Guess the New Civs

I think you entirely missed my point about adding another female leader.

I don't think Wu Zetian, Theodora, or certainly Dido are the best choices for China, Byzantium, or Carthage, respectively, but they (at least arguably) are good enough choices to merit consideration. Maria Theresa is certainly at least in this category.

The only female leaders that can even be argued to be the "best" choice are Catherine and Boudicca and, for the Celts, that's only due to lack of unification.

I think you could even argue Catherine being the best. The only real clear female choice is Boudicca. I always preferred the multiple leader format of Civ 4 myself.

On the other hand for example Hatshepsut as an Egyptian leader would make a lot of sense. Also you didnt mention Isabella who is pretty good choice for Spain.

I don't mind the female leader choices, with the exception of Carthage. Any choice other than Hannibal just seems strange.

Woops, forgot Isabella. I'd probably argue she's the best as well.

Hatshepsut suffers from not being very well-known.

In regards to leader criteria, it seems like popularity or at least public recognition counts highly too.

In that category, Elizabeth I and Victoria are the 2 top choices for England and Cleopatra is at least in the top 2 for Egypt. And Cleo was chosen as the Egyptian leader for the board game version of civ V interestingly enough.

Churchill will always be my vote for England. Guy was a boss.

I have to disagree. He was a war criminal, who caused the expansion of WW II and ordered the slaughter of millions of civilians. There is no reason to have any respect for a man like that. I see him as one of the worst leaders of history.

You should read the book Churchill, Hitler and the Unnecessary War. Your views might change.

If slaughtering millions of civilians disqualifies someone, we're going to have a very short leader list.

Churchill caused the fall of British Empire. Why should we have a leader like that in the game. Dont believe the hype. Churchill was a terrible leader.

You don't need to count that to discount Churchill entirely from being a candidate for british leadership.

He was:
1) Arrogant to the point he didn't campaign for reelection
2) Constantly drunk
3) Racist
4) Colonialist - yet effectively signed away british colonies

And the list goes on

Oh, I agree that he's probably overrated (like JFK over here).

He's not just overrated, he's completely the opposite of his representation in modern media. He's glorified as the greatest leader of Britain when he's actually of the belief that everyone who isn't white or rich doesn't belong in his empire.

At least Kennedy didn't believe in pseudo-feudalism.

People often overlook the bad sides of a leader if he won a war his country. Churchill, Stalin, Thatcher, Justinian and many more get praised for winning a war and their mistakes and failures get overlooked. While decent leaders often get called bad and incompetent only because they weren't good military men and lost wars, even if those wars were insignificant.

There are 3 civs left,if we are going to chose them by regions that don't have many civs I think it could be one of these:
Sub-Saharan Africa
Ethiopia,Kongo,Zimbabwe or (bad choice) Zulu

North America
Sioux,Mississipi,Apache...

South East Asia
Vietnam,Indonesia,Khmer,Burma

Central Asia
Tibet,Kazakhstan,Dzungaria

Europe is overcrowded and does not need new civs by my opinion.

I found a blank world map and then colored in all the areas with civs from ciV. And I noticed blank spots in these regions...

Polar Arctic(canada, greenland, etc.),South America, Caribbean, all of Africa, central Asia, Indonesia/Australia, and east Europe ( between Germany and Russia)

So IMO the final 3 are.....
1. Zulu or Ethiopia :):):):):):):):):) I LOVE the Ethiopians in Ryhe's and Fall on cIV
2. Gran Colombia w/ Simon Bolivar OR Brazil, a modern major world power in economics
3. finally *drumroll please* the polish or the Majapahit of Indonesia both are new to the civ series.

Try to fill the blank spots with city-states as well(including city-states already confirmed to G&K expansion) .

My bets are Zulu and Ethiopia to represent Sub-Saharan Africa and Brazil to represent Eastern area of South America .
