hey sword, i hadnt seen this thread, but id say it sounds good to me. im glad to see that the battleship doesnt upgrade to the daedalus anymore, that was annoying lol. overall id say it looks good, but between longbow apache and zepplin id put in like "Huey" or something, like vietnam style that would have a bombard and a carry capacity, the latter would be lost of course upon upgrading it.

also, ancient era improvements? id say the ones we have now, but more variety really, def. put in public baths and public gardens, baths could increasehappiness and allow 2nd city size, but requires a resource, maybe marble or hot springs or whatever you want. the gardens would just be a nice happiness/culture booster, but would be expensive to maintain.

i like your future era techtree, it was really good. just go with your storyline of the colonywars and such.

The current plan is to combine the Modern and Industrial Era techtrees and include a new, complete Future Era, with alot more techs then the orginal Far Horizon's future era. The Middle Ages also will be expanded to include the Napolianic Era. Also, I should point out that Tjedge has decided to implement the Tech Tree changes, however, it will be up to me to add the units and tech tree icons themselves.

What is a Huey btw?

Some of the futuristic techs I have written down are:

Arcologies
Ultra Pressure Machinery
Gaia Theory
Ecotopia
Technocracy
Nano-Assembly
Human Cloning
Genetic Tailoring
Unified Physics
Neural Interface
Corporate Republic
Cryonics
Mind Control
Virtual Democracy
Digital Encryption

These are only a few and some might already be in SoG's future era (I wasn't checking  ). I'm still digging for more ideas. This is just what I happened to have. I think Heart of Destiny can get more advanced than this though, so there is room for more.

The Huey is the nickname for the BEll UH-1 Helicopter, commonly used throughout Vietname and up until the 80s or 90's in some National Guard Units.

IIRC it was also the base for the Cobra attack helicopter.

Steel: Thankyou for the Info, did Wyrm or Bebro make one of those? If they did I will add it, maybe with Advanced Flight or something

Tjedge:

Laser Weaponry
Mech Warfare
Advanced Mech Warfare(orginal  )
Space Colonization
Artifical Intelligence

Capital Spaceships

I will add the ones you suggested to this list as well....if anyone has any other ideas..please share, and thankyou very much for your help Tjedge... :goodjob:

I don't know if they did, but I will search in the units forum and let you know.

EDIT: I found one

yeah they did make a huey unit, check in steph's mod, there are a lot, i could send it if you want. also, i think have unified physics as a preq. to weather control!!!!!!! WOO!.

Later I'll give a description of some of those techs and some wonders and such that would go in them so you can have an idea what I'm thinking when I send the tech trees your way. ;)

This looks good. Many of your choices are similar to ones I would make. A few exceptions: I have the cavalry line upgrading to Air Cavalry, Air Gunship, Speedocoptor, and ending with the Star Wars Armored Assault whatever (AAT, I think it is called). I have this converge with the Lancer-Armored Car-Mech Infantry line, which upgraded to the Aliens Armored Transport, then to the AAT.

Mechas are such massively powerful units that I don't have them upgrading from earlier units. I also keep them out of the artillery line. From Radar Artillery I go to a Warhammer-style artillery, then Hover Artillery, then the Star Wars SPA-T. (I hope I'm getting the acronym right).

For the guerilla line, there are some fun options. Personally I like the Lara Croft unit so much that I couldn't keep her out. Guerilla upgrades to Ripley from Aliens (with a new name), who upgrades to Tomb Raider (with a new name), who upgrades to Mara Jade (with a new name). The TOW infantry I have in a separate line: Grenadier to Mortar to Bazooka to TOW Infantry to BeBro's X-com missile-toting unit. I'm putting muffins' WH40K Marine units at the top of my tech tree, and they have a nice missile-firing foot unit.

Be sure to look inside Neomega's Pentagenesis mod for futuristic surface ships. He has 3 or 4 in there including a very sweet missile ship that you would not believe. It's too bad he hasn't released them separately in the unit forums, so more people would know about them. I would also recommend the recently made War Carrier between Aircraft Carrier and the Prometheus.

BeBro's Workbee is a fantastic futuristic worker unit. Just before it you could include the yellow constructor unit found in Pentagenesis, or use Smoking mirror's new worker (created for the Mars mod). I enjoy having advanced workers with 2 movement points, and I give the Workbee 1 mvt with all terrain as roads (fabulous). There are also good settler units out there you might take a look at. The early automobile unit makes a good settler; so does the moving van or freight unit (though they look substandard to me). BeBro has a good settler unit for future era, and so does Smoking mirror.

For the scout line I prefer Scout-Troubadour-Explorer-Adventurer-Balloon-Zeppelin-radar plane (there are WWII and modern versions)-Satellite. If you want to keep them land-based, you could try Adventurer-Jeep-Humvee-Futuristic Trike-WH40K Landspeeder. But I would keep helicopters out of it, they are too fun to attack with, and scouts don't generally have strong attack. My attack helicopters are set up DyP/RAR style, with all terrain as roads and a decent attack. Some people don't go for that, but I really enjoy them.

Wow! Thanks for all of those great suggestions Camber! I actually did some research online about Cavalry and I discovered that Cavalry units became Tank units in the first world war. The same occured with the Lancer regiments, which mostly took over the operation of armored cars. So I decided to upgrade Cavalry to Tanks(WW1, not nearly as powerful as the WW2 Tank that becomes availible with Motorized Transportation), and Lancers to Armored Cars(Good Anti-Infantry units, fast, good for moving in a quick defender, like its descendent, the Mech Infantry).

I too have Copters with the All Terrain as Roads flag checked. I wanted to make them like air units with the ability to go on any terrain(of coarse since they aren't true air units game-wise, they cant go over water though... ). The reason I had the Scout-line become the Helicopter line was because I read online that Zepplins were used as scouts and bombers during the first world war(although after Heidenburg...they ceased being in use.. :( ) So I decided that the Explorer would upgrade to the War Balloon(a Hot-Air balloon created by my buddy Vuldacon), and then to the Zepplin. I have the Apaches as excellilent bombers, as they proved to be during the Yugoslavian campaign against Milosevich. Would Hueys have similiar, but weaker abilities?

In my mind, Mechs would probably replace Tanks eventually as the most powerful land unit. Of coarse, this wouldn't happen overnight, hense Tanks are still in operation until the appearence of the Advanced Mech units. I will look into the infantry you mentioned that should act as future TOW Infantry.

Could you tell me where I could find those other earlier Artillery Infantry? I could use the Mortar as an early artillery infantry. I think I will also follow your recommendations on the Guerilla line. I was thinking of adding a new line, the Sharpshooter(the unsung hero of wars), beginning in the beginning of the Industrial/Modern Age. They would upgrade to Snipers, and then to Laser Snipers(Bebro's XCOM Green Sniper unit), and then, is there an even more advanced unit I could upgrade that to? Also, I had plans to upgrade the Guerilla line. Basically the plan is to have a Partizan come before the Guerilla, with Industrialization. The Guerilla will upgrade to Civarmy's Female Marine, and then to Kinboat's Angel unit, maybe then to BlueO's Hardsuit unit after that..

I will check out those Hoverships.

Yes, that makes good sense. The Huey would be indeed a weaker version of the attack helicopter, but I don't think it would be very good as a scout. But that is up to you. It makes more sense to give a Huey all terrain as roads than a Jeep or Humvee, so that is fine.

Grenadier--I don't recall exactly where I saw one, but I think there may be one in one of Steph's threads. Go to the Unit Forum Directory, and look for Steph's name. I am also pretty sure that Dom Pedro has made a Bazooka and Mortar unit, he has several WWII unit threads. Here is a link to LouLong's Bazooka unit: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69446

@Sword of Gedden - If you want a helicopter to use as a scout I would reccomend the "LOACH", though I don't know if there is a unit made for this.

ok, i like all of these suggestions too so far. for the huey though, same as apache but weaker AND should have a small transport capacity, 1 or 2, so the same tactics could be used as in vietnam, not that anyone would wanna reproduce them lol.

also, as an earlier "sharpshooter" unit, why not have the sapper, which can act like a cruise missile or an artillery piece which would be available with "fortification" or "siege engineering" and have that upgrade to the sniper in the industrial age.

just for fun... why dont you put in some star wars units as ultra late future era stuff? like Camber had said. i mean come on! imagine your tanks eventually upgrade to AT-ATs!!!! WOW!!! and fighters to X-wings. and battleships to star destroyers!!!!!!!!!!!etc. also, if you do put this in, you absolutely must include jedis. they'd be invisible, HN, all terrain as roads, stealth attack on all units and a moderate attack/defense but low HP. just a suggestion... i know its not at all realistic but come on! how fun/cool would it be?!

and sword i have a really different idea that i figured out that i might like to see in this. you know how you can trade away your workers when you bring them into your capital? well i figured out how to change this to other units. so maybe you would like to implement this with a "mercenary" unit that can literall be bought and sold between civs. if your interested ill explain it, but let me know.

overall this sounds/looks really great

King Coltrane: That mercanary idea sounds VERY interesting...You MUST share it.....

With that idea, I could have the various Mercanary using peoples like Nubia, sell out their services to other countries as they did historically. I may sneek one Star Wars unit in there for the Future Era for that purpose...the Bounty Hunter...

I dont think I'll be adding any Star Wars stuff..(except for the above)not because I don't like it(I am a big Star Wars fan and like everything Star Wars except for the New Jedi Order book series...yuck.. ), but because I have a fake "history" which covers the future era, basically it involves the plot from my Colony Wars project(which I hope will one day see the light of day..but first thing is first). I will have Capital Starships and Fighters though.

Camber: I'm going to use Smoking Mirror's excellilent Early Rifleman as the Grenadier(His Flintlock using guy..). While the Helicopters can act as scouts, they have multiple purposes, like in real life. Unless you guys have another idea regarding Scouts..

In Rise of Nations, the Scout eventually upgrades to Commandos and then Special Forces. I know Cavalry proformed a Scouting role in the US Civil War, and orginally I had the Explorer upgrade to Dragoons, but I decided on the Hot Air Balloon instead.

alright sword, its actually quite simple, just seems that no one plays with the editor enough lol...SO, in the general settings tab in the editor, under "Default Units" is "Captured Unit" simply change it from "worker" (the default) to "mercenary" or whatever unit you like. i actually developed this idea when trying to figure out how to make rome "buy" numidian cavalry for the RFRE scenario/mod that is in my signature. unfortunately this idea was never implemented, but ive always liked it a lot more than have a "mercenary" resource or trading workers.

let me know what you think.
