Happiness towards next celebration

I often get narrative choices involving happiness towards the next celebration during a celebration. Does anyone know whether, if you make that selection, the happiness is lost, or whether it is applied after the current celebration is over?

It is not lost, and you can chain multiple Celebrations this way.

For narrative events...unless there is something situationally much better...my default choice is usually the happiness option.

Celebrations are generally quite powerful to use as not only do they give the buff but also the main way to unlock social policy slots.

I assume the usual "per-turn-happiness-overflow" accumulates during an ongoing celebration as well then? If so, then it is a good decision to avoid any MM need (though it is less nice that this isn't just flat out told by the UI...)
