Guess the Map II: witty sequel titles failed me

With your british institution thing, i was thinkin about things like scout association, sports, media, but what have chile canada and panama that china don't have (while china have something that the formers don't) whereas france get both?

is it link to tea?

Is it the royal family's vacation homes?

Not quite; I think my use of the word has thrown people off in part. It's not directly an organisation, but it's something that people think of when they think of the UK.

maybe countries that UK fought with(green)/against(blue) in a war red being both?

Nothing to do with war.

Tea? The Queen? The Navy? Industry? Bad horrible food? Stock Exchange?

Tea? The Queen? The Navy? Industry? Bad horrible food? Stock Exchange?

Related words: Her Majesty the Queen, the Navy (I'd be surprised if people got that one), and the ____ industry.

I'm ashamed of all of you, by the way. Still, those clues should have made the answer easier. Yes, considerably.

Hm... is it related to any of the following points then? (assuming the wikipedia page svalbard is correct)

* Taxation: This allows taxes to be collected, but only enough to support Svalbard and the Svalbard government. This results in lower taxes than mainland Norway and the exclusion of any taxes on Svalbard supporting Norway directly. Also, Svalbard's revenues and expenses are separately budgeted from mainland Norway.

* Environmental conservation: Norway must respect and preserve the Svalbard environment

* Non-discrimination: All citizens and all companies of every nation under the treaty are allowed to become residents and to have access to Svalbard including the right to fish, hunt or undertake any kind of maritime, industrial, mining or trade activity. The residents of Svalbard must follow Norwegian law though Norwegian authority cannot discriminate or favor any residents of a certain nationality.

* Military restrictions: Article 9 prohibits naval bases and fortifications and also the use of Svalbard for war-like purposes. It is, however, not entirely demilitarized.

Couldn't be less related. Everyone so far has looked at it from the wrong angle. There's (to my knowledge) nothing connecting the countries marked except the answer.

Svalbard is coloured correctly, Hainan should be part of China.

Rule: if a dependancy is coloured but the mainland is not, it's correct. If it's the other way around, it means I forgot it or didn't fancy colouring in every little 1-pixel island. I did try to get most of it right.

Not half as bad as these games consoles. Who the hell decided to simulate driving a car using your thumbs?

Something to do with the Royal Yacht Britannia?

Is it a legal land concept? Both Svalbard and Western Sahara are terra nullus (sp) and it looks like you took pains to show Egypt's land disputes with Sudan, including that weird bit which extends south of the border but isn't claimed. Kashmir is also not assigned to anyone, despite Pakistan and India both being assigned.

Er... that's my fault. Western Sahara and Morocco were linked together; only Morroco is highlighted. Kashmir isn't highlighted because to be bluntly honest it's not marked on cery clearly and I can't tell exactly where it is, but seeing as I didn't think it as important I left it off. Egypt is highlighted, Sudan is not.

And you're miles off. It's nothing at all political or even 'serious'.

Actually Svalbard is an integral part of Norway (not a dependency) with the small caveats i've listed. Given that all other borders/colours seem to follow national borders it seems strange that it should be separately coloured unless it has to do with the aforementioned points.

This is driving me bonkers. Hint? :(

Sorry guys. You might be a little shaken to hear what it was, but I doubt anyone will be really stirred. Do you expect me to talk about the answer? Good job I haven't limited the number of guesses, or I'd say you'd had your six. Still can't guess? You're joking. Well, you can't win 'em all.

Anybody?

Places where James Bond movies and/or books have taken place? Probably wrong because I can't see the connection to the navy.
