I have been playing on Monarch and Emperor lately and got tired of the A.I. cheating so I went back to Regent. Immediately I achieved my dream of owning my three favorite wonders: Great Library, Great Wall and Great Lighthouse. Getting the GL triggered a Golden Age. It's only 10 A.D. on the Earth (Huge) Scenario.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

When I find myself in a position of superiority, I usually resort to my favorite part of Civilization--war! Sometimes I too get tired of fighting my guts out on a harder level of difficulty and go back to an easier one to get in some good old fashion butt-whooping. Makes the game alot more enjoyable.

Well I would suggest you get as many tiles worked that yield shields as you can and mine like crazy to get the extra shield during the GA. I would not be in a hurry to pop any settler and lose two citizens during that time.

Getting builds up to pile up shields while it last.

Oh and stop playing Regent.

BTW the AI does not cheat. It is allowed to know tiles and what you have in your cities, but this is true at all levels. It just gets bonus increases as you move past Regent. These range from extra unit support to lower cost and inter AI consideration for trades.

I play Diety occasionally, yeah it's cool and all, but Emperor is much more enjoyable ;) Yes the A.I. cheats, and yes some wonders can be addictive, I always want Magellan's Expedition, not for strategic value, but because it makes ships faster, and I have a navy units force addiction.

For gameplay and enjoyment for a veteran player, I suggest Monarch or Emperor. For a real challenge, go higher, like Demi or Diety.

And getting those "perfect" wonders is a small part of the game. Wonders are a bonus, not critical.

Yes the A.I. cheats,

What cheats are you talking about? Getting 2 settlers at sid instead of one is not cheating, it is part of the game. Having knowledge of the map is a handicap that the AI needs badly.

When you play, you agree to those rules. Cheating is when you do not follow the rules you agreed to use.

So if you know of an AI cheat, please post it. If not please do not tell others it cheats.

This 'advantage' the AI receives can be interpreted many ways. some think it's cheating and others think it makes up for otherwise crippling AI deficiencies.

Going back on topics...

Simple. Put research to zero. Build barracks. Build units. Go to war.

In CIV I, AI could send the first naval vessels across the ocean, which was impossible for human. That's cheating. Getting an advantage is not.
