[DLL] (8-NS) 4UC Carthage - Asamu instead of Tophet

If the component has its own CS value or augments CS values by being in proximity to other units (ie a combat aura) then it goes in 1 slot.
If it doesn't either of those things it goes in the other slot.

Ok, so 1 slot is for a unit that is militaristic directly or by support and for the other slot it doesn't matter if it's a unit. What's the point of the slots restrictions again? Seems arbitrary.

convention. Every civ follows that pattern (except Venice) and we saw no reason to deviate.

I don't think the cost will be big a problem, Carthage is swimming in it even after the UA change. Every new city is potentially another lump sum of gold based on the resources available to it. Rather than viewing it as eliminating the UA, I see it as keeping the settlement-acquisition engine going and letting your cities focus on other construction. Free city connections is massive synergy with Progress and God of Commerce as well.

New cost proposed : 200 + (n - 1) x 100 Cost, with n the number of Cities in the Empire (so 200 for the first, 300 for the second, and so on).

The scaling being much softer means its easier to deal with the cost increase.

I still think that this unit lacks any purpose, why would you intentially decrease Civ's setling capabilities like this, where does this cost come from? Is this a cost of a lighthouse and one citizen? I dont think that it worth it at all, especcially when you can buy only one of these at a time. If you made this purchase optional it would be great, otherwise i dont see the point. This feels like a punishment, especially at the very start when you want to settle your first 2 cities, how you gonna do this with Asamu when it takes so much time to build/buy a worker and then build an improvement to get money from the UA. Pray to god of ruins for free coins? That doesnt sound very appealing.
So yeah, the only possibility to save this proposal is to cut mandatory purchase in my opinion. I dont really know what else can be done, make it able to ignore terrain costs and swim faster maybe? Or grant it some capabilities of a Pioneer and Colonist, like having more initial Population in the city. Or you can make it batte unit, so it would not need a guard to settle safely. Well, thats on you.

I do like the option of building this unit in addition to buying. Buying of course has the advantage to free up your capital's production and prevent pop-loss. The tricky part is to balance the gold cost. Anyway, it's worth trying the buy-only version. If the cost is well balanced, it would make the playstyle more unique.

Edit 2 : Made the Asamu not replace the Settler anymore (for more flexibility). In exchange, it is now unlocked at Pottery with the Settler instead of Agriculture.

@hokath I don't really understand why this proposal is marked DLL : normaly, all the pieces required to put the unit together are already in the tables.

Oh yeah, I forgot how heavy the Suffet was. Sry about that.

Yes, the Suffet makes this, and two of the other proposals, pretty much unsponsorable.

Then we'll need to make other proposals for 4UC without the Suffet.

I know there was talks of just removing the war elephant from general use and make it her UU, that's fairly easy change to implement

See my discord proposals on the matter below

Still requires a lot of backend changes, like swapping the unit AI from general to admiral when embarking and vice versa, and teaching a unit with admiral AI that it can disembark. And then letting the AI know what embarking/disembarking this unit does.

Plus it'll be terribly slow when embarked unlike a normal Great Admiral, while giving it +4 embarked moves would be broken if the player gets any embarked bonus.

Timestamp post to arrange all the threads in a neat order.
