Steam Power is due in 1 turn. we should start building our rail net when it is done being researched. Continue to ship legions from Sirium to Lisht. We have 225 legions now.

Great progress! How did you lose so few units attacking the egypt cities? Didn't they have at least 3 muskets in them, or did their supply run dry after losing the salpeter source?

The roster:

Vizurok - on deck
Bede
grs
conehead234 - just played
barbslinger - up next

Most cities had 1 muskets, then pikes or spears. I expect Greece to have alot more muskets.

Egyptian Front

Looking pretty good. I think that the big Egyptian cities are going to need a concentration of 10-15 legions each to conquer. And when it is Alexs turn I would like to march on his large cities first with 30 legions each. Alex will take some regrouping many legions under the legion armies.
Looking forward to this. Will play tonight.

Just looked at the save and I have a lot of work. Looks like Spanish will be eliminated during my turns and then I can just leave a token force up there with one rail line from end to end and a couple of boats. Too bad they didn't get any lux. The rest are going to regroup a bit. Pentagon is due in 2 so that will increase our army strength. Check that. I don't think PTW gets the bonus. Does someone know? After steam I have to reorganize the workers to rail towns to get to 30spt and a military railnet from cities to coast. I hit enter to see what was up and Canton is an Iron works. Will have to do some math to even see if it will need it to reach 30spt without it. This may be the 1st game where it isn't needed. After Pentagon comes in I may put research on MT and a city on Mil Acad prebuild. More armies can't hurt.
Well, Railnet coming up and if I knock out Cleo, which I hope, I would suggest a brief period of peace to regroup forces and plot a strat.
Does anyone know for sure if armies will be attacked in the field. I'm thinking of putting legions under the armies to march on 3 or 4 of his biggest cities and then hitting him hard. Another thing I have read is that if the AI is alone, no other AI's, on his continent he will attack armies so I may leave Cleo with one city until the end. Perhaps that tundra city.

Leave cleo the city up north in former spanish territory and group ships around it, so she'll never leave it. As far as I know pentagon "only" adds one slot to the armies in PTW - no strenght bonus like in C3C.
What Greebley had discovered, in C3C, was that if an AI is ALONE on his continent, it will attack an army. He had beed running around pillaging without the AI even looking at him and when he destroyed the other AI, the remaining AI began attacking his armies.
We'll see how it plays out.
On railing it will take most of my turns to get the workers even close to our core. In the future, planning should take place to mobilize the workers into position a few turns before rails come in. Lots of workers are clearing jungle around cities that don't mean squat.

Grs01 1250AD
Preturn – I check all worker orders and take about 70% off what they were doing. All those will be reorganized for heavy railnet and then getting cities to 15 shields and 30 shields. Like I said before the Spanish are thru. I spend 10 minutes with the science slider lowered to get steam in 2 and then try to get it with scientists. No dice so I have to reset them all. 5 minutes later we’re making about 40gpt more than having all scientists and slider goes back up for steam in 1. There are workers clearing a jungle on the other continent that does not have a city within 10 tiles? Time for a rail line boys! It looks like Najran will fal and then a regrouping for Thebes.

IT – Lose 3 legions and beat 1 LB. Build 15 legions and 5 workers.

[1] 1255 – Spanish capital Zaragoza falls no loss, keep it. Najran falls with 3 losses, destroyed. I hurry the court in Sirmium so I can hurry a harbor there next. Need to up grade the caravels to galleons. This hasn’t been done yet? Most workers are in transit. I have maybe 12 workers going at it and it looks like the first railroad tie will go down on the other continent from that group that was clearing a jungle. Canton goes to an iron works project and ejing goes to a prebuild for MilAcad.

IT – Lose 2 legions. Pentagon comes in. Time to load the armies up. Build 8 legions and a couple workers. I’m skimming.

[2] 1260 – Spanish are destroyed. Going to leave all workers and about 1 army and 10 legions behind. Others heading for ports. First rail goes down in Bejing and then the other continent. Scanned our lands and saw a MDA and a musket building.

IT – Lose 2 legions. Build 11.

[3] 1265 – Shoot! An Egypt pike with 1 hp left came out of the fog N of our exOttoman holdings. He’s one tile away and we have ONE legion to cover the 3 cities! I rush legions in the other 2 and hope he does not destroy it. Avaris falls at a lose of 5 legions vs a musket, knight and a pike. I capture a catapult. Are we allowed to have these? I’ll send it to our beachhead. Roading crews are starting to form up for leap frogging. I had previously set all workers in Otto lands to port also. That land is crap. I have 2 galleons bringing about 20 slaves or more back to mainland. Well does he burn it or keep it?

IT – Lose on legion. He kept it! It will be ours soon. Build 16 legions and 2 harbors. We have 256 legions and 123 workers. If I could just get those workers and slaves in position we would be set. I’m hoping to have the rail line set up.

[4] 1270 – I have started some IC builds too to knock the Greek ships out of the water when we start transporting to that war. We retake Konya and set up a couple a scientists for after MilTrad comes in. I’m going straight cash then. I take a remote, newly founded Egyptian city that was getting silks nad get a leader. He’s going home for the MilAcad. Or we could put a palace in ex Spanish territory and make all our cities profitable. A SirPleb article showed me that neat trick. The palace rank exploit. He’s going home none the less. I changed my mind due to the length of the trip, he’s an army.

IT – Lose 1 legion, gain 9. Egypt lands a MDI near Barcelona on the far tip of France. I had already sent a group down there but they won’t make it there in time. I have one legion to beat him with.

[5] 1275 - He wins flawlessly. No leader though. Roading and regrouping troops. Also doing some pillaging trying to drop the population.

IT – Lose 2 legions, kill 1 knight and Barcelona gets sacked by a barb horse. Work on temple is destroyed.

[6] 1280 – Railnet is from east coast to Rome now with spurs going up towards the launch point at Byzantium and almost from China to Washington. It will go quickly now that almost all the workers are on it. I have also done a little extra to our MilAcad and Ironworks cities. I have a couple galleons going to get some Spanish fighters and I just dropped off a load in Egypt. Cleo is out of salt and her iron is soon to come.

IT – Win one, lose one. 11 Legions built and more workers.

[7] 1285 - We raze Giza (1 of 2 irons) and put 4 slaves on a boat. The mighty Thebes falls at a cost of 6 legions vs. 4 muskets. Heliopolis was down to 1 2hp musket. I was impatient and didn’t wait. Take about 16 at a pop for big cities. I also have a rail line coming from eastern Greece to Egypt. That will get those troops to Greece Asap when we need them.

IT - I reg legion successfully defends against 2 LB’s and goes elite! Nice work. 8 legions and 2 IC’s are built. We make 630gpt and I’m busy rushing things too. Markets, galleons and IC’s. Legions are 2 and 3 turns apart in a lot of cities and Rome is doing 1 turn.

[8] 1290 – We take Heliopolis and the great lighthouse! 5 resistors out of 12. I raze another. Al-Raizza or something like that. Cleo is down to 3 continental cities. Roading continues. I’m placing legions on our rail line to keep the Greeks off of it.

IT – Make another load of legions.

[9] 1295 - Pi-Ramesses falls losing 2 legions. Cleo is out of gas. Memphis will fall next turn and then next leader can take down Elephantine. Cleo still has an island W of ex-Spain.

IT – No losses. Built 14 legions, 2 IC’s, a galleon and an aqueduct. ROP with Grecce end.

[10] Gems are colonized. 1st attack on Memphis takes 1 army to 3/18 and he won the last 3 hits. Thought he was a goner. 2 more army shots and Memphis is razed. The balance heads back to the rail line going to Greece.

Cleo’s last continental city WILL fall easy once you get there. I would start moving everyone towards Greece. I have all the old westcoast galleons coming around and will be with you in about 4 turns. I would spend some time mapping out which cities you want to hit and take an army with about 20 legions and head in. Try to coordinate it so that they hit about the same time. It should be a walk now. We have 292 legions. That’s a lot od butt whippin’. The rail net is complete and I have been working on getting town to either 30spt or 15spt or 10 spt. Go down F1 listing to see which ones need the work. There were a lot of reg legions popping out during my turn. I noticed after a few turns and then started pausing after each build to check if the town needed rax. There are a few of those going now.
This game is toast. We should have named it Legions in Space. We could do it easily.

Cleo's ex lands. Notice the picket line that is the railroad. There are a lot of legions in Egypt. I just dropped about 28 and the army where Memphis was has about 30. Nanking is the harbor I have about half the galleons heading to. There are 30 legions waiting for orders there. The rails make life a lot easier.

Nice job, 'slinger and conehead.

I love you, barbslinger, too! :)
I want to know your opinions about the Last Strike against Greece, so write what do you think. I'll write mine later evening (GMT +1). I'm sure we will win it!

The best: 4 techs to the industrials: metallurgy and physichs-way
The good: The Greeks ae researching with only 40%
The bad: if they are lucky, they will get nationalism as a free tech (I know that's already known, but I need something to the bad)
The ugly: They have 7 muskets in Athens (building another), around 3 in the others...
It will be tough!

Ok, here are my thoughts in a nutshell. We have quite a few cities popping legions every 2 turns. In the next 10 tens we should be able to produce about 40-50 legions per 3turns using cities that have rails to make them 10,15 or 30spt. We can get the legions from build city to the continent in battle in 2 turns ocean transit. We have 292 legions. There is no way we should lose this.
I think once Cleo is gone off the continent we need to set up just a bit. She still has an island city that a boat in Barcelona needs to do something about and I think a city up north so keepstarving cities. If we can get a settler over there all the better. Abandon her crap. I digress. Get that rail line built and fortify our 2 cities next to Athens. Get the army coming down from Spain over to the city near atens and load him with a 4th. Put 30 legions in Nanking under the army and declare and then march straight to Athens and take it. The 100 or so in the south can split themselves into groups of 30 and under an army sweep NW towards the core. Keep legions travelling through mountain, hills once in enemy territory. We will win this. Probably in 15-20 turns. Even bad RNP can't beat our attrition rate. Keep looking for cities to retile and railroad to get to 10,15 and 30spt. More galleons in the coastal cities to be rushed. A few more IC escorts will help too.
Have fun, but be patient. If you have 8 legions to attack with but there are 20 right behind him wait until they all get together. You may lose 3-4 on IT but 20 some are better to attack with. The muskets take about 2 legions a piece to kil and occasionally 3.

Come on Vizurok! I'm waiting to read that Egypt is down to the island city and the Greek melee' has begun.

I'll pick it up now but can't play until tonight. (midnight GMT) So if an EU member can play before, I can follow.
