Guns or butter?

I will take freedom, errrr, guns.

Guns are more cool, I don't like butter all by itself, I only like it with some other foods, like toast for instance. I vote guns. And yes, my post was a political metaphor for what I would really want.

I would take the butter but make it painfully clear that I would destroy all the butter out of spite rather than hand it over to an aggressor.

Depends on the location of this country. If my neighbors were the types to conquer and enslave, I would certainly prefer safety to luxury. On the other hand, if I were in a region of good alliances and safe neighbors, I'd take the butter.

I voted Guns.

The downside of not having a capable military is that your nation will always be completely impotent on the world stage, as international power still comes almost exclusively from the barrel of a gun. The olive branch only works if the recipient is aware that you have a fairly large gun in your holster. Without a well equipped, sufficiently large military with the capability for forward deployment to almost anywhere in the world, kiss any respect internationally goodbye. You will be a laughing stock, reduced to the butt of jokes by stand up comedians in the clubs.

Uhhh, Japan?

Mayoneise for the Win!!!.........closely followed by guns.:crazyeye:

Guns as I would be able to use the guns to aquire the butter for all my people.

i voted butter nut now irealize i should have chosen guns.
"any society which shall give away a little guns for a little butter will deserve neither and lose both"

ugh...Guns and take the world butter supply. Trade, make everyone gracious to me, and win by UN vote err...

You live in a country that is not rich enough to have a first rate standard of living and a capable military.
What is the political and military situation of the region of the world in which the country is situated?

If the country is reasonably safe due to being in a stable part of the world and/or alliances, then butter.

If the country has relatively few alliances and is in an unstable area, then guns... butter will just make the country an even more inviting target.

That is all assuming the government handles the butter side of the equation.

That said a butter economy to be sure. Does anyone invade the Swiss? Prosperity and neutrality are the best ways to go about things.

If you dont have enough guns to protect your butter...you will soon have neither....
...but if you spend too much on the guns, you won't have anything left worth protecting....

anyway, pass me the butter please (though Mayonnaise was tempting too)
