[GS] GS impressions/random observations thread.

Lost my settler to a Haboob. My first unit lost. I won't complain disasters aren't strong enough anymore. Or at least not for a while. I think my disaster setting is at 2 (the default) as I forgot to check it before starting my game. Losing a settler hurts. And that was a hard built settler sped up by a Magnus chop.

Do not have a big fight on floodplains... I just lost 2 warriors and Mali lost 2

dodging storms is actually quite difficult. But I think maybe they show the direction in the climate change panel? I forgot to check it. In addition to my settler I lost a crossbowmen.

Annoying they don't give me a message for a unit lost. Hopefully they can fix this later. I moved my crossbowmen out of the city to what I thought was a safe spot, but next turn he was gone. :( Losing a settler and a crossbowmen is rough.

It's amazing to me how many people played a whole or close to a whole game over one night. That usually takes me a week or so.

Perhaps they chose quick or online speed.

Only played a handful of Inca turns on emperor and so far im having fun. Had to remove all my mods (I used a TON like good goody huts, terra mirrabilis, moar units/buildings, religion/city states expanded and a lot more) but not noticing it that much. The production queue is fantastic but emperor seems a lot easier than I remember, normally play on deity but everyone is so friendly!

Terrace farms are fantastic, haven't built an incan tunnel yet but that will come soon. Have gotten an envoy from a hut and despite everyone saying barbs are insane I havent run into one yet after 30 turns. Great bath is the new Stonehenge in how fast its built. Haven't run into many disasters other than seeing a Tornado in someone elses territory and I have them set to 3 frequency. Managed to get earth goddest as a pantheon which was very nice and a first for me when not using good goody huts.

So far im enjoying it. Canada will be my next Civ to try.

I REALLY hope CS start with walls mod still works because they get conquered just as fast unfortunately

Just started up a game as Maori on archipelago map and played for a bit... woooooooow, these guys are just broken, lol. At least on this type of map. I think I got first meet on like 6 citystates, and very quckly to boot. Then once you settle, you can just crank out settlers. I don't think I'll play this one out, it feels unfair.

I find the Sahara el-Beyda pairs rather well with Petra.

I bungled my planned monumentality push by not having enough faith, but the Cothon boost to settlers is a plus. I have a smattering of colonies now, but the move capital project is a little expensive. So I’m going to launch a knight raid into Scotland to establish myself instead.

I’ve got a ton of trade routes now so gold income is healthy. I was first to circumnavigate the Earth of course, but had to wait for Leif Erikson’s assistance due to a lack of navigable waterways. On the right map, you could do it with biremes before the classical era.

The World Congress has been surprisingly diverting. I still think the voting system is nonsense but it does shake things up a bit.

INCAS! OMG!!! THEY'RE SOOOOOO POWERFUL!!!! OMGGGGGGG!!!!!! THEY'RE EVEN BETTER THAN NUBIA!!!!!! OMG.

They're like Nubia but with a Cree economy.

So far, so good. I like the surprise natural events a lot. Really brings the map to life. I think this shows signs of being a keeper.

Now I have to look up what type of colour blind I am. I just know it as red-green (not that I can't tell the dif between most reds & greens...bygones lol).
Really stoked they went to the effort to make it work for people with different versions of colour blindness though. That is going above and beyond :goodjob:

Huzzah! I now know (thanks to Firaxis) that I am a "Strong Deutan". Looks like I'll use the second option.

Edit: And WOW, what a difference. Phoenicia is now (what I see as) purple! And they changed out the primary Persian colours, I guess as to me they were too close. It was odd - Persian, Phoenicia, and the Mapuche all looked very similar; and now the latter two don't at all, even though they retain the same jerseys.

It is jarring over all though...it may take a bit of getting used to.

I thought the same exact thing till about turn 100.
That is when the novelty started to wear off for me :)
I thought they said you couldn't chop anymore.
Seems chopping is the same with less or no overflow.

LOL you are getting a divorce and remarried!

It's a sickness.
You should run away and not look back.
Lest you turn into a pillar of salt!

Started my first game as Dido today and figuered that chopping settlers with her unique harbour districts should be very powerful. I found out though, that the 150% bonus (card, harbour, ancestral hall) from the chop is not carried into the next building. I have not yet tested if they even changed it so that there are no multiplicators for chopping other than magnus or just fixed the overflow exploit, does anyone know more on this topic? Was this announced? I have been away for most of Rise n fall. :)

Yes. That was announced early and confirmed in the patch notes. Production bonuses no longer apply to production going into overflow.

I get the feeling Firaxis cranked up the barbarians to make the early game challenging. Because it wouldn't be without them.
