Edit: RRRaskolnikov was faster.

number of time zones within the country

Well obviously this is during non daylight saving time, since right now Australia has five timezones. We have AEDT, AEST, ACDT, ACST and AWST. S that can change if it is daylight savings or not. Just thought I put that out there.

Well in case it is it, here is simple map. I hope it hasn't been done already. :)

Perhaps it's the future where Japan is underwater, the Aral sea is dried out and Czechoslovakia is reunited.

Which means you did the map wrong- the US has 6 time zones, not 5. :p

It depends on whether Hawaii counts. I think it does but if overseas territories count than French Guiana and the Falklands would boost the UK and France up to two. I'm not completely sure how well of a comparison that is. Hawaii is more of a part of the US than those two are of their motherlands.

No it doesn't, because it is clear that Alaska counts, to get 5, and part of Alaska, the Aleutians, is in the same time zone as Hawaii. Though you could probably add 5 or 6 more with varius overseas territories.

France would probably have around a dozen if you include all its territories (pretty sure it has the most under this consideration), or with just the departments 5 (Guiana, Martinique/Guadeloupe, Mayotte, Reunion).

For Britain, yes, but France's departments are all equal, whether they are in Europe or not, just like the US states.

WARNING: this map completley ignores islands & small countries, because i'm lazy.
If i would have counted islands the US would've had 10 time zones, not 6. (Hawaii, American Samoa, Howard Island, Wake Island, Guam).

And god knows how many timezones the UK,France etc has.

It's funny that i have to teach an american how many timezones the US has.

EDIT: x-post with say

Well, that's what I meant, and I thought it weird that you counted Alaska but not the Aluetian Islands or Hawaii.

Both Alaska and Konigsberg are close enough to the main territory and not islands or "overseas" territory.

EDIT: for spelling !

French Guiana is as much a part of France as Hawaii is. I think it's fine to exclude territories like Guam or the Falklands but France probably should have had 5 zones... one for French Guiana (-3) another for Guadeloupe, and Martinique (-4), one for Mayotte (+3) and the last for Réunion (+4).

Those are all as part of France as metropolitan France is.
