Ive been playing this a lot lately. http://www.longbowgames.com/hegemony/ and if youve purchased the full game{29.99} i believe you get the gold version {out next month} for free.
Its a RTS not turn based but still enjoyable especially if you love this time period.

That looks really neat, I'll check out the demo.

EDIT: This game is pretty awesome though I won't be buying it yet (I have a huge backlog of games already plus college) I'll certainly keep my eye on it. I wonder though how much tere really is to do in the game, I was only able to build one building in cities, walls.
