Yes, it's cheetahs. Light blue is their former range, the darker shades of blue correlate to their population densities in their remaining range. The poor Asiatic cheetah is nearly extinct, only maybe a hundred left running around in central Iran
If anyone's curious, unlike lions whose former range really does cover the Americas, the extinct American cheetah wasn't related to the African counterpart, but was a product of convergent evolution. Their closest relative was the cougar.
Wow, I never realised there was an Asiatic Cheetah, I always thought they were limited to Africa, at least through the last few mellenia.
I guess it makes sense though, there was no real reason not to be.
Edit: There are 2 errors,
one country which is not colored should be and one country which is colored should not be (and replaced with another country)
