<deep sigh>Nevermind. This is going to drive me to drink. I can't figure out why it is crashing randomly. Sometimes it will crash 15 turns in. Sometimes I can play through the entire game with no problems. I DON'T GET IT!:mad:
 
Hopefully someone can help you soon, but if not I'll take a look in 8-10 hours when I get home. From experience most of the CTDs I've faced are from incorrectly tagged ART_DEFINE lines. Any chance something is getting built somewhere that is improperly referenced?

Rock on, I hadn't thought to work with the ART_DEFINE files. I will take a look at those and see if anything is up. Thank you so much woodelf. :)

<edit>I had deleted the other civilizations from the CIV4ArtDefines_Civilization files including the Barbarians. I put them all back in now, but I don't have time to test it tonight, but could that have been what was wrong?</edit>

Draco is not in here for the same reason that Snape is not in here. I didn't want to have book 6 spoilers. Though, now that I think about it, that is a really lame reason not to have them in the mod. I think I will at least put in Draco into the Death Eaters (for now). Snape will probably go into the OoTP (for now).

Maybe I will just make a fifth civilization titled "J.K. quit screwing with our heads...please."

You definitely should keep the barbs in the civ XML files. Between that and ART_DEFINES issues that is very well the cause of crashing.

I didn't get a chance to look at it since we had a snowstorm that turned a 35 minutes drive home into an 80 minute trip and I wanted to get the patch to the SotM out. Is it working now?
 
I've often thought about a Harry Potter mod myself, but from a different angle. For me, Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix can't be translated into civilizations. I mean, they don't found cities, they don't research technologies, they don't tax their citizens etc. I was thinking of considering a whole alternative Harry Potter-based history with different wizarding traditions for the different civs. So you could look into the concepts of magic for different real-life cultures and make them the basis of the civilizations. So there would be the British/Celtic wizards led by Merlin, and maybe the Shamans for another civ. I had quite a few other ideas but I don't think I can spare the time to make it :(
 
Yeah, I thought about that too lumpthing. For me this is not so much something that makes sense in terms of the books. It is more just something to have fun with. The "war" refered to in JK's books is not a war in the sense of armies etc. It is an internal struggle between good and evil. This mod is more just to give a HP flavor to Civilizaiton 4.

Speaking of, I am nearly through the tech tree developement phase. Once I get this section of the mod debugged and working fully (no crashes), I will start coding the techs.

It was the art files. I am now 99% sure. I have played through the game several times, with no problems. I am going to update the link at the top of this thread. Will you do me a favor and redownload it and play through it?

Also I updated the pictures for He who must not be named, Fenrir Greyback, and Dolores Umbridge.
 
PM me when you post the new link and I'll test drive it out. Now I'm going to have to reread the entire set again. ;) A nice sweet niche Mod going here Sailor.
 
No kidding about Filegone. I just had to upload the patch to SotM at YouSendIt via dial-up... :( I am currently downloading the Harry Potter mod as we type. :woohoo:
 
Everything installed fine. The flags and LHs all work and look terrific. There are a lot of leaders per civ. Maybe you could have lesser civs and spread them out? I don't recall, but I think you plan on all of the Houses, yes? Also, what about the foreign Houses listed in the Goblet of Fire?

Are you planning on redoing any of the tech tree, buildings, or units? Or simply have Harry Potter use our world? Either way works for me. I might suggest limiting your mod to 2-3 eras. There's no need to go Modern.

What about UUs? Those could be cool.

Forgive me if I'm stating things you've already decided, but I think this has potential if you don't try to do too much. Let me know what you need help with and I'll see what I can do.

:) I am glad you like it. Yes, there are alot of plans in the works for this mod. I made the decision to make few civilizations and many leaders on kindof a whim. It just made sense to me. I could split it up into more denominations within each side, but in the end I think it would amount to the same thing.

I have considered bringing in the foreign powers and I probably will little by little.

Yes, the tech tree is next in my sights. I already have most of the techs planned out. After that, the units and buildings will follow. Wonders will be things like "The Chamber of Secrets" and "St. Mungo's". Techs will be things along the lines of "Advanced Potions" and "Goblen Relations". Units will include dementors, giants, wizards, etc. Buildings will include training grounds, workshops, labs, and things like that.

Unique Units will be coming too of course. Aurors and Death Eaters etc.

All of this is in the planning stages. I still haven't figured out how to do half of it. :)

Don't worry about posting things I have already decided on. My plans are up to changing. I welcome any input you have, and will probably call on you at some point for you help. At very least I think I would like to have you beta testing future additions to the mod.
 
ohh, and one more thing I have kindof decided on. Muggle studies techs would open the door to a few of our world's stuff. Like Railroads (Hogwarts Express anyone?) Eventually I may even give limited access to nukes. Mainly because who hasn't wanted to see He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named nuke London?

basically all of their classes. :)

You could upgrade their wands and defense/attack/power based on grade level. Maybe the eras are years in Hogwarts? Could be truly awesome any direction you take.
