Psychic_Llamas and gianfrancozola, those are some seriously freakin good ideas.
P.L. - Much thought has been given to other races, after phase 3 I would like ot have included: Goblins, Trolls, Giants, Dragons, Hippogryphs, Redcaps, Kappas, Sphinxes, and a couple other HP things that elude me for the time being.
G.F. - Religions have been something I have been struggling with for sometime now. The book never has any real "religions" in it. (Though, there are a great many scholorly essays on the topic of the religious overtones (or lack there of) in JK Rowlings work) What I have basically settled on is 5 "ways of thought" rather than religions. They are:
Via Vitae - The Way of Life - Placing focus on the preservation of life above all else. Can be either a good thing (the mercy of people like Lupin and Dumbledore) or a bad thing (You-Know-Who's obsession for immortality).
Via Spiritui - The Way of the Spirit - A focus on the spiritual aspect of life and magic. Focuses on the interaction between living things and the world around them. Think Professor Sprout, Hagrid, or Bellatrix (who would robs people of their spirits).
Via Portente - The Way of Power - Pretty self-explanitory. Sounds bad, I know, but not always. Think of the search for strength, both in terms of Harry's struggle for survival and the defeat of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, or, in contrast, people like Rodolphus, who follow You-Know-Who for even a taste of his power.
Via Media - The Middle Way - A middle road, for people who don't like to get involved in such nonsense. People like Professor Slughorn, who try to stay out of things for their own safety, or for people like the centaurs who believe that fate is pre-determined and our meddling is futile.
Via Nihil - The Way of Nothingness - Morality is not a problem in either direction, all that matters your individual goals. This is the only one where there are no two sides to the matter. This is for people who are purely destructive both to self and surroundings. Think people like Fenrir Greyback, or the blonde death eater in book 6 who doesn't care who he killed, friend or foe.
Eventually these religions will tie to special techonologies, buildings, units, and even bonuses to cities and players.
I know I am streching in some of these. The problem is that JK never settles this sort of thing in the books. It would be rather nice though if in one chapter she just kind-of
The reaction was immediate and predictable. Cho's friend shrieked and slopped Butterbeer down herself; Terry Boot gave a kind of involuntary twitch; Padma Patil shuddered, and Neville gave an odd yelp that he managaed to turn into a cough. All of them, however, looked fixedly, even eagerly at Harry, who immediatly got up and left, because it was time for mass, and he is Anglican of course. (Rowling, 303)(sort of)
Ahhh well, there is always book 7.
<edit>The new mod pack update will be posted as soon as I get off my lazy duff and put in the movies for Religion discover and Shrine building.</edit>
