sure.

All of it could be Hephthalite cultured, which is either Turkic or Iranian depending on what you decide (because no one OTL is sure either), and Catholic.

Grayish-green: Gedrosia
Pinkish: Arachosia
Light blue minor: Ariaspi

If that's the case I think it's a good idea to figure out names right now.

Spoiler :

I believe France encapsulates countries 10-21, so I'll gather what's known about all of them so far here:
10. ??? (Muslim Breton merchant republic)
11. Armorica (Insular; possibly some Asterix refrences for good measure)
12. ??? (Quasayyad)
13. Lutetia (al-Utitya?) (Muslim theocratic order)
14. Pictavia (Biqtavya?) (Quasayyad)
15. Aquitania (al-Kitanya?) (Qusayyad)
16. ??? (Qusayyad)
17. Narbonensis (Qusayyad)
18. ??? (Breton/Muslim)
19. ??? (Breton/Muslim)
20. ??? (Breton/Muslim)
21. Massalia (Muslim pirate republic)

I believe it was determined that all of the Qusayyad states, 13, and 21 were Arab-Breton primary cultured, and the rest were just Breton.

If you want to change any of these, naturally feel free to go ahead and I endorse any such efforts if you ask me (this applies to everyone else working on specific regions as well). I can also find names for the rest if you want.

This is for NC; my suggestions for names. Some of these need Arabization but that's pretty easy and can be done by someone else or by me when I'm not tired.

10. Venelia
11. Armorica
12. Pictonia
13. Lutetia
14. Santonia
15. Aquitania
16. Tolosa
17. Narbonensis
18. Avernia
19. Haeduia
20. Remia
21. Massalia

Edit: A few observations from a few test games.
-AI Bernicia never fails to have an extremely easy time occupying and annexing all of Dal Riada within about 1.5 seconds. I'm thinking of starting Dal Riada in an alliance with either Rheged or Alba just to stop this from happening every game by 1446.
-The French minors seem to actually not be instantly overrun by a horde of 30K Franks, since the Germanics are all distracted with wars in the east. This is very good.
-The Eastern European setup seems to be particularly good at simulating long sequences of very tribal wars. In my opinion the Balkan countries could be stronger - I see Illyria and (now) Gothia get eaten on a regular basis, usually by Greeks. Also poor, poor Prusija. Absolutely hated by everyone.
-North India is just as hilariously unstable as I planned :mwaha: Literally losing one war meant that Gandhara completely collapsed. I need to add more revolters in the area though.
-The Middle East is actually more dynamic than I first thought, which is also a good sign. Same with the al-Gharb.
-West Africa is absolutely beautiful, Cived
-REMOVE TIMURIDS REMOVE TIMURIDS seriously they keep invading Gandhara and it's kind of annoying.

*looks at observergame*
*Alençon charging into battle at the speed of 5 kilometres per nanosecond as Francaland collapses*
Needs a fix.
Also Thrace needs a nerf

And at least two Lesbian colonists are called JoanK :3

Right, so I added a massive culture overhaul for africa.
What I'm thinking is special events for the two Judeoazanian cultures - Issacharid and Zebulunid.
There would be two events because I don't know if paradox likes IFs.
Basically
Requirements:
  • Be Either Issachar/Zebulun
  • Be Jewish
  • Target Province is controlled and cored by Issachar/Zebulun
  • Target Province is Jewish
What it does
  • Changes culture into Issacharid/Zebulunid

Flavor text
It has been a while since our control over PROVINCENAME has been solidified, and with the slow acceptance of Judaism into the local populace we can rightfully consider them part of the Tribe of Issachar/Zebulun.

Okay, so going off that, I want to fill up this mod with hundreds upon hundreds of delicious events (and decisions, and ideas), so anything (even just ideas) is appreciated. So even if you don't even play EU4, feel free to give suggestions!

I had two event (chain) ideas in mind:
-Vikings: It doesn't look as if the Viking Age never really happened in greecemod's TL. I think it'd be a fun idea if in the 1500s we get something along these lines, with something causing coastal provinces anywhere from Spain to Russia to be raided (not sure how this would be represented), and the possibility for Norsemen to colonize places such as Britain, the Low Countries, Baltic coast, etc (and form new countries with changed religion and culture). We could look at other mods' Barbary piracy events for inspiration here, with the possibility to either support the raiders. Also maybe if you're Muslim, you could call for a jihad against them, or some such. There's a lot that can be done with this.
-Migration events: I feel like there should be there should be a way to simulate steppe nations migrating, for instance if their capital is taken. I don't know how to do this though.

I'd feel like its a good idea to get initial scenario done before the new DLC/patch gets released in February, so we don't have to worry about weird conversions with an unfinished scenario?

Probably not a bad idea, I will be working probably tonight and tomorrow to get russia finsihed up.

There's no Viking influence (that I'm aware of) in Germany or Britain or France or Russia or any of the places where there should be, which is why I said that.

My personal headcanon on why Taurimark exists is that a significant number of Norsemen were used as mercenaries or Varangian guard-type deals in the Mediterranean in the first few centuries CE via Ireland (who they traded with?), and eventually they hellenized and settled in the Crimea, managing to drive the locals out. But meh :p

Weather or not the Viking age happened at about the same time OTL, doesn't really matter IMO.

I personally think that the viking age would have happened in "waves" coming and going based on the seasons, but there are also various other reasons they could have been caused.

For one there is the assertion that Charlemagne's wars against the Saxons started the viking age, With no Christian Charlemagne noming up the pagan saxon lands, the vikings wouldn't go on their Pseudo crusade, until the muslim states in gaul start noming up the pagan Germans (if they ever do that).

Another thing is that it could be based on is the weather, and the middle ages warming period, the issue is that currently we are in the little ice age, which could prevent the whole viking age in general.

Additonally an increased popualtion in scandianvia could have forced the Vikings to seek more land.

Finally the viking age could have started from the unification of Scandinavia under Ragnar Lothbrok, with Scandinavia united, Ragnar needed something to keep his empire together, what was that, common enemy, Invade Britian. BAsicly think Ragnar as the Vikings Tokugawa and Britian as the Viking's Korea :p

My personal interpritaiton is that the Viking age did come, at about the same time (~800 CE), but in a far weaker position than OTL.

Lets Say the Roman Empire while close to falling apart, is still relatively strong enough to fend off basic raids, and the muslim influence is limited but growing, having only existed for about 200 years, Islam would have been realitively weaker, unable to conquer and instead expanding more through trade into Rome, the raids don't acutally set up new kingdoms, they mostly just take some gold and leave. Thus no Viking nations are set up or leave their imprint on western Europe.

eventually scandinavia woudl fall apart into various warring tribes once again, the viking age would continue but much more limited, Fast forward to ITTL 1444 Norway controls most of Scandinavia, only the danes remain indepdent. Norway unites the Scandinavian peoples. What now? Viking age part 2.

In my opinion the viking age happened more as simple raids than colonization in the west, and even if they did colonize, it would have been limited, and instead they would have focused more on Iceland, Greenland, and Vinland, which explains why Vinland still exists. Colonization was focused more on the New World than Europe, as Europe was realtivley stable and united (compared to OTL)

Eventually something would have happened that "stoped" the viking age, OTL this was the Christianization, ITTL it could be anything, probably internal fighting or the fact that enough people have left that there is enough land again, eventually though they would start back up, and the cycle continues endlessly until something outright stops it.

this is just my interpretation though. :p

I think we should be able to release a very incomplete yet playable alpha in the next week. All that's left as far as I know is:
-Cleaning up North Asia (Can do tomorrow)
-Indonesia (Can do over weekend)
-South America (I don't know)
-Gaul  (SABER IS HENCEFORTH DECLARED AN ENEMY OF THE SUN AND OF THE BUDDHA)

Okay I know how that sounds but in all sincerity I really do want to thank everyone who has helped with this so far!

Here is what was ultimately finalized re: tech groups.
-(Western) Hellenistic: The Greek countries.
-(Eastern) Persian: Covers the Christian world, that being Arabia, Levant, Mesopotamia, and Persia, as well as a number of neighboring countries like Rome and Scythia.
-(Ottoman) Islamic: Covers the Muslim (and Celtic!) worlds, that being North Africa and Western Europe.
-(Muslim) Indian: India, SE Asia, Indonesia - basically everywhere Indian cultural influence was strongest.
-(Indian) Seric: East Asia from Nam Yuet northwards, including Korea and Japan
-(Chinese) European: The pagans of Europe east of Gaul.
-Nomads, Sub-Saharan, the New World groups etc. stay the same.

Eventually IMO we're going to have to figure out a way to switch tech groups independent of vanilla westernization, because there are about 1/4 as many western-equivalent countries as there are in vanilla, and none of them really do a ton of colonizing.
