Guess the Map II: witty sequel titles failed me

No. As an additional hint, the lightest blue is X's historical distribution; the 3 darker blues are where X still exists.

There's only a tiny Indian population of 300 lions outside sub-Saharan Africa. You're on the right track.

This. It's Cheetahs.

Yes, it's cheetahs. Light blue is their former range, the darker shades of blue correlate to their population densities in their remaining range. The poor Asiatic cheetah is nearly extinct, only maybe a hundred left running around in central Iran

If anyone's curious, unlike lions whose former range really does cover the Americas, the extinct American cheetah wasn't related to the African counterpart, but was a product of convergent evolution. Their closest relative was the cougar.

Wow, I never realised there was an Asiatic Cheetah, I always thought they were limited to Africa, at least through the last few mellenia.
I guess it makes sense though, there was no real reason not to be.

That's actually really kinda cool. Maybe we should support the reintroduction of Asiatic Cheetahs into Saudi Arabai to keep the native population down
